Good place to wreck your rig! The hill down into the campground is around 25%. Since not possible to make the turns to get up to the dump station, and our worry that the tanks might overflow going up that grade, we purchased a towable dump tank for $150 and dragged up that hill to the dump by hand ... 4 times. So that is a negative. Also, site 17 was "gravel" as are others, but in this context "gravel" means several inches of gravel. There is a BIG difference trying to get traction on a gravel site versus a pile of gravel site. If you have 4 wheel drive, likely no problem. Unless you've never seen a river or a lake, the view at best is so-so. Also, the CG is slowly being washed away as several sites that were once nearest the water are now closed or caved in. Max length should be about 22 feet, not 30. We watched a licensed trucker make the turn and came within 3 inches of his 5th wheel falling into the DEEP drains. Somerset is nice town. All shopping types close by. Catholic church was wonderful. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Finding the campground is complicated by the fact that the address given on RV Trip Wizard, 500 Waitsboro Dr. is wrong. Waitsboro Dr. is a road at the top of the bluff lined with a mix of McMansions and vacant lots. The correct address is Waitsboro Rd. We followed the Google directions provided by RVTW and turned from State Hwy 2301 onto Waitsboro Dr. then turned around and came back out (Fortunately, some of the houses have circular drives). Coming from the S on US-27, there is no sign that indicates that State Hwy. 2301 is Waitsboro Rd. and we spent some time trying to find the campground. Finally spotted a Waitsboro Rd. and COE sign on US-27 as we came from the N and went past the Dr. and down the hill to the campground. We had site 22, up on the hill near the showers. Nice campground, sandwiched in between the bluffs and the lake. Mostly unoccupied in early September. Primarily caters to boaters and fishermen. The shore is rocky and muddy, but the DB National Forest nearby offers lots of hiking opportunities and woods full of chiggers. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Very steep incline/decline to enter and exit campground. The roads throughout are ridiculous. Can't get to the dump station due to incline and sharp turn. I had to keep getting out of the truck to decipher where to go since the sites and road were all discombobulated. Can't really walk or ride bikes due to hills. Very small campground. There is a very steep boat ramp right outside entrance. Other than that there really isn't anything to do at this campground. Nice views of the lake. Site was little tricky. Level, gravel, plenty of room. No shade. Bathroom/shower was a hike up a hill. Not too clean. Brown water. Campground host was VERY friendly. Came by several times to see if we needed anything. No store, no wood for sale. There is shopping and restaurants close by. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Drove over to Cumberland Falls State park. It was very nice. Nice hiking. The campground there is in very poor condition. Definitely not like any state park I've ever seen.

Two night stay. Sites are very narrow and often very steep drives and sharp drop offs to get to the site.I travel with a teardrop camper and was concerned with the steepness. At one point I could not clearly see the drop in the road from the top as it was so steep. I literally crept down that narrow road at 5 mph. Bathroom was up 20 stairsteps from the road, very rustic and old. Water was brown coming out but cleared after you ran it for about 10 minutes. Only one shower house with a very steep climb to get to it. If you have to walk expect a good cardio workout. Camp host checked in several times and was nice. Nice views of the lake. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Nice campground. Very quiet, no playground. Has beautiful views of Lake Cumberland from every site, but no access except boat ramp (no swimming) and stairs at far end of campground. Water up, lots of trees and trash floating by shore, but some families swam off the steps anyway. Really good swimming spot not far at Pulaski County Park. Basically in downtown Somerset, great location. But, really steep hill to get to it, and if you meet someone else towing, narrow road. Would not go back just because of the hill and lack of good access to water for swimming. I have a 16 year old, 30 ft class A, and was not comfortable with the hill. One weird thing, the water and electric are at what I would consider the front of the site, in this instance, on the lake side. So, if I had backed in as expected, my door and awning would have faced the road, not the nice view. So I pulled in forward and used extensions. Believe most of the sites are like that. The dump is at the top of another steep hill. By the time you are at the dump, your vehicle is headed back downhill. I dumped at General Butler State Park, not far from there. $3, and totally flat. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Motorhome.

McDonalds on 27 has the best wifi. Can even get it in the parking lot. No plugs at tables inside, though.

Mostly lakefront, but not lake access sites. You gotta drive to a loop at the end of campground and turn around back towards gate in order to back into site. Sites mostly level. Dump station is the cockeyedest set up I ever seen. It's up a short steep hill which can only be approached from outside the gate. Most units must be parked slightly down hill in order to dump. Fairly decent CG once you get past the traffic flow and dump station set up. I would not recommend it for long trailers or 5th wheels. We in a 30-footer and it was near maximum turning length for the roads. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

There is a very steep, windy hill to go down to the campground. Be careful of boats coming up and the reverse on exiting. Most sites have at least a view of the lake. All sites are gravel with a fire ring and water and electric only. Some sites are up a steep hill by the shower house. This is also where the dump station is located. Large campers cannot get up the hill. The showers are old with timed water but clean. A button has to be pushed frequently to get the water to flow. Some visitors are very inconsiderate and leave their cars and boats on the road with little room for campers to get through to their spots. The host and volunteers are very nice. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

If you are in a small camper or tent, this park will be OK . It's not for big rigs. We were not able to stay here because the turns were too tight and spots too small . The host was nice and called another campground on the lake; and we were able to get in. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Lovely Corps of Engineers campground. It is a small campground but you have all the lovely features of a Corps park - waterfront, large spacious sites and great rates. We are able to use our Senior Pass therefore the rate is half price. Our site was gravel, almost level and was lake front. The host came around to check on us and gave us our information. Very friendly and helpful. Our Verizon cell phone had good reception but no TV reception from either satellite or antennae. That is OK because we would rather enjoy the lovely trees. The signage on US 27 is very small and we missed it the first time so be very cautious. The entrance hill is very steep but not long in length. The interior road is one way and can be a little tricky at the end to make the turn but it is doable with our 39' motorhome. We are always thankful to be able to find a Corp park along our travel route. We would come back here if we were in the area. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Big rig owners beware. Very difficult interior road was 1 way in and out. Turn around at the end of the interior road couldn't be made by our 45 foot motorhome. We had to back up a long way to reach our site. Signage on US 27 is non-existant. Car show held in nearby downtown Somerset during various days of the summer is terrific. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Motorhome.
