This is a lovely state park, but unfortunately the campground maintenance has been neglected far too long. There are two sections to the campground. Section 1 has longer sites created by combining two older sites to create a single longer pull through. The sites are poorly configured. Site 1, our site, was at the end of a loop turn and directly in front of the dump station. This left vehicles coming and going from the dump site and our picnic table within 6 feet of our rig both on one side and behind. The sewer connection was in the driveway and buried under mud. In addition, the site was dirty, muddy and not level. The bath house was shut down "for repairs" and a temporary bathhouse was there, but was in sad shape from age and lack of maintenance. Campground 2 was in somewhat better shape, but is unsuitable for longer rigs. Their bath house did appear to be functional and the roadways in the campground are better maintained. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Most showers were out of order as were the laundry facilities. Sites covered with tree debris, faucet handles broken, parking pads crumbling. Overall, the campground is just badly maintained. The park itself is nice, just run down. Okay for a night or 2 for the price. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The park itself is nice, with access to the river for kayaking and nice picnic areas. However, the campground loop where we were was a very different story. We were there over Thanksgiving and every site was taken. The site just to our right was so close that their campfire ring was about 5 feet from our living room slide. Their trailer was uncomfortably close to our RV. We could easily hear their TV. There was a really bad bump in the RV pad at our site that made parking and leveling a challenge, to say the least. The men's bathroom was being redone, so a weird arrangement had everyone using the women's side of the bathhouse: Men on even hours and women on odd hours. We didn't dare use it for fear that somebody of the other gender would come in by mistake or "on purpose by mistake." Laundry facility was dirty, with trash overflowing from the large trash can. It was never emptied during our 4 day stay. Only one washer and one dryer worked. Our takeaway for this park: 1) Many of the campsites are much too close together - they simply crammed too many sites into the loop, 2) campground is run down and not kept up, 3) No hosts. We will not return, even for an overnight. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice setting but terribly run down. Showers and restrooms are terrible: need a lot of work done. Laundry room has 1/3 of the washers and dryers out of order and is cleaned once a week: yep it was disgusting. Lots are fine.

Lot spacing was spacious with some shade. Site surface was dirt, featuring a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in campground 1. The roads were full of potholes and sites did not have enough gravel so some sites were very muddy. Roads in campground were not marked and very confusing. Camping area needs to be updated. Power and water Pedestal and sewer location required extra lengths of hose and electric cable to reach which was inconvenient. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

We were in a Premium site in campground 1. That meant we got a 3" steel pipe to dump in. Internet never worked while we were here. Gravel site. the restrooms were in a portable building with 4 individual rooms. 2 were locked so they wouldn't have so many to clean if they ever decided to clean. White showers were scummy brown 3/4 of the way up and the shower floors were actually black with mold. Both of the ones I saw were were filthy. There is a sign by one of the bathrooms that said because of state budget cuts they could not provide trash pickup anywhere near the campsites. We were in Tickfaw State Park and Fountainbleau State Park before we came here and they were beautiful parks with trash bins handy for all the campers. We were really disappointed after being in those nice parks. Won't be back. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

Good park to stop when traveling along I10 through Louisiana. The road going into the park is narrow with no shoulder. We wouldn't have wanted to have to pass another RV. The sites were good, tree covered, plenty big enough for our 37' motor home. Not sure how they would work for bigger rigs. Bathrooms were large, clean and in good shape. Lovely hiking trails around the campsite, good places to walk our dogs. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

Memorial day weekend 2015 visiting friends in Lake Charles so we stayed here for the weekend. Reservations through Reserve America were easy when we arrived check in was easy. Camp ground another story, signage in park is poorly marked and in need of upgrades. Other campers chose to ignore the single one way sign and the obvious fact that trailers can only back in ONE WAY, this was on going the entire 3 days as no one would keep it a one way road. I had to wait for a guy pulling a pop up trailer to back in the wrong way before I could make the loop back around as there was NO possible way to back into my site. I was luck while not listed as a pull through I was able to drive through the grass and pull through. The roads in camping loop 1 are VERY narrow and poorly maintained. The gravel parking area might have been gravel once it is now more grass/weeds/dirt. The threaded connection for both the sewer connections on the site were both broken so the hose just sat there. Breaker on the pedestal tripped 4 times while we were there only running the AC. Rented another site for our friends as a walk up while we were there, we had our card on it and were waiting for another camper that had parked on it to move. Finally asked them to move turns out it was rented to them as well! No refund given even though they booked it twice. As a work around park ranger allowed them to put their tent on our site.

Bath hose - WOW a poorly maintained portable building. There is an adjacent slab that looks like it was once the bath house that was demolished.

WiFi did work and was great for checking email that was about it. Had a full Verizon 4G signal so opted to use my hot spot to stream a movie.

Trash cans none in site, camp host picked up trash Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise you have to take trash to dumpster at boat ramp or camp ground 2. The park itself is very nice just the physical camping areas need upgrades. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you are traveling through this area and need a night of rest or a few days this is a great park. You should not have a problem getting a spot during week days but better get a reservation for a weekend. This comment does not take in consideration when kids are out of school. The park is a beautiful scenic spot with moss covered oaks, pine and cypress trees. The spot we got was a pull through and it was asphalt and pretty level. There is all sorts of wild creatures so beware. There are swampy area. Nice playgrounds for the kids and the bath houses look adequate but we did not use them. We would definitely stay here again. We stayed here in a travel trailer. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice campground in the woods with great swampy trees and a lagoon and trails. Spots are not level, in dirt, and very tricky to get into. NOT for big rigs.

Bring bug spray.

Full hook ups area is best for bigger rigs. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed 3 nights. The campground is somewhat rundown. The roads in the campground are in need of repair and they are poorly marked. The sites are very close together but fairly level. There did not appear to be a host on site. The bath house was reasonably clean and well-stocked. The showers are the pushbutton type, but the water cuts off immediately when you release the button. There is only one hook to hang your shower bag, clothes & towel. On the plus side, the campground does have free laundry, walking trails and interesting sounds at night from the adjacent swamp. The town of Moss Bluff is less than a mile away and has places to eat and buy groceries. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Restroom/showers could be a lot cleaner. Be prepared for a navy shower--water kicks off quick, starts out cold then gets too hot. The laundry is absolutely free, Wi-Fi works very good. Atmosphere is to die for. Unfortunately people leave trash behind. The first thing my wife did was pickup trash. Overall we enjoyed our week and would come back. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Was awkward to get trailer in the space. The post markers at adjacent sites added to difficulty. After getting in, had to re-locate as electric post was to far removed from the pad. Just had a bit of a run down feel to it. But free Wi-Fi worked OK and the laundry room washers and dryers are free to use which is a nice bonus. Restrooms were iffy. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Awesome state park. Small sites but were perfect for us in VW. Loved the trails. Internet was lightning fast as long as you are near the bathrooms, which we were. Free laundry...thanks LA!! Now, the down side was the condition of the bathrooms...pretty bad, use able but bad. We did speak to a park employee and he admitted that the girl who was responsible for them was lazy. She would sign off the cleaning sheet days ahead of time. Apparently the supervisor knows this but states that she is better nothing. Still I would return as park itself is really nice...just bring your flip flops into the shower!! We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.

I gave this park a 9 because we stayed in the off season which made it not too squished and because some of the sites had the hookups are way too far back to reach your rig. A lot of spots are very close, however, at least they are staggered which helps a little. Other than those two things we loved this state park. The laundry room was spotless and completely free. Good trails for some walking, quite a few deer roaming around not afraid of people, quiet park, locked/coded gate at night, and park rangers driving through regularly. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome.
