The only positive is it's an easy drive into new Orleans. The negatives. Stayed 3 nights and bathrooms always disgusting even after just being cleaned. The free campground pool and bathrooms very dirty. The wave pool in the State park that you pay for was covered in black algae on the bottom of pool. Doesn't make sense because they close it Mon thru wed for cleaning and maintenance??? Office staff not friendly and over willing to give out info on area. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice spacious sites. Some have wooden patios, nice touch worth calling to make sure you pick one. We stayed Sat. into Sun. and had plenty of unoccupied sites around us. Beware that the ferry everyone talks about stops fairly early on weekends, despite the fact that the parking is pricier. Plus you have to drive just about as far to catch the ferry as into the city. Needless to say we drove in, found street parking near the FQ, and only had to pay until 7pm since meters are free afterwards daily and all day Sunday. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The attendant invited us to use the free laundry facilities. Free!?! We didn't, but could be a really convenient perk if the laundry is good and clean.

Overall Rating:

Stayed 3 days in a 43' motorhome to visit downtown and French Quarter. Bayou Segnette SP is across the Mississippi in Westwego aprox. 12 mi. from downtown. Taking I-10 to Hwy 90W BUS to Drake Rd. will get you into Park. Normal weekday driving is heavy but much better on weekend. Smooth check-in at ranger station/office. Very helpful with local area info. The CG is at the back and interior roads are paved. The sites are angled, back-in with W/E only. Dump station is at entrance to CG. All sites are level with partial shade with convenient secure garbage cans. There is a wave pool that campers can use - office gives you blue band to access pool. No need to drive into downtown New Orleans. You can take the Ferry at Algiers Point Terminal (9 mi) for $2 each way (Seniors $1) and you have safe parking at pier for $5 weekdays, $10 weekends. Ferry run every 30 min till late at night and drops you off at Canal St. Ferry ride is aprox. 10 minutes. If you prefer you can drive and park downtown. We've stayed at parks in downtown area before and wanted to try this lower price alternative. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

This is my third stay in less than a year. Good place to set up as a base camp for exploring the surrounding area. My suggestion is to pick a site that has a wooden deck. Otherwise, I am in agreement with other reviews that are rated at very good or higher. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The campground was OK - but I was expecting more. Upon arrival, the entrance gate was raised up, and we proceeded through. There was a piece of plastic sticking out from the raised gate, and it scratched our 5th wheel along the entire side. Needless to say we were extremely unhappy. We reported it to the park manager, who was cordial, but made no commitment to cover the repair. We took pictures and will proceed with a claim. The campground had a lot of standing water which got worse on the days it rained. Also, the posts with the campsite numbers were poorly placed, making it very hard to back into our site. The campground was pretty with lots of trees and shrubs. Weekends were definitely crowded. There was average space between sites. We were able to get satellite and plenty of OTA channels. AT&T service was dismal, even with a mobile hotspot and antenna. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a great location for camping if you want to visit New Orleans. From the campground, drive 20 minutes to Algiers Point, park for $5, and take the ferry across the river to the French Quarter. It couldn't be easier. Don't miss the WW II Museum and all the great restaurants. Enjoyed touring Lafayette Cemetery and the Garden District - such beautiful historic homes.

Used this park as a home base for visiting New Orleans for several days. Nice clean park and fairly normal for what we see and expect with a state park. Only complaints are that the water hydrant at the dump station had very little flow and the killer mosquitos at dusk. Convenient to New Orleans. As others suggest, use the Algiers ferry to get to the city and get a transit pass from RTA to ride street cars and busses. The zoo is nice and has free parking. After the zoo, we took a bus to the French Quarter area and took the streetcar back. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

If you would like to enjoy the look and feel of Louisiana Wetlands but in a civilized setting, Bayou Segnette is for you. The park is well groomed and the sites are arranged where you are not on top of your neighbor. From the front gate you are not far from shopping and restaurants. If you insist you want to visit New Orleans, you are not too far from that either. We live only two hours from The Crescent City but avoid it. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Great value and only 12 miles from French Quarter. The paved, back in sites are large, with deck, picnic table, grill and fire ring. Showers a little small but are thoroughly cleaned daily. We don't fish, but fishing and boating are outstanding. Large power boats can be a little noisy during the day, but nights by the fire are peaceful. I love this campground and the surrounding area. Great seafood and fried chicken a few miles away. Seasonal pool was closed was the only down side. Definitely pet and big rig friendly but no sewer so you have use dump station. Tips for other Campers:

It's New Orleans. You are on the water to boat and fish. Seafood market and bayou tour right next door. 12 miles to casino, aquarium, steam boat, hundreds of restaurants, bars, shopping. 15 miles to French Quarter and the Superdome. If you can't find something to do, check your pulse. And if you want to sit under a starry sky, by the fire, you are there.

Was pleased with the park overall. Some of the sites are double pad sites, which ours was. Thankfully we were in a tent. Which means 2 campers are together, slides and awning won't be able to be deployed. Had new picnic tables thru out the park. We thought they were a little short. Fire ring and standing cooking grate on each site. Electric and Water easy access at sites. Dump station is close to campground. They do not sell firewood at the campground. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Tent.

I can see how it would be possible to have a great stay here. Unfortunately, mine was terrible. My site was just wide enough for my travel trailer, with my side windows and back window all facing neighbors. My site was filled with trash when I arrived. Not just a little trash. It looked like someone had dumped a garbage can all over my site. It was disgusting. Behind my site was some sort of construction site that made noise all day, every day. They shut off the water in the middle of the day without warning. I left early. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This turned out to be a nice state park campground and a good place for our home base while visiting New Orleans. It is a 30 minute drive to the French Quarter, but it was a pretty easy drive except for the last mile or so in New Orleans. You can take the ferry as well to save on some parking costs and traffic. The campground is pretty big, and the sites (all back-ins) are quite large. Our site was fantastic, with lots of space and privacy. Strangely, some of the other sites we saw had their camping space on the wrong side of the RV. There are enough roads and sidewalks that we were able to do some long walks with our dog, but there aren't really any trails. Our Verizon hotspot worked quite well, but our AT&T phones usually had 1-2 bars of 4G (no LTE) and often had no service at all. The campground WiFi was too slow to be useful. Since there's no sewer, we used the campground showers. The water was hot but the bath houses were cold inside. Two of the three men's showers in the closest bath house had no temperature control and the water was far too hot to shower in. The entrance/pay booth for the campground is elevated (presumably in case of flooding) and the ramp to check in there was so steep that our tow bar between our motorhome and car dragged and scraped on our way up and down. There's no way to avoid that ramp. There are plenty of stores nearby but they all seemed pretty run down, and it was hard to find any restaurants in the area that weren't a big national chain. Despite all these nitpicks, this is a great looking, clean campground with huge sites and pretty good convenience to New Orleans. We'll probably stay here again if we visit the area in the future. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I reviewed this last March - we liked it then and still do. I just wanted to add some details since our previous stay was so short. The main advantages for us are the large spacious sites, and there are places to ride a bike. The park rangers patrol but they do not harass you. The campground is secure. The main entrance is well-marked on Bus 90 (Westbank Expressway) but the after-hours entrance is a little tricky since it is a small, poorly lit road. If you are on the Westbank, turn south on Segnette Blvd at the Alario Center and it is almost all the way to LaPalco on the left. If you are on Lapalco, go north on Segnette (there is not a light so watch for it) then take a hard right. We were so happy with the laundry the last time (March 2017) but this time the machine did not fill all the way and it was hot water even with the cold selected. The dump station is not that great but it was operational. We will definitely stay here again when visiting our friends, there is nothing else reasonable in the area. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

I highly recommend the Algiers Ferry, it is a little twisty-turny to get there but cheap, clean, friendly, fast. Better than paying for parking in the Quarter or hoping to find street parking. Call first. There is a seafood market just east on the Westbank where the fishermen bring their catch every day - very fresh and reasonably priced. I don't recall the name - maybe Wade's?

Overall Rating:

We really enjoyed this campground. It makes a perfect base for visiting New Orleans and environs. Do make note of the directions to the park on the park web site. We blindly followed Google Maps and ended up at a locked gate. If arriving during the day, you will want to enter off of Business US90/Westbank Expressway. If arriving after hours, there is an alternative entrance and I would check with the park ahead of time. When arriving, they want you to pull into the right lane and wait for them to open the gate, then pull up to the right and walk into the office. The lady that checked us in could use a short course in customer service, but she got the job done. They do give you a handout with a lot of helpful information -- a very nice touch. The sites are pleasant and very well-spaced. It is nice and quiet and dark at night, which we loved. It is an urban park, so there is the background of road noise, but tolerable. There also seems to be some raceway close by, but we only heard that infrequently. Most of the time we were gone out exploring. The dump station was fully operational during our visit, despite some earlier reviews. There seem to be a number of feral cats in the park that need some control. There are a few short, boardwalk trails and some nice areas for biking in the park. The few trees are short, so we had no problem getting DirecTV satellite. We had strong Verizon data and voice. There is a park WiFi but, as is almost always the case, it was very, very slow to nonexistent. We really enjoyed our stay at this park and will stay again. They also have cabins for rent that it would make it convenient to have non-RV friends stay to visit New Orleans. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

It is less than a 30 minute drive to the French Quarter. A fun alternative is to drive about 20 minutes to the Algiers Ferry and take it across to near the French Quarter. It will cost you $5 to park for the day and $2 per person for the ferry (no change given). There is a great bike trail on both sides of the Mississippi river.
