10 Parks near Sparta, Kentucky
Jul 2016 - $30.00
Stayed here as an over night stop an a recent trip. Only had electric hookup. Dump station and water available. Deep, wet grass. Area needed mowing real bad. When I made my reservations I was quoted $30, but when I arrived I found that since it was race weekend, the rate was $75. They finally accepted the $30 rate I was quoted.
The camp sites are basically electric hook ups in a cow pasture. I had to use 4wheel drive on my truck when pulling out the next morning because my tires were spinning on the wet grass. - arkansasmel
Jul 2015 - $30.00
This is basically a cow pasture turned into a campground. If you have a large RV it is not the place to stay. Also it is right across the street from the main railroad between Louisville and Cincinnati. Trains run all night and there is a crossing there so they blow the whistle 3 times. No sleep! There is only electric at each site so IMO it is overpriced. Sites are all tall grass, so pray it doesn't rain or you're stuck. Will not stay again, will boondock before staying there. - Ljbtn
May 2015 - $30.00
Sparta Campground! Our 2nd time back! The owners are two of the loveliest people we have met in our lifetime! We stayed on Snob Knob (due to a little oversight on the owner's part). It was a quick switch to a different site & we had a wonderful couple nights with electric & water hook-ups! The train is loud and can wake you up, that is for sure (but it is dark & quiet down in that valley at night, otherwise). The property that the campground is situated on is an old tobacco farm & in MY opinion, it is simply gorgeous!! The hills that roll up around the campsites are covered with tall trees & it is the country AT its BEST!! We loved this short trip to Kentucky & our black lab had another fun time! Thanks again to the owners & their gracious southern hospitality! - patti&charlie
Sep 2016 - $40.00
Large RV park. Arrived after dark. Paperwork to site left at office. Hardly anyone there when I visited in early September. Nice concrete pad. Very good wifi. Nice bike/walk path attached to site. Would return if on my way through this area, not a destination park for me, for others a nearby casino may be an attraction. - RVStudent
Aug 2016 - $38.00
Although the park does not contain a lot of trees it has a pool, playground, bike trail, and fishing pond. It is clean neat and has easy access...and great Wi-Fi! - Jimjul
Jul 2016 - $35.00
The campground seems brand-new but is actually 9 years old. It was obviously designed for big-rigs, and by someone who knows something about RVers needs:
1-concrete, level pads
2-paved and wide interior roads (2 lanes wide)
3-each site has a wide apron, with paved strip up to the pad
4-sites are well-spaced, better-than-average at least
5-full hookups, good utilities, with cable
6-adequate WiFi strength/speed
7-clean shower houses/bathrooms
It is not on the river itself, but across Highway 156, which is the road that runs along the Ohio river. There is a "fishing" pond in the middle, which is just a large puddle-like a retention pond. It's catch and release only, and I did see some people catching small fish. There is a playground, with a large bouncing balloon. There is an excellent ½ mile paved trail around the wooded along the west boundary - one of the better ones I've seen at any campground. A major casino is just up the road.
The only negatives (minor) are :
1-most of the sites are in an open clearing, with the parking lot feel of an open field. If you want some trees there is one row along the back where the sites back up to the woods.
2-Cable TV has limited channels. - Jim n Lynn
Nov 2010 - $25.00
This park is about 15 miles off of I-71. It is on a winding dangerous one lane country road with many sharp twists and turns. A truly nerve racking drive after several hours on the highway. When we arrived at 6 PM there was no one around. Some sites were closed down for the winter. We had to search for one with water. Store/reception run down. The nicest thing about this campground was the signs directing to the park. Once there it was down hill fast. I would never stay here again. - murph164
Jul 2016 - $35.00
This was an overnight stop for us and this appears to be a very popular campground with a mix of tents and RVers and lots of kids. Looks like that it is big rig friendly depending on the site. Utilities were fine but the bath house was old and needed much more attention due to the high volume of users. Had 2 bars of Verizon LTE at our site but only 3G at the campground entrance. Campground hosts were very friendly and attentive. Public roads to the campground are pretty narrow. Do not take Exit 171 off I-75 because some of the roads are extremely narrow for our dually truck. Campground had a very popular pool and miniature golf. I liked this place better than my spouse and we probably would not stay here again. SWe stayed in a motorcycle tent trailer. - roadking
Jun 2016 - $20.00
we enjoyed our stay at big bone lick , with about 60 sites it is a quiet out-of-the-way camphround, but still minutes away from the Florence Kentucky area with shops, a mall, restaurants galore. It appeared that the majority of the sites are a bit unlevel but not so much that it could not be corrected. Electric and water were an easy reach . Campground does have a pool and two large playgrounds, The bison herd was interesting but the park museum is small. We enjoyed our stay . - depguy
Oct 2015 - $25.00
Very nice campground. Sites were a little short for our 31 foot trailer (had to park the suburban next to camper to stay off the road). Showers were clean but old looking. - Yjmoose
Aug 2015 - $27.00
Not sure why all the good comments on this park????... First of all if they did not list it as a resort and did not list it as big rig friendly I would not have stopped here. For a State park it is ok but do not say it is a resort. First of all it is very tight to get around in. I had a very hard time getting my 36' 5th wheel turned around at the end of the full hook up loop. The sites are also very short and many are hard to get into with a larger RV. Now once you are in the water hook up is a long way off, so make sure you have lots of hose. I have a 75' and a 50' hose and used all of it. This is the case for a lot of the sites. Also they have a sign saying if there is a yellow tag on the post the site is reserved. Almost all the sites had yellow tags??? We were there Tuesday night ....the yellow tags were for the weekend??????? Now lets discuss the copperhead problem. Evidently it is severe enough they have a sign up advising you to not go out at night with out lights to the point they will loan you a flashlight if you don't have one????????? I'm not sure if this is the reason the shower houses were closed or not. - steelpony
May 2015 - $27.00
Came to stay for one night. Everything we read said this state park had big rig access; not so. I even verified that this was true when I called. We travel in a 40' with a toad and we had to unhook to get around a turn and we now have a nice crunch on one side of the rig.
The park itself is nice enough, mostly quiet (some traffic noise) but we won't return because of the access issues. - Marti & Roger
Apr 2014 - $28.00
Stayed for an over-nighter. Campground is close to a main highway. Noisy. Otherwise, average state park. Jungle-gym and swings for the kiddies. - Boondockdad
Aug 2016 - $20.00
This park is good for an over night stop along the Interstate. There are 5 pull through sites up near the office that are level with crushed stone. Utilities were adequate with 20, 30 and 50 amp service. These are full hookup sites. Ours, however, had a sewer problem so it couldn't be used. The manager said they will be making repairs. I was on site 5 so if that's a problem you might want to avoid it. I was informed when I called them about the situation. It was the only vacancy they had at the time. The price was right so I took it. There are camper sites on a lower level. These look like extended stay sites. I am not certain how many sites are available on a daily basis so call ahead.
We used the laundry. The machines were clean and in good operating condition. The premises were clean. A wash or a dry was $1.25.
The park has new owners. It is apparent they are making improvements. They seem to be very competent and attentive to your needs. I would stay again. - petendoll
Jul 2016 - $25.00
The park is under new ownership and the lady that manages the park is very nice and was very helpful as was the people that worked with her. The park was full when I called for a site but she was able to work me in. I had full hook ups and everything worked fine. I would stay at this campground again if in the area. - Ralph EL
Apr 2015 - $35.00
I had found prices of $20.00 to $25.00 while searching on line yet when I got there it was $35.00 and $31.50 if you pay cash. After pulling in late I just paid the $31.50. I didn't expect it to be quiet because it can't get any closer to I-75 but the price killed me. Don't even bother typing in the number code for the WiFi it's the worst WiFi I have ever had in and RV park.
Mud and pipes laying around close to our awning side from some old work that had been done. Part of the lawn was mowed but the dog run area wasn't. - travelon
Sep 2016 - $35.00
Located between Interstate 75 and a busy railroad this campground was previously a KOA. South of Cincinnati about 20 miles. Closest attraction is the Ark. Train goes by about every hour and the traffic on the interstate is noticeable. No cable but the antenna picked up a lot of channels. - Bburgbrewer
Sep 2016 - $29.00
Very nice park, gravel roads, gravel spaces, most were very level. They have a beautiful laundry room with 5 washers, 3 dryers. There is a pond for catch and release fishing. There is a pool, playground and basketball court for the kids. It is a friendly quiet park with very nice owners/managers. The only downside was the noise from the highway on one side and trains on the other side. Lots of trains. In all the campgrounds we have been in, this was the worst for traffic and train noise. - esta34950
Aug 2016 - $29.00
We were very happy with this campground. It had a very park like small feel. Price was great. 15 min ride to The Arc Encounter. Owners were very nice and it was clean. It was near a highway so you cant help but to hear it. But if your looking for a clean reasonable play to stay in this area here it is. Has pool but we did not use.Free wifi. - Ed D
Aug 2016 - $34.00
Great little park. We were there 2 nights in August 2016. There are 33 spots, all concrete and level. There were only 4 other campers there when we were.
There is no cable TV, and the Wi-Fi is almost nothing, very iffy.
Short walk down to the rivers, and nice county town. Great barge watching on the Ohio River.
Most all are pull-thru, but we choose a back end that backed up to the Kentucky River. - archbarb
May 2016 - $36.00
The service at this CG wasn't bad, there just wasn't any - we arrived after 5 pm and checked in using a self-pay honor system. Most of the people at this small CG were locals enjoying a spring weekend with family/kids. This is a fine overnight stop. The CG seems to be a local amenity offered by the county and is fairly basic although very clean. All the hook-ups worked fine. No cable or wi-fi. - virginianola
Oct 2015 - $32.00
What a beautiful park! Paved roads, spacious concrete pads, concrete patios with picnic tables. The only negative is the difficulty making reservations. The phone number given rings into the city building and is not answered after 4:30 p.m. We had to find a place to stop, hook up our wi-fi hot spot (we don't use a smartphone), and make reservations on our laptop computer - not the most convenient situation. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is absolutely no TV reception. There are very few campgrounds in the area between Louisville and Cincinnati so we would definitely stay here again - just make sure we call in before they close for the day. - SandyA
Jul 2016 - $16.00
I wasn't expecting to like this park as much as I did. The owners were very nice and the pool was clean. This is an older park, but I found it to be very organized and easy to get around despite some narrow roads. We enjoyed our stay. There were a lot of commercial businesses nearly, but overall it as no noisier than most campgrounds. We would definitely stay here again. Easy on and off the Highway. - Ginny H
Jul 2016 - $27.00
Pretty trashy place. No sewer. The cable didn't work and they said too bad. I can't believe anyone gave this place a positive review. - RHNeal
Jun 2016 - $28.00
Would give you the pros and cons but have little to say as for pros. As for cons, I'll start with quiet hour starts at 11:00 and it is LOUD til the last minute. The sites are dirty grey crushed rock that tracks white if there is the least amount of dew/moisture on the ground. Bath/shower are smaller than a closet and if ya don't mind large spiders/ants/other crawlers...there is hot water. I believe we were but one of two motorhome in the entire park. I guess that should have told me something from the beginning. But then, we were very tired and looking for a quiet nite (?) along the creek. If your needing the same...keep on movin cause this sure isn't it. I'm going to be very generous giving this campground a 3. - Sweatlife
Jul 2016 - $43.00
We came in without a reservation and were fortunate to get a site for one night on July 4 weekend! Our spot was a large back-in on the Ohio River and it was nice and level with all the hookups nearby. There was no WiFi or cable but we didn't mind that at all. We did need their maintenance man to check the power pedestal as the 30 Amp plug showed signs of burning/arcing. Everything checked out OK and we enjoyed our night listening to kids playing, folks talking and singing around campfires, and watching stars and the satellites in the sky. - KC8RXQ
Nov 2015 - $43.00
Pluses: Lots of Halloween activities for the kids, nice clubhouse, and firewood delivery right to your campsite. Outer loop spots are decently spaced but inner loop look hit-or-miss.
Minuses: Roads are in terrible condition - doesn't look like they have put fresh gravel down in a year so the potholes stayed a muddy mess even when it didn't rain. WiFi was useless - it was crowded, but we couldn't log on even once the two days we were there. Playground is small. - selmore
Sep 2015 - $17.00
It was pouring rain the entire time we at the park so we didn't really get a chance to do much or even take advantage of the area. We chose to stay on the upper level which we later found was somewhat of a mistake as the sites all have really bushy trees with lots of low hanging branches. We found out later that the sites on the lower portion by the river don't have that problem. From the little bit we could see through the rain, it appeared to be a nice park with lots of family activities. It is also near 2 casinos, one of which will come to the park, pick you up and return you for free. We were so tired and wet we just opted to stay in for the night. It was rather far from the road, but the drive was easy and had it been sunny probably rather scenic. The site was FHU and very level and long. We hope to go back when the weather is better. - LovinFT
