The newest park in the Louisiana system, Palmetto State Park is about as good as it gets. I think everyone of it's sites back up to a canopy of tropical vegetation. Nice separation between sites. Two very clean bathrooms with FREE laundry facilities. Abundant wildlife in park. We saw deer, hogs, raccoons, armadillos, and rabbits. Very quiet during the week. Nice biking throughout the park. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This state park is one of our favorites. It is a relatively new park that has level, spacious, shaded sites that are somewhat private because of the vegetation that is left to grow between them. The bath houses are always clean, as is the park in general. Kids will love the large splash pad, while the whole family will have fun canoeing the trails through the swamp areas to the Vermillion River. There are several nature trails that pass by three ponds that are excellent fishing holes. Bring your bikes to ride several miles of paved roadways.

The only reason that it doesn't get a 10 is because there is no sewer connection. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very clean park. Vegetation between sites. Remote park in beautiful rural area. Nearest state park to New Iberia and Avery Island both of which offer interesting sightseeing. Black bear plentiful in park. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This is close to my perfect campground. Beautiful grounds, lots of space between most of the sites, electric & water for only $18, AND FREE LAUNDRY FACILITIES. Eight months on the road and I've NEVER seen THAT! And the restroom & laundry facilities are all perfectly clean and modern and the showers are about as good as you get. There are nature trails, ponds, and a canoe/kayak trail and it's convenient to everything in south central Louisiana. There are lots of bugs, but, hey, it's LOUISIANA. You're in the swamp...stock up on the bug spray. The only think I'd ding it for is that it's apparently a big weekend party camp. Midweek was wonderfully serene. Friday night, well, not so much. And everyone around here seems to haul a golf cart with them to cruise around the camp in circles checking out the different parties. Seems to be a "thing" around here that we haven't experienced until we got to Louisiana. So, if you want peace & quiet, I'd advise coming during the week. There is even wi-fi, not the best, but works at least some of the time. It's something, though, and not something I expect in state campgrounds. And the best I got on Verizon was two bars. We are already planning on coming back. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Truck Camper.

Park is well off the beaten path, lots of shade trees , spacious and laid out pretty good. The road in was pretty rough but the park is pretty nice. Abbeville is about 15 miles , no cable and no full hookups but otherwise no complaints. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I agree with prior reviews. Lots of trees but our satellite worked fine. Our Verizon phone on hot spot were fine. And the big surprise in a world of iffy wifi, was that the campground wifi was excellent, at least at site 66. Next time we will try for 65 to get a little more afternoon shade. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a beautiful park! Most of the sites were large and private with palmettos and other low-to-medium height plants between sites. A few had no shade, but most were pretty shady. There are lots of places to walk and ride a bike. The fishing must be good as there were a lot of boats around. The dump station has 2 dumps in an island with access from either direction. This makes dumping go a lot faster, especially on a Sunday when so many campers are leaving at the same time. Laundry facilities are free and even have a screened porch to wait in. Our RV is 31' long. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Motorhome.

A very nice park. Nicely separated campsites, good privacy. The park was clean, staff and camp hosts friendly & helpful. Free WiFi. Hiking/walking trails. Splash pad in summer. Free laundry machines, two washers dryers in each bathhouse. Yes, the park is in the swamp. This is a state park, not an RV park in the city. The swamp makes it interesting and different. The park's website does not try to hide the fact it is in a swamp. We would return if in the area. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Motorhome.

A real jewel of a State park. Well situated for touring this part of Acadiana or just to hang out in the campground. Many opportunities to canoe/kayak from the boat launch. The sites are very private and spacious. The camp hosts were very diligent with their duties and the park shined as a result. I highly recommend the sites in the end loops (64, 65, 66 & 67) for the most privacy. We will definitely be back! We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

In our humble opinion we thought it was a HORRIBLE! You are literally IN the swamps - not BY them - IN them with mosquitoes - dirt roads - dust probably snakes and alligators - we didn't go out to see. Out rv'ing friends (6 couples in all) were staying at another park nearby and 11 of us went to see if this is somewhere we can visit in the future... EVERYONE said NO WAY !!!!! Way out of the way - filthy - did I say hot, mosquitoes, horrible ?!?!? I would say half the sites were out of commission due to having electrical work done on them, so they were off limits, but most seemed to have concrete pads only - everything else was dirt and presume mud when it rains or floods. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of the newest state parks in Louisiana and it is not even on many maps. At this time, the campground is closed until July 1 to work on electric problems at some of the sites. If you have a reservation they are still honoring them but your sites might be changed and you cannot have any extensions. We had a one night reservation and we were glad that we did. Beautiful park with Palmetto’s all over. Campsites are private, big, picnic tables on a cement slab, campfire pit and all sites have water and electric. The bath house was clean, clean and clean. Laundry at this time was free. One can bike ride, bird watch, rent boats, hike, fish, visit the interpretive center, rent cottages, and view wildlife. It is really pretty. You can rent a canoe and paddle between ponds on a canoe trail. It cost us $22 for the night. It is just outside Abbeville where there is shopping, restaurants like Shucks (best for seafood) and gas stations. On the drive down to the campground you can see rice paddies. We would definitely return! We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This place is about 6 miles outside Abbeville. It currently had gravel roads and sites. The road is suppose to be paved this month. They have a pretty fast Wi-Fi but Verizon Mi-Fi works well, too. The showers are an A+. They have screened in porches on the rest room and there are two free washer and driers located there too. They automatically tack on a $6 booking fee to each block of time stay. They have a few trails around the park, a nice canoe route through a couple of lakes and canals that eventually lead to the Vermillion River. This is a nice quiet park that I'd stay at again in a heart beat. It should be noted that about 10-15% of their sites were not available due to apparent electrical issues. Our power was good but they had some strange breaker arrangements. They had 120 amp, 50 amp, 30 amp and 20 amp breaker set up. You had to have the 120 on for any of the others to work. But a check of the hook up revealed no problems. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Wow! What a find. Opened in 2010, this CG is well laid out with ample room between sites. Nice trails and a great central location for visiting Cajun, LA. Free laundry!! Excellent Wi-Fi signal but state has put limits on streaming, downloads, and content. Very impressed with this park. Great place to bike--no hills! Would stay here again in a flash. Would rate it 12 if I could. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
