Small, quiet, convenient Not a lot of hiking trails but walking/running around the campground and the adjacent SplashDown area (open only in warm weather) is a decent workout. There is a nature trail as well. Sites are well spaced, outside loop sites afford more privacy, mst have no shade, some have partial only 3 have a lot, Site 13 is right next to the children's playground. Some a depression that look as though they could get quite boggy with a lot of rain. While we were here (early Feb 2018) there was light rain most days with one heavy rainfall and a few sites had a bit of standing water. However, on Mardi Gras weekend there were a number of tent campers and all seemed to find dry areas within their site. The gate is locked at 9pm and there is a padlock for which you are given a code at registration. (Hint: have someone hold an umbrella over you with the car lights pointed at the lock if it is raining. It's finicky.) The only drawback for us was that there is a railroad crossing nearby and the bell seems to clang 24/7. There is also a refinery nearby and if the CAT cracker lets off exhaust it sounds like a large jet plane is taking off in the campground. Luckily this is not a regular or frequent occurrence and it is done during the day. Freight trains do go by but we did not hear any blow their horns during the night, in fact not bothered by them at all. To get into the city should take about 30-40 min either 46-39-I10 or straight down 46 which takes you right to the visitor center Laundry in the same building as the restrooms-2 each W/D $1 a load WiFi is spotty and we had to boost our ATT but got 3-4 bars - edc1951

This is a beautiful State Park which is located about 15 miles outside of central New Orleans and the French Quarter. It is in a beautiful wooded tract of land which offers both open sunny as well as partially shaded very large sites. The trailer pads are asphalt and fairly narrow at a little over eight feet but very level. The utilities are located in the rear and did require an extension hose for water. There were multiple OTA television stations and Verizon and Sprint coverage was good. The picnic tables all appeared to be warped and in somewhat rough condition, but I am sure maintaining them in such high humidity and wet conditions is difficult. Large fire pits and small raised barbecues available on each site. The children's water park was opened on the weekend only and it appears the pool was closed for the season. The gates are locked at night but a code is provided if you return after 9 p.m. The Park police / Rangers patroled frequently during the day. At this time of year there were only four other campers on the entire Loop however the ranger did say that it becomes busy as temperatures cool off. There is no set dog walking area however the park has numerous areas with paved and grass areas which were perfect. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the New Orleans area. - bbmidwife

Awesome for a state park! A little further from New Orleans then we wanted to be (because we taxi'd in for Mardi Gras) but still a perfect hub for seeing the area. The first day there were dead wasps all over the restroom but they were cleaned up the next day. Water and electric worked fine. Whole area is pretty wet (it's in a wetland!) so I could see how it might be buggy in different months. - Adventure in Moving

If you want to see the sights of New Orleans, this is the best place to park and explore. Nestled in a little town just 25 min from downtown, this park doesnt need fancy amenities. Sites are grass and mostly level. We felt very safe here. The park manager was very sweet, personable, and does everything in the park to make it nice. Wifi is better at the front of the park. Laundry room could use some updating. The fulltime residents are friendly and fun. We came for just an overnite stay and ended up staying for a week as we enjoyed the park and city so much. We will definitaly be back! - travelingAlfords
Feb 2016 - $12.00
Very down to earth campgrounds. The new owners are very friendly and willing/eager to be of help and live on site- willing to take trash to dumpster (do not leave outside overnight).Choice of 30 or 50 amp but 50 does cost a few dollars more. Several friendly full timers located in the back area leaving front area for short term. About half of grounds is shaded with large old trees and about half in open space (great for satellite). Pet friendly with safe walking roads. Ice available at campgrounds as well as laundry area. - witchey1
Jan 2016 - $25.00
We are here right now and would very much recommend this park. It's quiet, I feel safe here, and it is only about a 15 minute straight shot to downtown. We looked at several Parks and we were very nervous about staying in New Orleans because every park seemed to not be in the greatest locations or there are several located close to a major rail switching yard which we felt would have interrupted our sleep. This is not a 5 star resort if that is what you are looking for but it has full hook ups 30 or 50 amp service, cable, WiFi (if you are close to the office). Cable is available and this park is in a safe area of town. The owner couldn't be nicer and goes out of his way to help you with anything that you need and keeps a very close eye on the Park. - sandy27

We spent 4 nights there. We had 50 amp hookup water and sewer. The location was good for catching the stop and go bus at the visitors center. We spent our days away and spent evenings in the park. Since we are self contained we did not see or use any facilities. The trains were the worst part of staying there! That was bad but we used the air conditioner to mute the sound. - oniedu
Dec 2013 - $27.00
We've been on the road for 9 months and this is by far the most substandard RV park we've encountered (and there have been some shockers!). Geographically (which the owners aren't responsible for) is is unfortunate, sandwiched between a busy highway and very busy railway line with continual train movements all night. What the owners can take responsibility for is the disgustingly dirty state of everything - from the grounds to the toilets that had no toilet paper and appeared to be uncleaned for months. We would drive all night before ever contemplating staying here again. We are not fussy people and truly cannot emphasize how bad this park is. - Monaire Corporati
Oct 2013 - $25.00
Once again we let PPA make our choice for us. You have unlimited stay here and now I know why. The only good thing about this Park, it does have FHU and is close to downtown (WWII Museum). The sites are small, but the owner lets you park wherever you want. There are rundown units that haven't moved in years throughout. You park yourself, put your money in an envelope, and push it through the hole in the door. The biggy at this Park is the train yard just across the fence. The trains are switching all night with noise that goes from the whistles to the screeching of wheels on the tracks. We won't be staying here again. - Arizona Traveler

This is *fairly* good option while viziting NO. As campgrounds go, it's OK. Great staff, fair price, reasonably well spaced. However, the railroad isn't just a stretch of track with trains traveling thru intermittently. It abuts a switching yard where they are constantly building trains 24/7. Engines powering up or braking. The ringing of steel wheels on steel rails. Just be forewarned. It wasn't a deal breaker for me. But, I did grow weary of it. Second important thing. If you're going into town each day, the bus system is very erratic. Thirty minutes waits are common. It's two buses to The French Quarter. It typically took us 90 minutes. The bus drivers are excellent and patient. Taxis run about $20 plus tip. We felt safe, but, like most of the ring around NO, it's pretty gritty. If you've traveled in Mexico, you should be comfortable in these parts.... - Maine Divers
Dec 2017 - $30.00
Booked 3 nites stayed 5 just before xmas. Immediately noticed good size park. Very cold day. Owner almost insisted my wife and I remain inside and warm as he backed us in (customer service at its finest) check in was quick and efficent. Very clean office and laundry. Restrooms roomy and clean. Neighborhood questionable, felt safe with gated security. Even after hours owner seemed to be right there make sure no problems. Very quiet at night. Except for trains. Plenty info on sightseeing available. When uber came the owner escorted the driver directly to our parking spot( again great customer service) $14.00 to french quarter. Yes will stay again. Only one issue. Went to Ask for cable box on 3rd day, the two girls in the office tried but couldnt figure it out and bagan getting loud. Until then customer service was outstanding. - JLouis
Dec 2017 - $50.00
This is a clean, gated, safe place for your RV, but nothing fancy. The park is just a large graveled lot with perimeter back-ins, BUT it is close to New Orleans, afterall you come here for the City and not to hang out at the RV park. Train noise was barely heard and not a problem for us. Staff was really nice and the facilities clean and well kept. For the practical purpose it serves this is a good deal, for sure we'd stay here again, and they take PA. - Syncro

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting New Orleans. It is a tight RV park. not a lot of room between RV's. The owners are great on getting you into your space. They offer shuttle service into the French Quarter for $10 round trip. The only drawback is the train switch yard at the rear and the 4 lane hwy in the front. Motorcycles race up and down it til late at night. They charge a service fee of $4 if using a credit card. - chucky2

Super friendly and helpful staff. The Park isn't that big but the available sites are wide and deep enough for me to park my 41 foot Class a. - ETCTA

This park is basically in a train yard, in an urban area. Although there was a gate on the property we did not feel safe there. We heard trains hooking up and leaving the yard all night long. There were many full time residents there, who seemed to be questionable characters. The pool was so dirty that I wouldn't have bathed a dog in it. We had planned to stay here longer but left early to check into another RV park on the other side of New Orleans. - Mimi-Papa

Fellow RV'rs please don't stay here. Not secure, as it should be. Main office was spooky. We were told that the main gate would be closed. It was never closed. Security zero. I have no idea why we stayed here other than we were misinformed. We made a reservation well in advance and they had no record of it. Stayed here one night and left as early as we could. The office staff was fairly friendly. - mywinnie1-
Mar 2014 - $31.00
OK, all the previous reviews are correct. Scary part of town, so we didn't even grocery shop at a nearby grocery store while we were here; will do it when we arrive at next destination. Bathrooms were old but surprisingly clean. If you want a close destination to French Quarters and don't mind HWY noise, then this is an okay place to stay for a couple of days if you are careful and also do your grocery shopping before you arrive. It also rained two days really hard while we were here and the drainage is good. Should have been $20 a night not $30!! There were only about 4 RV travelers in the whole park; the rest are permanent workers that park their RVs there. - kemosabe
Mar 2014 - $30.00
Whoa. This is a scary place and a cat breeding ground to boot. The pool is filthy. The amenities are old and gave me the heebie geebies. Really nasty part of town, near the hwy, and train tracks. And, it is definitely located on the wrong side of those tracks. I wish I hadn't booked and paid before seeing it. I actually considered leaving and camping in Walmart but then felt I would prefer to have the gated protection of the Riverboat. Later, I wondered who I was being gated with? Felt uneasy the whole time. Kept everything locked up tight. Couldn't wait to leave in the morning. - kweega

Stay anywhere but here. This place is a cramped filthy mess, filled with run-down FEMA trailers, and right next to the horrible-smelling oil refineries. At the entrance is a run-down convenience store that looks like crack-ho central. The inside of the park and the motel were no better. Each site had sewer vent stacks sticking out of the ground emitting noxious smells at eye level. I wouldn't stay there if they paid ME $20 a night. - meltar
Sep 2012 - $23.00
This park is not in a good area. There is a gate that closes at night and we felt reasonably safe in the park. The parking lot of the on site convenience store is full of 'Ladies of the evening' up to mid morning. There is nothing to do in the park itself but I guess that's not what you go to New Orleans for. Rate was for a monthly rate while we were in the area working. It is close to the Interstate for access. Depending on traffic the French Quarter is 15 minutes away. Construction on the nearby drawbridge makes access tricky depending on the direction you come in from. The manager of the park knows nothing about the RV lifestyle. I was dumping the holding tank before we left and he said 'So that's how you dump the tanks'. Not bad really for a few days of sightseeing. - catadjuster

We were warned about this part of town, but it is a gated RV park next to a motel. It was clean and the staff was friendly. Sites were level enough. Very close to the French Quarter. We would stay here again. - molly29

First, the owner is a nice man and very helpful, BUT, the RV park itself is a sty...litter and garbage everywhere. Never been to a park this bad. Our site had the water and sewer on one side of the coach and the electric on the other side. No breaker on the box. Had to run the power cord under the coach...and I'm not as young as I used to be. We have a large motor home with a washer/dryer and 3 a/c units. No problem with power. Sewer backed up when I started dumping grey water. The owner was siting someone else nearby and said he would get the plumber in. He said the only problem was too many sites dumping at the same time. It backed up again the next time I used it. The ONE bathroom available has a toilet, sink and one shower stall and I'd only use it if desperate. Fortunately, most people staying there have their own bathrooms. The laundry room is a mess and contains rusty old equipment. Don't even know if it works. Garbage all around. There's a fence around the place and a secured vehicle and pedestrian gate. That's good, because the neighborhood is really bad. One of the contractors staying there told us his boss won't let him work before 7 or after 4 during the week and never on weekends because of the crime. He said you go the wrong way down a street and you could be in trouble. There's a bar down the street that is jumping all night and cars and motorcycles speeding and racing along the street...all night long. The owner also operates a restaurant just outside the perimeter of the campground. It is in great condition and the food is excellent. But, it too has a security door. Why did we stay here...a week? It's conveniently located to I-10 and our friend back home's Dad lives near the city and gave us a grand tour. The best way to deal with crime is to avoid it, and that's what we did. Again the owner is a very nice man, but he apparently operates a number of businesses and owns rental property, so this park is probably an after thought. - DJanis
Feb 2016 - $18.00
This was a mobile home park that the new owner are turn into a RV park, some of the hook ups are not where most RVers are use to having them but the new owner are up dating them. Spacious
gravel sites. The nice thing is that it is gated. Will stay there when we go back to New Orleans. - alleycat
Apr 2015 - $35.00
This RV park is a former mobile home park. There are a few sites occupied with long-term local workers. There are no picnic tables or a playground here - just RV sites. Site driveways are concrete runners (pavers) and gravel. Very large (25' x 100') RV sites. My site was high & dry even after a record-breaking 3" of heavy rain! I felt safe and secure here as the park is completely fenced and has a pass-coded gated entrance. It was well lighted with high profile street lighting. The electric was very good, city water & sewer - all easy to hook-up to. As this park is in East New Orleans, it is located in a business district. I-10 highway traffic noise is somewhat noticeable. The RV Park staff is excellent to work with. Very good communications & eager to help. Pelican RV Park is situated at the Southwest corner of the intersection of U. S. Hwy. 90 (also known as Chef Menteur Highway) and Downman Road. It is approximately 5 miles east of the French Quarter. Big rigs should disconnect your towed as you have to make a sharp turn to enter the park via the pass-coded gated entrance. There is PLENTY of room in the adjacent parking lot to disconnect. When traveling to New Orleans, we will definitely stay here again! - TravelnSteve

We stay here every time we stop in NOLA. The location is excellent for walking and biking into the quarter and town, as well as riding the Lafitte bike trail to City Park. Yes, you hear sirens all day and night but this small inconvenience, outweighs the convenience of the location of this well managed, clean, easy to maneuver park, run by friendly staff. My only criticism is that for the price they charge, they should have an outstanding WiFi system. We stayed in premium sites right outside the office building and were never able to connect. - marekapanasewicz
Mar 2018 - $105.00
This park is all about location, several blocks from the French Quarter making it an easy walk or bike ride. However you cannot walk back at night (the park even advises against it) due to security - take a cab, Uber or Lyft back. The park itself is fine but not outstanding. The sites are long, wide and reasonably spaced. The roadway is wide and easy to navigate. There is a bit grass for each site and a couple of small common areas of grass but no dog park and a scarcity of trees and fire plugs. A big disappointment is that WiFi is in common areas only - crazy for such a small park. The laundry is good and clean with 3W and 3D. The bathrooms and showers are OK but could be nicer and certainly could be cleaner. The grounds are very clean with curbside trash collection throughout the day. The pool is cold (Feb.) but the hot tub was hot although it had mediocre jets. Security is good: it is fully walled and the front entrance is gated with a code. You are basically parked in a walled compound within the city. Hookups are good including cable but the sewer in our site was far away and required pulling up before leaving. All sites are back-in with ample room for parking a car/truck. Police, fire and ambulance sirens run nearly continuously throughout the night and day as does I20 - bring ear plugs! There is a nice fitness center. The staff is very friendly and most helpful. We would recommend this park for visiting the FQ but don't expect a luxury resort. You are paying mainly for the location and security. - MNroadie

It appears there is new construction just outside the gate, new homes or apartments. Very clean, great location!!! Lots were close to each other, some offered shade. Site surface was pavers and featured a patio. I cannot wait to return!!
I love New Orleans. I would definitely stay here every time I'm in town! - Will Box

We selected this RV park for a couple of nights stay in New Orleans. We stayed in town during past visits but this time, we were towing a 25ft trailer. We were told that we could stay without having to unhook. Not so. We had to park our trailer in the overflow lot. Not a problem and we had expert staff help guiding us to the spot. This park appears to be relatively new and undergoing constant upgrades. Do not get spooked by the approach to the park via France Rd which is leading you along industrial wasteland. The park is actually quite nice and has a restaurant onsite. There was a Newell rally in the park and I counted upwards of 20 Newell buses. The spacing is good and you are not sitting on top of your neighbor. They have a mix of pull-through, back-in and pull-in sites and most of them will easily accomodate a 40 footer. There is a large dog park, too. The park offers a shuttle @ $6/person into town at fixed times during the day. We took an Uber @ $15 on our time schedule. The ride to the FQ takes about 15-20 minutes. - Olivia Las Vegas
Apr 2018 - $41.00
As others have said, this is a good spot if you are visiting New Orleans. When it rains, it is a mass of small and large puddles. The road and neighborhood approaching the marine/campground is beyond description, not in a good way. The staff really try to provide good service. The pool needs maintenance and is not heated. The hot tub is above ground and is crowded with four people. Internet and Verizon service was passable, but WiFi did not work. Sites are close and without any trees or shrubs. - Atnt Life Grand
Apr 2018 - $83.00
We stayed two nights. We had a little difficulty finding the place. Far enough away from I-10 that there is no I-10 traffic noise, but there is airplane and train noise. Staff is business like and efficient. Easy to navigate a big rig in the park. The roads and sites are gravel. We had a pull in super site on the water. That was nice. Our site was level. The utilities worked well. The wifi signal was so weak at our site that we couldn't sign on. Verizon signal was okay. We had a problem with the cable and the staff responded right away. The cable has numerous channels that came in clearly. Unlike other campgrounds I've stayed at in the area, I felt safe here. The pull in water site was pricey. I would stay here again, but doubt that I will. - FSUWizard
