Was planning to stay until after Mardi Gras, but after our experience here I'll never come back to New Orleans! There is 1 bathroom & 1 shower together which was nasty! And had no toilet paper ever! The building is falling apart! Had 2 bicycles stolen which were chained to the RV in a matter of 10 days! The walking gate which is supposed to have a code in & out doesn't work! They have cameras that work but he hasn't offered to show the tapes to police! It's very noisy with street racing daily at night right behind the park! I've never been anywhere that I had to be buzzed into & out of the restaurant but it's common here! I will never ever visit New Orleans again! If you plan on coming here you're wasting your money! Lock everything up always & never leave your place unattended! Even in broad open daylight! We camped at Pelican RV Park New Orleans in a Motorhome.

We reserved a site for 3 nights to attend a concert. The website made the place look great and the reviews were fair. Upon arriving we were surprised to find cop cars all over the place outside the gate, but went on and checked in. We were greeted by a very helpful gentleman who helped us find our site. Pulling into the RV Park the road was paved but there was a 90 degree turn that was tight to make to enter the park. The park was gated and had a security fence that went all around the park. The site pads were adequate with 50 amp hookups, sewer and water. We did not stay long enough to observe the conditions of the other facilities. However once we started getting set up we started noticing people who appeared to be doing drugs. My wife and brother-in-law took our dogs out to pee... our dogs were on a leash, and another dog attacked our dogs. The other dog was not on a leash and the gentleman who had the dog did nothing to stop this. We at this point had to leave to take our dogs to receive care. (We also at this point left and went to the another park a few miles down the road.). Highly recommend you use google maps to check this place out before checking in and read the reviews. We camped at Pelican RV Park New Orleans in a Motorhome.

First, the owner is a nice man and very helpful, BUT, the RV park itself is a sty...litter and garbage everywhere. Never been to a park this bad. Our site had the water and sewer on one side of the coach and the electric on the other side. No breaker on the box. Had to run the power cord under the coach...and I'm not as young as I used to be. We have a large motor home with a washer/dryer and 3 a/c units. No problem with power. Sewer backed up when I started dumping grey water. The owner was siting someone else nearby and said he would get the plumber in. He said the only problem was too many sites dumping at the same time. It backed up again the next time I used it. The ONE bathroom available has a toilet, sink and one shower stall and I'd only use it if desperate. Fortunately, most people staying there have their own bathrooms. The laundry room is a mess and contains rusty old equipment. Don't even know if it works. Garbage all around. There's a fence around the place and a secured vehicle and pedestrian gate. That's good, because the neighborhood is really bad. One of the contractors staying there told us his boss won't let him work before 7 or after 4 during the week and never on weekends because of the crime. He said you go the wrong way down a street and you could be in trouble. There's a bar down the street that is jumping all night and cars and motorcycles speeding and racing along the street...all night long. The owner also operates a restaurant just outside the perimeter of the campground. It is in great condition and the food is excellent. But, it too has a security door. Why did we stay here...a week? It's conveniently located to I-10 and our friend back home's Dad lives near the city and gave us a grand tour. The best way to deal with crime is to avoid it, and that's what we did. Again the owner is a very nice man, but he apparently operates a number of businesses and owns rental property, so this park is probably an after thought. We camped at Pelican RV Park New Orleans in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We always like to take a bus tour of a new city, but we had our own guide. Visit the US Military Museum. Visit the French Quarter. Eat the food. Sales tax is 10%. Parking fees are ridiculous. A boat ride down the river was $33 plus tax and the parking cost $18.

This was a mobile home park that the new owner are turn into a RV park, some of the hook ups are not where most RVers are use to having them but the new owner are up dating them. Spacious

gravel sites. The nice thing is that it is gated. Will stay there when we go back to New Orleans. We camped at Pelican RV Park New Orleans in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This RV park is a former mobile home park. There are a few sites occupied with long-term local workers. There are no picnic tables or a playground here - just RV sites. Site driveways are concrete runners (pavers) and gravel. Very large (25' x 100') RV sites. My site was high & dry even after a record-breaking 3" of heavy rain! I felt safe and secure here as the park is completely fenced and has a pass-coded gated entrance. It was well lighted with high profile street lighting. The electric was very good, city water & sewer - all easy to hook-up to. As this park is in East New Orleans, it is located in a business district. I-10 highway traffic noise is somewhat noticeable. The RV Park staff is excellent to work with. Very good communications & eager to help. Pelican RV Park is situated at the Southwest corner of the intersection of U. S. Hwy. 90 (also known as Chef Menteur Highway) and Downman Road. It is approximately 5 miles east of the French Quarter. Big rigs should disconnect your towed as you have to make a sharp turn to enter the park via the pass-coded gated entrance. There is PLENTY of room in the adjacent parking lot to disconnect. When traveling to New Orleans, we will definitely stay here again! We camped at Pelican RV Park New Orleans in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Across the street is Banner Chevrolet dealership. A new Super Wal-Mart just 1 mile to the west opened this past August.

Having stayed in New Orleans several times, what I like about this park is its close proximity (2 minute walk) to the bus stop that takes you to the French Quarter, service to downtown New Orleans and the central business district. Driving a car and trying to find a place to park in the central city (French Quarter, central business district, downtown) is very difficult. The New Orleans Transit Authority (city bus/trolley) is a much better way of getting around. The bus service is very good. Buses run about every 15 to 20 minutes to the French Quarter, etc. Even easier, Google has now incorporated bus routes and scheduling on Google Maps. Put your starting point as the address of the RV Park and your destination address as the French Quarter, and Ta-da it gives you the route number and you can choose your departure time. Easy!
