This park is very unusual in that you select your own site, then go back to the office to tell them where you are located. They have a full range of sites from primitive to full hookup pull-throughs. The park was very full during our visit even though it was late in the season (they close on Columbus Day. I would rate our site as average - narrow drive, on a slope (not level), and needing to be mowed. The entrance to Acadia National Park (the main local attraction) is about 4 miles away. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice park close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We would rate this a 10 but there are some odd things about this campground. They only take cash, no advance registration causing a scramble for a good site, "signs signs everywhere signs", the unwritten no dog alone in the RV rule, and last the 25 cent showers. None of these things would stop us from staying there again. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Bike the carriage trails. They are great. Start with a trip around Eagle Lake which is 5-6 miles to get familiar with the trail system.

This is a very large property and in many ways resembles a state park. They do not take reservations or credit cards, or assign sites. About ½ the sites have no hook-ups, ¼ are w/e only and ¼ FHU. There are only a few 50 amp sites, but only cost $2 extra per day. Because of the reservation issue, we tried to arrive early, but traffic and weather got us there mid-afternoon, but there were sites available. Check in staff was friendly and helpful. They provided us a map and indicated the sites that were open. We selected one of two that appeared most level. The next day we moved to a 50 amp site that was more level. We were not in the ocean view area, but we checked it out and where we were was fine. The interior roads are mostly gravel as are the sites. There area in between the sites is grass/gravel and quite uneven. The utilities were located mid-site and convenient to where we had to be to be level. There was good water pressure; the voltage was occasionally low down to 115v. There was no cable TV and just a few antenna stations, but the Wi-Fi was very good. Most of the sites in my area had a tree. the scenery was state park like; a field of wild flowers in front and a row of forested back-in sites in the rear. This was a very good camping experience, and now that I know how there system works, would not hesitate to return. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Acadia NP is something to behold, a must see. Too many attractions in the park to list. Bar Harbor was neat, but on a cool, rainy, Wednesday in Sept was very, very busy.

We stayed 9 nights. Our first night we spent in a nice wooded site with water and electric. The bathroom and showers were very clean. The next day we moved to a site with full hookup. These sites are very close together. Your neighbor's fire ring will be right under your window. There is a nice pool and playground area. They don't take reservations so if you have full hookup be prepared to be stalked the day you are leaving. We had a man pile his stuff on our picnic table and stand in front of our rv the whole time we were packing up. The people in the office and the people that maintain the campground are outstanding. Friendly and very helpful. A convenient shuttle picks you up at the campground and takes you all around the island for free. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a heavily wooded park that has a real state park feel to it. We opted for a back-in site because of the space and privacy it afforded. It turned out to be a bit far from the restrooms, but we were quite happy with the restrooms. They were exceptionally clean for a park with this many occupants. The park was peaceful and quiet. No traffic noise and no noisy neighbors. The utilities worked well. We also liked that we were able to select our own site. We plan to return to this park. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Acadia National Park is breathtakingly beautiful. There are many amazing hiking and biking opportunities. Cadillac Mountain is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard. Apparently, the view is spectacular on a clear day. We went on a foggy day and still enjoyed the winding road up (having unhooked our trailer). I don't think they allow RV's on this mountain road.

They are ubusual in that they do not take reservations. Upon entering the park they give you a map and let you pick any available site. You can change to another site as it becomes available and every day some selected better sites. There are about 300 sites, some in heavy woods, some with a view to the ocean and some similar to a paved parking lot. Only about 70 sites have full hookups and not all those have 50 amp service. There are about 50 sites that are pull through. About 100 sites have water and electric only. Clean up crews were out often cleaning the restrooms, laundry and firepits and sites. The wifi worked well almost all the time. Verizon worked well. There is a large well equipped playground for the kids. There are walking tails around the campground including one called "dog walk". We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Acadial Park is a must. Only a few miles to downtown Bar Harbor. Many interesting drives in area. There are several lobster places to either eat in or take out on the road back to Trenton.

We always have CG reservations when we travel so we were nervous about planning a full week at a CG that doesn't take reservations. Luckily that wasn't a problem in mid-September. There is lots of turnover at this CG and probably always a site available but not necessarily the type of hookups you may want. We thought the 50amp sites were not at all scenic, so we went with 30amp/water/sewer which was fine. Full hookup pull-through sites were very popular and that section was almost always full so we would recommend getting there around 9-10am as folks are leaving. Other sections in the CG had lots of availability. No seasonals that we could see. This campground is nothing special but it had everything we needed, reasonable prices, and is very convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. We loved that the Island Explorer (a free bus that runs throughout Acadia NP and Bar Harbor) had a frequent stop at the CG. The perimeter roads were good, but the interior roads were tight for 5th wheels. We thought Site B7 was one of the nicest, wide pull-through sites at the CG. We were in C7, and that site was good too. The few "ocean view" sites were quite close together and frankly the view is pretty far out there. The laundry facility was clean, large, and only $1 for wash and $1 for dry. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Avoid the traffic and parking headaches in Acadia NP and Bar Harbor and use the free Island Explorer bus. This is a great service sponsored in part by LL Bean and rider donations. We loved it, and it has frequent stops right at the CG entrance. We enjoyed dinner at Smokey's Lobster just north of the Trenton bridge. Great menu, reasonably priced and some indoor seating.

Rate of $40.00 per night is for full hookups, no discount offered, payment is cash or check only - no credit/debit cards. There is an ATM in the lobby. All previous reviews appear accurate. Sites vary throughout the campground, many are in an alcove, heavily shaded and private that would typically be found in a state park. Our site and patio area was gravel, on an incline with a splattering of grass around and open to the sky, no shade, easy access for satellite dish. Hookups were on the left side of the RV and worked as intended. Each site had a picnic table and fire ring. Verizon and T Mobile had a weak signal, Sprint a bit better. Free scheduled shuttle to surrounding area and downtown. Did not use or checkout bathrooms/showers or local WIFI. All employees were very friendly and eager to help with directions and suggestions. Fair value for area, we would stay here again. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Well established large CG with easy access. Sites tend to the small side. Staff is exceptionally friendly. Restrooms and showers are extremely small, they seem to date from the 60's. A good value for the area. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a big and busy campground that can handle the pressure. I was amazed that such a busy campground could keep bathhouses clean and everything functional. Everything worked as expected or better. You can't go too far wrong here. Most of the previous comments are still valid. I'm just updating. We found a private spot that we liked just fine and could have settled in for a week or more. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

They don't take reservations, and they don't accept credit cards. We called ahead to get an idea if there would be a site available. It is an interesting situation, much like in the past in the National Parks: arrive, go find a site, put something on that site, then go register. We got here at 9:30 am, and it was already "a chase" with people looking for a site. Once in, you can change sites, so that "chase" happens most mornings. Very wooded, but we were able to find an opening to get satellite TV. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a shuttle bus that picks up at the entrance to this park - nice, because finding a place to park in Bar Harbor is a real pain. This is the closest park to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, and reasonably priced for the area. Boat trips out of Bar Harbor are interesting. Great bike paths (on the carriage roads) in Acadia! A Walmart in Ellsworth (on your way in or out).

This park has great access to Bar Harbor, Trenton and Ellsworth. There was a shuttle available although we did not use it. A very fair price for the area. Campground is large. Sites are average. There are only 6 coveted sites that are "water view", but not waterfront, and they cost extra. You have to claim your site by marking it with a sign or some other materials you can leave on the site and hope someone doesn't come move it before you can check in. Bring cash or your grandma's checkbook to pay. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Check in was easy. No reservations allowed so we felt uneasy arriving on a holiday weekend without a reservation but we didn't have a problem finding a good spot. Very reasonable price. Facilities are clean and playground is modern. Pool was heated and restrooms were dated looking but always clean and neat. Out site was perfectly level without any adjustment needed.
