All utilities worked well. Level lot. No phone service past 1 bar so no WiFi service. You can get service once you are 5 -/+ miles from base. Campground is located off base Some interior roads were a bit narrow for our 45 footer. Security rovided by roving cops. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay when visiting Fort Knox families. There were a lot of RV's that look like they have been there a while even though there's a 90 day stay limit. There was continuous artillery fire starting at daybreak, so our dog wasn't happy during our stay. Phone service was iffy at best, no internet at all. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of things to do in a radius of the area. Elizabethtown has a great amount of shopping and restaurants. Only 35 miles to Louisville.

Nice campground for stop over. Lots of low hanging branches, but grass is kept cut and trimming done atound utilities. Borderline park on full timers. Lots of "stuff" around travel trailers and some 5th wheels. We will return as we have good friends in the area. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

This is a peaceful, quiet campground located not far from the main Ft Knox base. Grounds and bathhouse were beautifully and meticulously maintained. There is a lovely hiking trail to the nearby lake where one can fish as well. There appeared to be many long-term campers, with semi-permanent fixtures, but no visible sign of occupancy. Such "homesteaders" make it difficult for those who simply wish to visit the area for a few days. The free WiFi was poor at best, and there was NO AT&T wireless coverage, which we understand is not the campground's fault. In our situation, we expect to be connected 24x7, so were grateful when we moved out of the gully after four days. Considering the wireless and Internet situation, we will likely not stay here again. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Camp Carlson has really gone down hill, thanks to it's management. Bed bugs in cabins, broken glass on hillsides, poison ivy growing in RV spots, feral cats, less than dial-up internet (if it even works), camp hosts that 'homestead' and are never rotated out, trash all around lake, drug deals that take place at the bottom of the creek, dog pen infested with hook-worms, limited vehicle parking. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

A great camping spot for military eligible folks! There's a stocked fishing lake a short walk away too. I didn't see any boats or a boat ramp. As others mentioned, wifi & phone service are real spotty. We mostly had 1 bar or no service with ATT and Verizon was about 2 bars at best. Many of the 50Amp sites are good for satellite but most of the 30Amp sites are deep in the trees. You can only reserve the 30Amp W/E only sites but you can take a 50Amp full hookup if available when you get there. They still require you to give them your Social Security number when checking in which really irritates me. The Army is so slow moving into the 21st century! We had a long pull thru full hookup which was nicely spaced from our neighbors and easy in/out. Three sites were fully paved and the rest are gravel. Most sites are big rig suitable too. Trees needed trimming going into the 30Amp W/E area but those sites would take any size rig too. There's a camp host for after hours support. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here six nights and will stay here again. Only down side (some will say up side) is there is no cell service at all and the internet service is very iffy and slow when it does work. Were able to get a few cable channels; don't know about sat TV. The laundry and restroom/shower facilities were the best we have seen anywhere. The sites are large and clean. There is a creek and a lake on site and fishing available if you have a permit. Staff was very helpful. Campground is not on Ft Knox but is military only. About six miles to the Fort and 20 to Elizabethtown. We also went to Bardstown and Glendale; scenic areas especially with the fall colors. There are also a number of distilleries within reasonable driving distance. Would be a 10+ if our phones worked. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a wonderful campground. Most of the spaces here are gravel but there are a few cement pad spots also. All very level. Staff and camp hosts very friendly and helpful. There is a small lake at the back of the park for fishing. No swimming is allowed in the lake. Easy access into the park and big rig friendly. The restrooms and laundry room are modern and very, very clean. There is also a room in the facility for meetings, dining, etc. that has a refrigerator, TV and book/movie exchange. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Well maintained. Not all sites are 50 amp. Majority are 30 amp with water only. We had no problem getting full 50 amp with sewer connection. A good number of sites are taken by resident full-timers. No reservations taken...first come, first serve. Some sites close to the state highway bridge with noise, but most are quite and shaded. Great library share room for books and movies. Laundry and restrooms convenient and maintained. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is not on the Fort Knox military post, but it isn't far away. This was my second stay at this CG. The last was a few years ago. Wi-Fi still iffy depending on how far from the office and how many RVs are between you and there. You can sit in the rec building and use a laptop if you need strong Wi-Fi. Cell service is also sketchy. I had to go outside the RV to get one bar. Utilities were good. There is a mixture of concrete and gravel sites. Most are level. Not all of them will allow for satellite reception due to trees. The rec building is nice, is in the middle of the park, and contains laundry, satellite TV, and a book/movie sharing library. I think laundry was a buck per load. There is a stocked lake next to the park. The staff was friendly and helpful. Only the W/E sites are reservable. They offer a discount for Golden Age/Access card holders which I used. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Rate fluctuated because we were on water/electric for a few days, then moved to a full hookup site. We signed up on the waiting list and then declined our first option so we could get a campsite where we also could get satellite TV. We would camp here again and were satisfied with the campground. Some improvements - lots of grass, - well maintained and mowed, - new pavement, - new bathhouse, - laundry has plenty of washers and dryers ($1 each load), - a few new concrete pads, - nice welcoming office area and personnel, - great hiking areas, - nice pond/lake (no boats), - campfires and free wood (which you can collect) Some drawbacks: - no AT&T phone service, - some trees will not allow satellite TV, - one commode in the washroom. We have to drive 3-4 miles to the highway to get phone service or send text messages. But it is manageable. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

We found this military park to be very friendly and well maintained. We had good cell/Internet reception with Verizon and our MIFI card. The only downside is TV reception. Our antenna did not pick up any stations although I saw other rigs with antennas up. We would definitely stay here again.
