This is a beautiful state park located in Eastern KY near Prestonsburg. The campground is just a small part of large, 2,900 acre reserve. The campground is clean and well-maintained. We were here over Memorial Day weekend, one of their busiest, and the grounds stayed in pretty good shape. All sites have electric (50/30/20 amp) and water but only B and C loops have sewer. Sites are generally well-spaced and we didn't feel like we were right on top of our neighbors. Cell service in this area is poor. We have AT&T and found it spotty and weak on B and C loops and non-existent on A loop. We could usually send and receive EMails and texts while on B loop but often could not make a call. Other campers reported Verizon service was poor too. We did not use the bathhouses. There are 3 loops, A, B, and C. "A" loop is flat with level sites while B and C loops are located on pretty steep hills. A few of the B and C loop sites are level but most are not. B059, for example where we were originally assigned, was too steep for us to level our 45' motorhome. I think smaller RV's could use sites like this but larger rigs cannot. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. They worked with us to move to B039, which is much more level, despite the park being sold out for the holiday weekend. We were here for a family reunion and would probably stay here again in the future as long as we could get a site that can handle our MH. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed here twice in the last month. Sites in Loop A are more level than Loop B & C. Loop B & C are FHU. Bring extra water hose because water is shared between sites which put hydrant on opposite side of RV. Bath house was clean but dated. No shower curtain between shower and changing area made it difficult keeping clothes and towel dry. Camp store has ice, firewood and beer. Activities for kids and adults on the weekend. AT&T service would come and go, mostly go. Staff and camp host friendly and helpful. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Motorhome.

After reading other reviews of this park we decided to use our tow vehicle to check out the drive to the park and the sites, to validate what others have said about the difficulties they had in getting to the park and finding an adequate site for a large motorhome. We found the drive into the park no more daunting than getting to Yosemite, or driving through the Rockies, for our 45' motorhome. Most of the sites in the park are rather short, and most aren't too level. Others suggested staying out of loops B & C but we found site C80 was the most level, long enough, and would allow us a sat signal on our front mount dish. This site also was a full hookup. The park is clean, quiet, and scenic, and the staff extremely friendly. What else could you ask for? The staff also scheduled a full weekend of activities for guests, from fishing to hatchet throwing. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take time to hike around in the park and go fishing in the lake. We also set aside time to visit the Hatfield & McCoy feud site in Pikeville, and made the drive to the town of Paintsville, as well as take some shots at throwing hatchets in the park. The lake here is also a great place for kayaking.

Do Not take the Jenny Wiley state park route first mentioned, but come in from the east entrance. We stayed in the A section with a nice curved pull-thru for six days. Campground is well treed and basically level lots. WiFi was not at the site, but was available up near the office. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park. If you have a big rig avoid loops B and C as there is a tight turnaround (I almost didn't make it). Stayed in one of the pull-through sites which was sort of curved, but decent. Nice trees in the area. If I came back, I'd select one of the back-in sites, they are much nicer. Corn Hole and Line Dancing is the name of the game here up until around 10:00 PM. After that it was pretty quiet. When arrived, do not follow the signs in Prestonsburg to Jenny Wiley as that will take you in the humongous loop that you'll wonder what in the world you were thinking going this way. Go East young man and come right in the back door, it's much shorter. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A great park to stay in. Loop B has nicer sites space wise; loop C has some sewer hook ups; loop A is tight but has the pull through sites in it. Take the east entrance to park to avoid having to circle the entire lake with steep hills & heavy curves. Lake itself has about 50 pull off areas to make your way down to the lake to either fish or swim. Marina has a few pontoon boats for rent reasonably priced. The community pool has been closed for a long time; what a shame because with some investment could be really nice. They have a bunch of activities for the kids; they take their line dancing & corn hole VERY seriously here. Park seems to settle down pretty quickly after 10. Will be back mid summer. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: February, 2007 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This camp ground is very crowded, the sites are very close together. We barely had enough room to open our awning and slide out. The water and electric hookups were on the wrong side of the site. We had to go out and purchase additional hoses and cords just hookup. The bath houses were nasty. However they do have activities for the children. They only have one very small playground that only has swings and basketball court. They have a small store on site, which closed very early. We haven't stay there since then and don't plan on returning in the future. We camped at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in a Fifth Wheel.
