Originally reserved for 5 nights, but we loved it so much we made it a week! The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The RV sites all backed up to a large grassy field. Full hookups at all sites. Each site was spacious enough not to be crammed in. Many trees around sites. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

They are also outfitters for the Saco River. They rent kayaks, canoes and tubes and will shuttle upstream for a gentle paddle back to the campground. So convenient.

Rate based on 2 month stay. My wife and I have been RVing all over the country for the last year and this is, by far, the friendliest campground we've stayed at. It is a little gem and a great little campground with tent sites as well as RV spaces. The park is always kept immaculately clean. The spaces are big, level and quite private. The common grounds are always well maintained and manicured. The restroom and showers are very clean and neat. It has a small store in the office, a laundry facility, a game room for kids and plenty of outdoor games that you can use at any time. There is also a very large open area (very well maintained) to run and play in. They are right on the Saco River and there is access to the river from the park. Additionally, they will run you up the river if you would like to go canoeing or tubing, and they have the canoes and tubes to rent right on site for a reasonable fee. Water and WIFI are really good and over the air TV is available there.

The best part though are the owners. They are just great. I can't say enough nice things about them. They help with your setup, keep your space mowed (did I mention the RV spaces are all grass, not gravel), and bend over backwards to help everyone staying there. They truly make it feel like a 'family' campground. They definitely made us feel very welcome.

I would highly recommend this park for anyone wanting to stay a day, week, month or longer. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Motorhome.

Rate is based on memory (so may be off). Nice privately owned and managed campground. Owners are on site, friendly and ensure everything runs smoothly. This is not the place if you don't like observing quiet hours or need modern resort facilities (no pools or arcades). Park is well laid out, has adequate spacing between sites and all sites back to a real large common area (probably 200'x150' or so). They rent kayaks and canoes and provide river shuttle service. They have a small store and game room, nothing fancy though.

Roads and sites are packed gravel and fairly level. Water, sewer, electric, and Wi-Fi worked fine. If we were returning to the area, we would definitely stay here again. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Fifth Wheel.

ALERT: Probably the worst night we have ever experienced in over 20 years of camping. We were there with a large group of friends. We rented 90% of the campground. We were all professionals , married with small children.. From the time we pulled in the harassment started. Do yourself a favor, the Maine State Police a favor and don't ever camp there. They were confrontational, rude, eccentric, obscene and scary people. They spyed on us, confronted us for minor issues and just when we were ready to spend our last night there, the owner walked up to our site where we all were sitting around the campfire and screamed obscenities because one of the dogs was loose. ( a black Lab). We tried to calm him but to no avail. It escalated to a confrontation where he spayed us with mace. The "Staties " arrived and they took the "owners" side. It was awful. They wanted to kick us all out at 10:00 p.m. They arrested one of our party as the "sacrificial Lamb' and let the rest of us stay for the night. Nice of them. All charges were dropped after the fact but the memory of a horrible night remains. Oh yeah part of the court sentencing is we could not go back there " for over a Year" Fat chance of that happening! Can't believe this place is still open. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Tent.

In the summer of 2009, we visited many campgrounds looking for a seasonal site that would meet our desired criteria. We were lucky enough to find Shannon's Sanctuary, which was quiet, clean and the sites were good sized to fit our 5th wheel and still have plenty of room. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and we look for to our third season next year. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Fifth Wheel.

From the moment we spoke on the phone, the management here was so friendly. They answered all our questions and were so hospitable. The camp site is nicely maintained. The river is very pretty but there has been so much rain that the beach was under water. The showers were clean and hot. The staff was so friendly. There is a bit of lack of privacy between tent sites, and we had to be very careful not to keep our neighbors up. However, all in all, we felt the site was great ,and we had a wonderful time. They are so sweet and we will come back again and camp by the river...which is a bit more private. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Tent.

If you plan on visiting this campground with a large group of people I recommend finding somewhere else to stay. My husband and I recently stayed with a group of friends and had a horrible experience. The owners were rude, unreasonable, condescending and literally shouted obscenities at us when our group did not immediately get in our tents during their quiet hours. I have never been treated so rudely in my adult life and will never return. The majority of our group left a day early rather than let the owners continue to be confrontational. I am very disappointed. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Tent.

Shannons is truly a sanctuary, it has clean bathrooms and hot clean showers. It is quiet and peaceful and the owners are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place over and over. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Travel Trailer.

On July 25th we checked in at Shannons Sanctuary. Our group consisted of 3 couples and our 5 year old child. We are all avid campers and responsible, respectable adults. We were looking forward to a relaxing trip on the beautiful Saco River. Our trip was anything but relaxing and enjoyable. The owners were confrontational, condescending, rude, and unprofessional to say the least. It appeared that they were trying to cause conflict from the time we pulled in until the time we pulled out. We were harassed, yelled at, spied on and provoked. My 5 year old daughter noticed throughout our stay that the man and woman were sneaking around hiding behind trees watching us. This made her very uneasy. This behavior is creepy and absolutely unacceptable. The bathrooms were dirty and offered only a bottle of lotion on the edge of the sink. No soap. The showers were also disgusting and only open from 7am to 9pm. Many people get up before 7 and like to shower. This is by far the worst camping experience that any of us have ever had. If you are looking for a fun, relaxing, enjoyable camping trip this is not the place for you. We camped at On the Saco Family Campground (formerly Shannon's Saco River Sanctuary in a Tent.
