The campground was OK - but I was expecting more. Upon arrival, the entrance gate was raised up, and we proceeded through. There was a piece of plastic sticking out from the raised gate, and it scratched our 5th wheel along the entire side. Needless to say we were extremely unhappy. We reported it to the park manager, who was cordial, but made no commitment to cover the repair. We took pictures and will proceed with a claim. The campground had a lot of standing water which got worse on the days it rained. Also, the posts with the campsite numbers were poorly placed, making it very hard to back into our site. The campground was pretty with lots of trees and shrubs. Weekends were definitely crowded. There was average space between sites. We were able to get satellite and plenty of OTA channels. AT&T service was dismal, even with a mobile hotspot and antenna. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a great location for camping if you want to visit New Orleans. From the campground, drive 20 minutes to Algiers Point, park for $5, and take the ferry across the river to the French Quarter. It couldn't be easier. Don't miss the WW II Museum and all the great restaurants. Enjoyed touring Lafayette Cemetery and the Garden District - such beautiful historic homes.

Used this park as a home base for visiting New Orleans for several days. Nice clean park and fairly normal for what we see and expect with a state park. Only complaints are that the water hydrant at the dump station had very little flow and the killer mosquitos at dusk. Convenient to New Orleans. As others suggest, use the Algiers ferry to get to the city and get a transit pass from RTA to ride street cars and busses. The zoo is nice and has free parking. After the zoo, we took a bus to the French Quarter area and took the streetcar back. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

If you would like to enjoy the look and feel of Louisiana Wetlands but in a civilized setting, Bayou Segnette is for you. The park is well groomed and the sites are arranged where you are not on top of your neighbor. From the front gate you are not far from shopping and restaurants. If you insist you want to visit New Orleans, you are not too far from that either. We live only two hours from The Crescent City but avoid it. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Great value and only 12 miles from French Quarter. The paved, back in sites are large, with deck, picnic table, grill and fire ring. Showers a little small but are thoroughly cleaned daily. We don't fish, but fishing and boating are outstanding. Large power boats can be a little noisy during the day, but nights by the fire are peaceful. I love this campground and the surrounding area. Great seafood and fried chicken a few miles away. Seasonal pool was closed was the only down side. Definitely pet and big rig friendly but no sewer so you have use dump station. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It's New Orleans. You are on the water to boat and fish. Seafood market and bayou tour right next door. 12 miles to casino, aquarium, steam boat, hundreds of restaurants, bars, shopping. 15 miles to French Quarter and the Superdome. If you can't find something to do, check your pulse. And if you want to sit under a starry sky, by the fire, you are there.

Overall Rating:

This turned out to be a nice state park campground and a good place for our home base while visiting New Orleans. It is a 30 minute drive to the French Quarter, but it was a pretty easy drive except for the last mile or so in New Orleans. You can take the ferry as well to save on some parking costs and traffic. The campground is pretty big, and the sites (all back-ins) are quite large. Our site was fantastic, with lots of space and privacy. Strangely, some of the other sites we saw had their camping space on the wrong side of the RV. There are enough roads and sidewalks that we were able to do some long walks with our dog, but there aren't really any trails. Our Verizon hotspot worked quite well, but our AT&T phones usually had 1-2 bars of 4G (no LTE) and often had no service at all. The campground WiFi was too slow to be useful. Since there's no sewer, we used the campground showers. The water was hot but the bath houses were cold inside. Two of the three men's showers in the closest bath house had no temperature control and the water was far too hot to shower in. The entrance/pay booth for the campground is elevated (presumably in case of flooding) and the ramp to check in there was so steep that our tow bar between our motorhome and car dragged and scraped on our way up and down. There's no way to avoid that ramp. There are plenty of stores nearby but they all seemed pretty run down, and it was hard to find any restaurants in the area that weren't a big national chain. Despite all these nitpicks, this is a great looking, clean campground with huge sites and pretty good convenience to New Orleans. We'll probably stay here again if we visit the area in the future. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I reviewed this last March - we liked it then and still do. I just wanted to add some details since our previous stay was so short. The main advantages for us are the large spacious sites, and there are places to ride a bike. The park rangers patrol but they do not harass you. The campground is secure. The main entrance is well-marked on Bus 90 (Westbank Expressway) but the after-hours entrance is a little tricky since it is a small, poorly lit road. If you are on the Westbank, turn south on Segnette Blvd at the Alario Center and it is almost all the way to LaPalco on the left. If you are on Lapalco, go north on Segnette (there is not a light so watch for it) then take a hard right. We were so happy with the laundry the last time (March 2017) but this time the machine did not fill all the way and it was hot water even with the cold selected. The dump station is not that great but it was operational. We will definitely stay here again when visiting our friends, there is nothing else reasonable in the area. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

I highly recommend the Algiers Ferry, it is a little twisty-turny to get there but cheap, clean, friendly, fast. Better than paying for parking in the Quarter or hoping to find street parking. Call first. There is a seafood market just east on the Westbank where the fishermen bring their catch every day - very fresh and reasonably priced. I don't recall the name - maybe Wade's?

This was a very nice campground. Sites are very large and level with asphalt pads. The bathrooms were neat and clean. There are two washers and dryers in each of the two bathhouses that are free (no cost) that worked just fine. The Wifi was poor. It just wouldn't connect. And the mosquitos were fierce. The park appears to have been built first, then the campground was added. There is no place to pull over to stop and go into the office. A sign telling you where to park would be very helpful. We registered online for site C1055. There is no 1055. We parked in 55 then called the office to be sure we were in the right place. The clerk chastised us for not registering first and told us to come back to the office (don't let functionality get in the way of the rules). Overall, though, this was a very nice campground and we would camp here again. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette is close to our son and his family so we will continue to use it. However, it is getting dated and in need of maintenance. The bathhouse is getting run down; urinals missing from the wall, shower and vanity facets that don't work and shower doors that don't close or latch. A single dump station for a park this size and with not site sewer hookups is a traffic jam waiting to happen, especially on Monday morning. Park rules state that no vehicle parking on the grass. But we found sites with parties going on and several vehicles parked on the site as well as along the side of the road. Looks like not only maintenance but overall pride in the facility has declined. We were visiting friends in the area so we actually did not spend much time here. But the campground is very nice: plenty of space, level site, covered trash every few sites, free laundry (and it was nice!), decent wifi and cell phone coverage (AT&T). They contacted us a few weeks ahead to tell us our reserved site was unsafe due to a sink hole and moved us to a nearby site. Effortless on our part, they took care of everything . We arrived 4 minutes after the office closed and while we were reading the sign for instructions, the ranger opened the window and helped us out with a big smile. Once you are inside the park, the campground would be hard to find without directions - past the marina, under LaPalco then follow the levee. I asked what was beyond our camp site and was assured it was all woods, no water. But there was a narrow bayou back there and after it rained, a lot of mosquitoes. But that is to be expected. I would definitely stay there again and try to spend more time enjoying the campground. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sites are paved, plenty long, and hook ups in good location. Lots of marshy land around the park, so it can be damp. We used this location to visit New Orleans, a little far out, but traffic not bad if you wait until after rush hour. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visited New Orleans twice during our stay. Parking was convenient and not too costly. Day 1 took city bus tour at cost of $39 per person. It was on and off, so you could get off and sightsee and then catch next bus. Day 2 we visited WWII museum. Our cost was $22 each, with me being a veteran. They really were the "Greatest Generation"....be sure to watch the movie narrated by Tom Hanks.

I love how close this park is to New Orleans. Door to door to the French quarter in 20 minutes. Even with that proximity, it's easy to get to and traffic is not bad. Westwego itself (the city it's located in) is not all that nice but there's plenty of amenities there. Groceries, stores etc. If you want to visit NO and don't want to pay over $100/night for an RV park, this is a great choice. Site accessibility (Easy to get to but watch out for some map directions being wrong. Level sites) - 4. Campground location (Awesome location. Close to NO but away from the traffic) - 5. Nearby amenities (Everything you could want) - 5. Site Privacy (Spacious sites, not a lot of privacy) - 3. Campground amenities (Free laundry, trash cans at every site) - 4. Dog friendly (Good walking loops and plenty of space) - 4. Activities (New Orleans!) - 5. Cost ($21/night for 50 amp W/E) - 4. Staff friendliness (Very nice and helpful staff) - 5. Connectivity (Decent signal w/out a booster for both ATT and Verizon with good download speeds. Great OTA) - 5. Total rating = 4.4. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

We had an excellent stay at Bayou Segnette State Park. The staff was friendly (helped us get checked in early even though the site we reserved online was still taken). The sites were large with a picnic table, firepit and a grill. Restrooms were clean, free showers, nice hot water. The park itself was quiet and beautiful while being just 30 mins outside the hustle and bustle of New Orleans. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

We like this park for its paved roads and sites, some of which have wood decks. Some sites are more spacious than others but they all have good-sized pads & patios. Unfortunately the grounds and facilities are looking neglected. There is litter scattered around the walkways and wooded areas. The wifi used to work well, but we found it basically useless on this visit, very frustrating. We did not see much of the staff, and rules did not appear to be enforced - cars on grass, unattended fires, noise, quiet hours. There is a lot of water nearby, so come prepared for mosquitoes in the evening. In spite of this, it is still a good place to stay when visiting NO. Was OK for the area. Not a big fan of the area for camping. Hot and humid for me. Qualifications aside, the campground was nice. It was clean, had power for A/C, and was very convenient to downtown NOLA. We arrived late night and had to go in the back way after-hours entrance, but it was fine. Site was level side-to-side and we had enough room to stretch out. We backed up to a bayou and that was nice. There were a lot of bugs, however.
