Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground. Our spot, #77, was in the new loop and had a view of the river. We were near the bathhouse, dumpster and dump station (but did not have any foul odors!). We've learned the hard way that it's best to either call the campground or take a recon trip if closeby to determine the best way in and out. The staff are exceptionally helpful. Hint: If you have a large rig (0urs is 40') do not take hwy 21 or 1077 off of I-12. Instead, take exit 47 off of I-12, go south on hwy 445 then turn left at the T, you'll be about 9-10 miles from the campground then but it's a straight shot with a wider road and less trees. The bathhouse was updated and it was kept immaculately clean! Even the shower curtains were clean - no mildew! Our weekend was quiet and relaxing. Easy bicycle riding throughout the small park. Shade trees and pleasant breezes. We had satellite reception and over the air reception. Also At&T reception. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots to see and do in Madisonville and Covington and close to New Orleans. We had dinner at Half Shell Oyster House in Covington - yummy! Piggly Wiggly less than 3 miles from the campground is small but very convenient and had a large selection of spirits.

We camped in the loop by the river. Not too crowded beautiful trees with moss hanging from them. We were able to moor our boat and leave it tied to the dock. The river is beautiful but beware there are alligators in it. We saw a six footer right next to the boat landing. You can fish from the pier surrounded but lush trees. There is a fish cleaning station at the end of the pier. We had grandchildren with us and they had a great time. Small hiking trail in our loop. We stayed at site 69 with lots of shade. No over the air channels could be received We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

very nice park adjacent to river. Our first night was in the 'non premium' section, but we moved for the second night to the 'premium' section as it was smaller, less crowded and right next to the river and nature trail. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the "Premium" area, it is closer to the river. Enjoyed the stay, but it had recently rained and most everything that was not paved was muddy. Interior roads and asphalt pads are relatively narrow. Vehicles are allowed to park if at least 2 wheels are on the pavement, the result is a lot of mud on roads, and ruts along the side. Never were able to get a WIFI signal, but Verizon was good. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a nice tour of the home of the original property owners of the land. Home is on park property, our docent was quite good. Entire park was donated to the state by the estate of the former owner, a timber logging and saw mill operation.

We got the last spot driving in. The river was lovely. Our spot backed up to the fence and road so there was so traffic noise. Our campsite had cigarette butts lying around and fire pit had beer cans in it. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

It rained a lot while we were here, not the fault of the park obviously, but the park has very poor drainage and it was impossible to make it from the car to the motorhome without stepping in puddles. The park is well-kept and beautiful, but seemed understaffed. No one to check us in despite it being office hours (office was locked) and I noticed the entry gate was never down even when I came in late. The walkway along the river was pretty. I think it's worth it to pay more to stay in the "premiere" section as the sites are bigger. Washer/dryer is free, but dryer was broken our entire stay (6 days). Nice playground for kids. Good proximity to stores/restaurants/etc. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.

The asphalt parking pads are narrow therefore your awning will extend over a bed of rocks/shells. It's not bad but today is rainy so it will be a bit messy.

Nice state park. Very busy on the weekends. Sites in the newer section abut the river with a nice boardwalk trail thru the swamp. Wi-fi is present but maintaining a connection was problematic. Campsites need some TLC, broken fire pits, ants and general cleanliness around site. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice state park. Check in was quick and easy. Interior roads and sites are paved although a bit narrow. Our site and others were just wide enough for the rvs and the road width made it a little tricky backing in without going off the pavement. Water and electric worked well and were in good location. Nice grassy space between sites with tall pine and oak trees for some shade. Some OTA channels available and wifi worked well. Restrooms were clean and had the sink, shower and toilet together in a room. We would camp here again if in the area. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you plan to visit New Orleans from here you have to take the 24 mile bridge across the lake. There is a $5 toll into New Orleans, no toll out.

Stay here almost every time we are in the area visiting family and friends. A nice quiet park in a beautiful setting. This time we stayed in the back, "premium", loop. Only drawback is no sewers but for a short stay who needs sewer. Wi-fi was strong (repeater right by our site) but it is pretty restrictive about what you can do. Washer and drier in the bathroom building were FREE, can you believe it? Satellite and phone coverage were good and you can get many off-air TV stations as well as satellite. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.

I've stayed here many times. Beautiful setting. Spacious sites. Road into the park has low hanging tree limbs that need to be trimmed but they may be on private property. I picked up small pieces of trash all around my site and the fire ring was full of trash. It was nice and quiet even with the park nearly full. We stayed in the front part of the park. We loved this park. I would give it a 10 if it had sewer! Check in was easy and the setting was peaceful with many trees. Sites were spread apart well. Some sites are near the river which had a nice boardwalk and hiking trail. This park is located right next to subdivisions and gated communities, but is an oasis in a populated area. It rained a lot the first night and grassy area around our site was wet and muddy for a while. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.
