First let me say the park is scenic and beautiful with MANY giant moss covered oaks, a perfect picture of the South. However it is NOT big rig friendly. There are numerous tree limbs hanging in the roads throughout the park making the drive in to your site hazardous to your roof, satellite, AC units and even awnings. We were told they don't cut the trees to keep a natural look. Enter at your own risk if you have a motorhome (ours is 40' long). The roads are paved and sites are paved mostly level but don't count on the size being accurate or usable if you have to move over to keep limbs off the roof or slides. The bathroom on the men's side was very dirty, both need work and are dated. There is a beach within walking distance but don't plan on using it. We were there for Father's Day weekend with the grandsons ready to play in the water and found a big warning at the beach- Advisory of High Bacteria and Do Not Swim!

Big rigs enter at your own risk. Plan to drive down middle of road and still have branches scrap your rig. Many pull-throughs are

short and very tight.

This could be a great park but unless they trim a lot of trees it is not safe for big rigs. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

My complaint about this stay was the inexperienced customer service. I handed the clerk my drivers license at check-in for him to get my information, but he handed it back to me so I had to recite. I assumed answering I wanted a full hookup when asked meant I would get it. The desk said when I asked why I had only electricity and water that full hookup sites were limited. Although there was a free dump station, this jaded my experience. The campground was packed when I arrived, families grilling almost like a tailgate experience, but by 10-11, the grounds were quiet. I saw communal bathrooms, but did not use them. I would stay again after clarifying the charges. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Water & 50amp site, plenty of room between sites. Very nice park. We've been here once before hence the reason for our return. WIFI had been added since our last visit but it was down for the first 2 days we were here but worked fairly well when it was up. Several over the air TV stations were available. Some of the interior roads are a bit narrow. Watch for low hanging limbs. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Approx. 35 miles north of New Orleans so there is plenty to do there. Park is convenient to Mandeville, Covington and Slidell so there is plenty of shopping available. Great bike trail near the park entrance, well protected and it is also partly shaded which makes for great bike riding. Of course, the park sits directly on Lake Ponchartrain with beach access.

This could be a beautiful park, but it is not cared for. The setting is lovely. Lots of oak trees with moss. Stayed in campsite 16 which was a spacious pull-through and very private. Unfortunately, the restrooms and showers were filthy. The showers were not cleaned the entire week we were there. The day use and open areas had trash thrown around and the grounds were not cared for. The weekend was full of day use visitors that trashed the park and dumped their crab boil pots in the planters and on the ground. The lake front beach had signs warning against swimming because of bacteria levels.

Friends stayed in one of the cabins which was really nice, except it wasn't very clean.

If the park was cared for properly it would be a great place to camp. I would not stay here again. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is our first visit to a Louisiana State Park. This is a beautiful state park. It has many large trees with hanging moss. The park is used frequently as a backdrop for picture taking.

There are two campgrounds at the park: old and new. The old campground (sites 99 - 143) and new campground (sites 1 - 98). The old one has tighter spacing between sites. There are two shower buildings in each campground. The old campground has one "old" shower bldg and one "new". The new campground tends to "sell out" faster than the old one. The new campground has 4 or 5 full hookup sites while the remainder of the sites, along with the old campground, have water and electricity. There are also a large number of "unimproved (tent)" sites.

This park must have a high water table (it is on Lake Pontchartrain) since there was some standing water throughout
the park.

There is a fantastic bike trail (Tammany Trace) that crosses the road into the park.

There is a beach on Lake Pontchartrain along with a "kiddy water
park".

Overall this was a very relaxing and enjoyable park. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

It is hard to rate this park since it was saturated with water the week we stayed there. The park is located on Lake Ponchartrain with easy access to New Orleans over the causeway ($3 toll). The sites in the campground are very close together and there are a number of sites that are very shady. We had a pull through site with FHU that was only a couple of steps from our neighbors. There are a number of trails in the park but with the rains we were not able to use them. There is a great paved rails to trails path that runs through the park and extends for several miles east and west from the park. We would stay in this park again if we were in the area. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice campground and not just an RV park. The spaces are spacious and have a lot of room between them. Wooded but not too wooded that you can still get your satellite. Only a few of the RV sites have sewer but there is a dump site at the park exit, otherwise 50 amp power and water at the sites. I would stay here again. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

After spending a few days here last winter, we stayed two weeks on this trip. Our site this time was in the "old" campground, where the sites are more spacious than in the "new" campground. All sites in the park are paved; others have reported some deterioration of the pavement. There is a mix of back-in and pull-through sites, although most of the pull-through sites have too tight a radius, making for constrained use. Also, there are some issues with the location of the electrical tower at those sites. There is a fair amount of standing water this time, including immediately off the paved part of some of the lots. Also, the grass on a few sites is completely torn up (feral pigs?) and essentially unusable. The "new" comfort stations are nicely laid out and the free showers were a pleasure to use. The fee shown is the daily rate, and does not include the $6 "transaction fee" the state charges users so they can then pay to camp, even walk-ups. At least the fee is only charged once per visit, not daily. We had to clean the cigarette butts out of the charcoal grill and felt that the park people should have done that. We couldn't get the free Wi-Fi to work at all but our Verizon card worked very well, as did over-the-air TV. The 8.75% sales tax on virtually everything, including groceries, in the county was a downer. Regardless, we like the area during Mardi Gras and would stay here again another time. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We have enjoyed the Mardi Gras parades (on water and on the streets) in Slidell, and avoid the chaos of New Orleans, about 28 miles away over the Lake Pontchartrain causeway. The traffic in Mandeville and up to Covington is horribly busy, but navigable. Eating establishments offering southern Louisiana food abound and are usually quite good.

Third time I've stayed at this state park. Sites readily available on weekdays, but sold out most weekends year round. Level site, standup grill, picnic table. Good for hiking and biking. Damage from Hurricane Isaac still not repaired so some trails are closed. Interesting on site museum. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

$28 a night plus the silly $6 reservation fee LA state parks charge.
Bring a lawn mower with you doesn't look like the grass has been cut in the camp ground for over a month!
Got a pull through site close to the comfort station. Site space was ample and was easy to get in and out. Looking at most pull through sites in the "new campground" the pedestal is on the wrong side, our electric reached no problem had to make a Walmart run for another 25' hose.
Sites 73, 74(pull through), 75 and 76 are the only ones with sewer connections.
Restrooms very clean camp host was doing a good job keeping them stocked. Showers looked nice and clean but we choose to use ours.
Trash cans through out the camp ground had flies all around them could stand to be cleaned and sprayed a little better.
Day use area fills up with locals enjoying the lake / beach but they do stay out of the camp ground.
Some of the camp sites are turning into gravel as the asphalt has aged and shifted they are just filling in with gravel. If maintenance is not performed the entire camp ground will be gravel in the next few years.
I would have given this park 5 stars had it not been for the flies and the grass.
I was able to connect to the WiFi and get an IP address but could not surf. Verizon signal is excellent here since you are basically in the city so we used our hot spot. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The campground has low hanging limbs that you need to watch and the grass wasn't cut in the campsites. For $30.00 a night I considered this high for water and electricity. My site was tight for my 40 foot rig. The pull through sites are loops and therefore the size is deceiving. Will have to admit, the Park does have some beautiful trees. This is a very nice park. The sites are level and easily accessible with large rigs. We enjoyed the park hostess, who was very informative, helpful, and welcoming. Many nice areas to walk the dogs and it was an easy drive to New Orleans. The lake causeway is 20 miles long and is a flat bridge across the lake. The park is well kept, clean and very lovely. We look forward to returning here again. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

Very spacious, clean bath house. Pull-through site was a very tight arc which made our 28 ft camper and full size pickup awkward to park; saw some not quite as tight. Nice level paved roads to ride bikes with beautiful scenery and convenient to the Tammany Trace for longer rides. Some low areas which fill up with rainwater and draw mosquitoes. Clean in general. Quiet at night. Convenient to town for those who need to go. Fire ring & grill close, picnic table movable. Only 6 sewer hookup sites. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

There are some nice beaches on Lake Pontchartrain in addition to kid's playground in the south campground.
