Fontainbleau is a really pretty park with huge old oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. Lake Ponchartrain is a short walk from the campsites and has a pier, small "beach." There are also several hiking trails including a boardwalk through water and tall grasses. We saw a number of deer casually grazing in the campground and saw photos of a coyote taken by another camper. We also met some nuisance raccoons who were pretty fearless and were pretty determined to find some food at our site! One final note, the bathrooms were super clean -- our camp host ladies did an amazing job! We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are several interesting towns nearby if you want to go out to eat or shop -- Abita Springs, Mandeville, and Covington. New Orleans is over the Causeway Bridge across Lake Pontchartrain and takes about 40 minutes. During rainy weather I would avoid the south side of the campground as it is lower and looks like it would be flooded.

As others have noted, there are two camping areas, the "old campground" and the "new campground" and have noted a preference for one over the other. We were in the old campground but in exploring both, they are very similar and the actual site is more important than the area. There are not any terrible sites that we noted. We had an outside loop, rather than interior, and we felt that was better. If staying again, we would go for one of the outside pull-through sites in the new campground. The sites are long and level with enough tree cover to provide shade without making it dark. We had good, strong 50 amp service. There is a dump station in each camping area. We did not have any problem getting DirecTV satellite with our portable dish. Verizon signal had good, strong data. There is WiFi that sort of worked, sometimes, slowly. We found the park to be very clean and noted folks out picking up trash on several occasions. We would certainly stay at this park again. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

There are a few hiking trails in the park. For bicycling there is the wonderful 30 mile long Tammany Trace paved bike path. There are several grocery stores and all services very close to the park.

We spent six nights at Fontainebleau State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had site #74, the only pull-through with sewer hookup in the park. The pull-through was asphalt and curved. The asphalt was broken up in places and this made it somewhat difficult to get level. One peculiar aspect of our site was that the electric and water hookups were on the door side so we had to run our lines under our rig. The entry roads are mostly one-way and are somewhat tight in the turns for a big rig but we managed. There are much more spacious pull-throughs in the South Campground but these lack sewer hook-ups. The campground was very nice and provided nice amenities such as a beach, fishing pier and nature trails. We spotted an armadillo, several deer and a couple of wild boars in the park. The laundry room was quite small but the restrooms were nice. We would recommend this park. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The park and campground are nice. However, there is a lack of maintenance and grounds keeping in the pavilion, beach, and sugar mill areas. Campground is kept nice, as well as open spaces in the park. There doesn't seem to be any attention being made to clean up walkways and picnic pavilions. Visitor center was closed. Water park area closed. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The RV park "old campground" is like an old prostitute with way too much cheap makeup. Bathrooms filthy, washing machines out of order for a long time. Lots of standing dead trees waiting to fall on campers. Many signs of poor management and insufficient or mis spent funds. Watched a host use his sewer hose to dump something into the ditch next to his rig, and he's across the street from the dump station. I hope it was just his grey tank!! The rest of park looks very nice and the location is great for access to wonderful food. The price for LA state park camping just went up about 20℅ and they now charge sales tax around 10℅, so it's not a great deal anymore. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A mixed bag! The larger Fontainebleau park is nice with beautiful picturesque live oaks, lots of hiking/biking, a board walk partly being rebuilt in the lovely marsh. A large rally/picnic area with a large beautiful brick bathhouse with long brick covered pavilions on either side, and a long concrete paved pier with a covered pavilion at the end into Lake Pontchartrain with the I-10 bridge visible far out in the lake. All lovely and well maintained. But the campground is a very mixed bag. The so called old CG is actually better with many paved back ins, and long pull-throughs further from the road, but closer to the road are very close together back-ins. Levelness varies. The main bath house was clean. The peripheral sites are widely spaced and very nice. The so called new CG has a central area of mostly back ins closely packed many with unlevel, badly deteriorating, asphalt sites with mainly dirt between. A further "unimproved " section further without W E has actually much nicer paved sites with nice grass between. A less nice wooded unimproved area is across the main CG road. There is a dump at both the new and old CG. Cost was $25 plus an obligory $6 transaction fee for $31 plus tax. The new CG really needs improvement. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

Excellent price and the location is awesome for lakefront sunsets and to visit NOLA. I would rate this a 9 or 10 for state park but a 5 or 6 for campground. Beautiful park with wonderful foliage and wildlife. Wifi usable at times and good over the air TV stations.

Arrived after park office closed and didn't understand that our site as stated in email was CI080 actually meant site 80. Also poor signage meant we navigated tight interior roads when we didn't need too. So be careful as this campground can be a challenge for big rigs.

Our site 80 was back up to woods which was good. Plenty of room, just not long ago enough for 40' toyhauler and tow dually. Ground around site all dug up for no reason. The laundry facilities are terrible. Use laundromat in town. The bathhouse was often out of toilet paper but usually clean. The showers were awful. Prisons probably have better showers. Nowhere to hang or place clothes or shower items. Push button shower had to press 3 times for quick shower. Standing water everywhere. Yoga required to balance getting back into clothes. Gross shower curtain. Ick. If site had sewer I would never use bathhouse. If park would spend just a little money and labor could make facilities usable quite easily. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We changed spots 3 times during our weeks stay. first one was a swamp, second one became a swamp and the third one had piles of wild boar deposits everywhere. The park itself is beautiful. lakeside is beautiful. great bike trail at beginning of park that brings you into lovely Mandeville. The campground itself could use some tlc. Young woman at the front office was very nice and helpful. One camper left their dog outside in a fierce rainstorm with no where to go. I called the front desk and a "park ranger' drove right on by. Didn't do anything. I questioned him and he said the dog didn't look in any distress. No way to treat an animal. So all in all, this place didn't leave me with a good feeling. Don't really think they have any security either. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed here one night traveling west. Large state park with lots of amenities. We were in small pull through so we didn't have to unhook for the nite. Very open site with good Verizon LTE service and lots of channels over antenna. You can see the bridge going into New Orleans from the campground. We didn't do that but would consider in future. Think I would choose a back in site in this section in the future. Would back up to woods for more privacy. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Asphalt interior roads and site pads. Some of the asphalt is deteriorated. Few full hookups. Lots of trees with some falling branches. Interior roads and sites, just passable for big rigs. Right on the lake-lots of family friendly things to do. Would stay here again. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

For the price, you can't beat most State Parks. This one is no exception. Absolutely beautiful scenery and the old oak trees covered in moss make exceptional picture opportunities. There was plenty families taking advantage of it. Weather was cold so we didn't make it down to the small beach area but we've heard it's really nice. Our 6 yr old enjoyed the new looking play area and driving around at night we saw 6 deer, wild hog, rabbits, armadillos and possum's. Couple deer crept up behind us while we were sitting by the campfire. The pull thru sites seem more spacious to us but several back in sites are nice as well. Believe only 4 or 5 sites have sewer hookups and I would rate it higher if they all did. The campround host drove by all the time and we saw security several times each evening and night. A nice park and we'll return in the future. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here with other campers (family) and they used the showers etc and said they were clean. The campground hosts were very friendly and helpful. We were in site 15, fairly level, nicely shaded and we got a good signal with DTV. a good cell signal with ATT too. Our grands, aged 8 - 12 enjoyed fishing, swimming and the 'spray-ground'. At night we took a slow ride out to the beach and saw lots of deer and wild hogs. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large, attractive state park campground near Mandeville, LA. Full on weekends due to heavy use by locals. Reservations are recommended for weekend stays. Very convenient and affordable base for exploring New Orleans. Took us about an hour to get to downtown New Orleans by driving across the amazing 25 mi. long bridge across Lake Pochatrain (sp?). Sites were nice sized, but somewhat hard to navigate the interior roads and get into some of the sites. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Mandeville appears to be a rather upscale community with numerous small restaurants and shops along the lake shore. Beautiful area. This campground makes a good base for visiting New Orleans for only $25 per night while staying in a safe, clean and convenient park. We found it to be a good trade-off of cost and safety versus closeness to New Orleans proper. Loved the drive across the lake on the long bridge. A very pretty and impressive experience.

First let me say the park is scenic and beautiful with MANY giant moss covered oaks, a perfect picture of the South. However it is NOT big rig friendly. There are numerous tree limbs hanging in the roads throughout the park making the drive in to your site hazardous to your roof, satellite, AC units and even awnings. We were told they don't cut the trees to keep a natural look. Enter at your own risk if you have a motorhome (ours is 40' long). The roads are paved and sites are paved mostly level but don't count on the size being accurate or usable if you have to move over to keep limbs off the roof or slides. The bathroom on the men's side was very dirty, both need work and are dated. There is a beach within walking distance but don't plan on using it. We were there for Father's Day weekend with the grandsons ready to play in the water and found a big warning at the beach- Advisory of High Bacteria and Do Not Swim!

Big rigs enter at your own risk. Plan to drive down middle of road and still have branches scrap your rig. Many pull-throughs are

short and very tight.

This could be a great park but unless they trim a lot of trees it is not safe for big rigs. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Motorhome.

My complaint about this stay was the inexperienced customer service. I handed the clerk my drivers license at check-in for him to get my information, but he handed it back to me so I had to recite. I assumed answering I wanted a full hookup when asked meant I would get it. The desk said when I asked why I had only electricity and water that full hookup sites were limited. Although there was a free dump station, this jaded my experience. The campground was packed when I arrived, families grilling almost like a tailgate experience, but by 10-11, the grounds were quiet. I saw communal bathrooms, but did not use them. I would stay again after clarifying the charges. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.
