This crowded campground exists primarily for children -- with a pool and lots of activities -- and motor-oriented adults with ATV parking and access. Cost is demand driven; our site went from $40 to $48 depending on date. Using your air conditioning is an extra $2/day. The walking path we tried was not well maintained. Exit SR 6 at Pond Road. Ignore any computer instructions that have another route (particularly via Prides Loop; you will end up in the pond). We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great smoked ribs at Spring Creek BBQ in Monson. Elliotsville Road leading to the Little Wilson Falls hike is found north of Monson, not in town at the post office as some directions indicate. The hike is mild to moderate, intersects the Appalachian Trail, and the waterfall is pretty. The last mile of the road in to the hiking site is rough.

We stayed here based on the reviews. Previously we had stayed right in Greenville. I don't think the reviews reflect the reality at this campground. Not to say it's bad, but it is just OK. Our 50' site barely fit our 45' motorhome. It was really just a very small 45' site. We had to ark across the street or else loose our entire side yard. Wifi was very poor to non existent. Our site was nicely shaded and it had a picnic table. The campground should put a sign on Pond road prior to and not after the entrance. You are coming down a hill and their sign is hidden behind trees until it is too late to make the turn. With no where to turn around we had to unhook at the farm just beyond. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When driving on Pond road look ahead for a large farm. When you first see it slow down as the entrance to the campground will be at the tree line on your left. Grandkids loved renting a boat from the Birches and seeing Moosehead Lake. They also enjoyed the short hike to the B 52 crash site on Elephant Mountain.

The sites at this campground are huge - the largest we have encountered. Shaded sites are easy back in. They are working on developing ATV and walking trails. The mosquitos are bad so bring your bug spray. Very family friendly with lots of activities on the weekends. We would stay here again. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The Old Canadian Scenic Drive was quite interesting - however Maine's roads are not very smooth so be prepared for lots of bumping.

Very nice park. Very well maintained with large gorgeous treed sites. The only issue with our site was there is a limited number of 50 AMP sites so we could not get 50 AMP site and had to make due with a 30 AMP site. Good facilities. Beautiful pool and grounds. Great folks working in the office. The park has access to a multitude of ATV trails so lots of ATVs around, but everyone was well behaved. They had movie nights for the children. Only thing missing was a dog park. Would definitely stay there again. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't rely on your Garmin to get to Pond Rd. Our RV 760LMT set to motorhome wanted to send us across a non existent bridge on Pride's Loop to Pond Rd. Luckily it was a not a dead end and looped back to the main road. There are signs pointing to Balsam Woods. Pond Rd is before you go over the small bridge.

Excess for a 40' fifth wheel was nice, no low hanging branches and good roads. Very large sites, was impressed with the size of them. Only a handful will fit a big rig, but those are nice. Pool is ok, not sure if it's heated, didn't really feel like it. Very clean quiet campground. Will definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed our stay at this park. It was clean and quiet. Our sites were gravel and level. All utilities were great. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Nice amenities, especially for such a remote area. WiFi service is the best we've had in a campground. Super clean bathrooms. Nice arcade with a pool table. Clean laundry room. We will stay here again if in the area. If you want to see a beautiful sight, get up before dawn and look at the sky. It's so dark that it looks like you can reach up and touch the stars. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautifully clean, wonderful setting in the Maine woods near Moosehead Lake. Lots of access to ATV roads. Owner was extremely pleasant, helpful and practical. Lives on site with family. Lots of ATV storage area. Will go again sometime. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice park, a little more rustic than most of the ones we go to. A lot of seasonals but, they’re very friendly and sites are well kept. Long walk to the restrooms, they do have some port-a-potties in the park (not using them). Did a moose safari with Chris Young from Young’s Guide Service, highly recommend that. Overall Rating:

This attractive park has good gravel interior roads and sites that are generous, level and well-graveled. Many of the sites feel quite private with trees and undergrowth screening the sides. The utilities are good including the Wi-Fi and cable. Trails, pool, game room and other activities are available. There is no AT&T phone or data service in the area. The park is popular with families, ATV riders and seasonal visitors but still offers a quiet woodsy atmosphere. We would stay here again. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wonderful camp ground. Sites are large and well spaced out. Even though there was heavy rain for the first day we were here, the roads and sites did not get muddy. All hook ups worked flawlessly. This camp ground is only about 30 minutes from Moosehead Lake for some great fishing. We would not hesitate to return. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rate includes taxes and was for a non sewer site, the pump out was $10. Sewer sites are available but were reserved. They plan to make more sites with sewer. The young couple who manage the CG are very friendly and accommodating. Wi-Fi did not extend to our site. Verizon signal was good. Sites very from fairly open in the front to nearly private towards the rear in trees and they are level. We will visit again. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

The park is really nice and the owners are friendly. The only drawback is on the pull through was next to the basketball court and the bouncing of the basket backboard was ANNOYING. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

We loved this place so much that we booked it again for Memorial Day Weekend 2011. The young couple who own the campground work very hard to ensure that everyone is happy! Movie nights, ice cream socials, they do a great job. I would recommend this campground highly We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Motorhome.
