Rate includes $5 processing fee for making reservations. Had called park directly and was told to use website. A portion of the sites are 1st come. Sites are selected by size and we found ours generous over the length specified. Some sites have electricity for added cost. Camping fee includes access to auto road to Mt. Battie summit. Most are back-in sites in the woods that are on a fair slope and some may have trouble getting level. Some are in an open meadow. Staff at the gate were excellent, View from the summit over Camden Harbor is stunning. Firewood was $7/bundle and supports the free albeit very slow WiFi. Exiting the State Park headed north can be a challenge with the considerable traffic on Rt 1. Our only negative was the cost for a state park site with no services. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice, spacious and somewhat secluded camp sites. Our site was not level which was a bit problematic and OK for us but a larger RV would have had issues fitting in the space. Bathrooms were a 3 to 4 minute walk. The Rangers at the front were very nice & friendly. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

I wish I could give this CG a higher rating but the slope of many of their sites prevents me. We were treated so well by the park staff (they should get a "10" rating) and they worked out the uneven site issue with moving us to another site that fortunately had no last minute reservations, but be careful when booking a site here--the slope may make it incapable of leveling your motorhome (we have a 30' Class A). We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Gravel sites are somewhat level and separated by grass and forest. Each site is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Water and electric only, but dump station was well maintained. Central trash collection site also has a recycle container. Free wifi. Verizon signal very weak. Park is quite except for some intermittent highway traffic on bordering east side highway. Plenty of hiking opportunities. Friendly and helpful park staff. Sites 55 thru 59 are located in an open field and offer satellite access. Nearby site 60 (where I originally stayed) has no satellite because it is totally wooded. However, site 60 is VERY private. OTA detects 4 intermittent, odd channels. Mt. Battie Auto Tour Road in the park is a huge day use attraction. It offers majestic views of Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay. If out-of-state resident, add $10 to nightly cost. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Nearby Rockland (helpful VC, Maine Lighthouse Museum, Farnsworth Museum featuring Andrew Wyeth 2017 exhibit, & the Sail, Power & Steam Museum). Also close-by are Owls Head Transportation Museum and McLoons' Lobster Shack celebrated as one of New England's 38 best restaurants. Olson House, featured in many Wythe paintings, is a bit further. A\Free,all day RV parking in Rockland is behind the Marine Lighthouse Museum and Police Station along the waterfront.

We stayed in the open field at the front of the campground. Sites there are level and sunny in the morning which is nice on September mornings. Park is close to many attractions and excellent restaurants. Camden was having their Windjammer Festival on Labor Day Weekend and there were 18 ships taking part in the festivities. The wifi worked ok and AT&T service is marginal. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camden Hill State Park, Camden, Maine 63 water and electric sites and 40 unserviced sites Cost for out of state with w & e $50 This has always been one of our favorite campgrounds located on a hill one half mile east of the village of Camden. Bathrooms and showers are clean. Sites are in the woods and some are located in a field looking out to the coast. There is a nice drive up to Mt. Battie with beautiful views of the village plus looking out to the islands which is included in the fee. Parking in the village is limited for RV's but the road across from the library heading north has parking on the side of the street. Camden is considered one of the best little villages in Maine and it is. Maine State Parks were always reasonable for camping but in the last three years the cost increase have made them expensive. You can reserve some sites during the summer season but after Labor Day most of the parks become first serve and they use to drop the price of staying there. We were quite shocked when we checked in for a night that the price did not go down after labor day but with w & e and an out of state fee the fee was $50 a night. This is a lot for a state park and now is in the range of the state parks on the west coast. Over the years we have camped here many times heading north to Acadia and Canada and have always enjoyed it but we might have to start looking at some private campgrounds in the area. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautifully wooded park just outside of Camden. Sites have W&E, no sewage, but dump station near by. The sites located among the trees are far from level, in fact we had to use our hydraulic jack to lower the blocks from our tongue jack to lower the tongue enough to level the trailer fore and aft. The larger rigs are located along the sites out of the trees near the ranger station which are more level. Water pressure is high, about 75 psi so a pressure reducer is required. Wi-FI is good but limited to only one appliance so you have to decide which to use: tablet or computer. You are allowed two WI-FI cards per campsite. AT&T is weak. Roads are dirt and are rough. Rangers are friendly and helpful.

We stayed for one week. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very large campground with well-spaced sites. Most are separated by trees, so you are secluded from your neighbors. A few sites are closer together - good for those traveling together. There are 2 large loops and only 2 bath/shower houses. Check the map when making a reservation...some sites are pretty far away. The dump station is very easy to get to, which is a plus. There are several hiking trails, including a multi-use trail that was perfect for a wet day. Park staff was very nice and helpful. Campground is very close to town, but still feels secluded. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

River Ducks Ice Cream was delicious! They do a "state of they day." Be sure to check that...if it is the state you're from, you get free ice cream (1 per family). It is one block off Main St, right next to the footbridge; a great place to relax and enjoy the day!

Facilitywise not much is expected of a state park other than perhaps more spacing between sites. Camden Hills SP is typical. Yes, the interior roads could use a grading, but the condition is not worth deducting a point over.

What is worth the deduction is the outrageous price for a SP with basic W&E facilities. What are the operators thinking?

Lot spacing is spacious with covered/forested exposure. Site surface is dirt, featuring a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A beautiful state park just outside the city. We parked in the open area across from the office. This area is open without trees. These sites are all back-in, but long enough for our tow to be parked in front. They are gravel, spacious, and level with full hookups, 30/50 amp. The park's Wi-Fi was good; our Verizon MiFi also worked very well. There are other sites located within the trees that will serve all sizes of RVs. There are only about 6 sites in the trees that will work for a big rig, so make reservations early if you want one of these sites. Hosts are very friendly and helpful. Campfire wood is available and there is a recycling center near the dumpsters. There is also a dump site if needed. Note: the roadway to the dump site and upper camping is very rough. The auto-route road to Mt. Battie is the same road you use to enter the park. Stay to the right as you enter to register to camp. Park will close for the season on Oct. 19. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Enjoyed this park. The picnic area across Highway 1 is really nice too, and water front. The camping area is at the base of Mount Battie, with access to the top by road or hiking trail. The view is awesome! We stayed 3 nights. Our site (45) had water and electric only, though many sites have none. Our site was separated from others by trees and shrubs. It was rated as medium size, for up to 25' trailer, but would easily have accommodated a 30' with plenty of room for a tow vehicle to park. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This CG, in Camden Hills SP is excellent if you like privacy. It is heavily treed and the sites widely spaced. There are few pull throughs and some of the back ins can be tight. There are places for big rigs in an adjoining field. Our site was not very level and I don't think they any full service sites. Those are the negatives. The positives: you are five miles from Camden, your entrance to the park is included in your fee, and one of the foodie places [ranked #3 in Camden], Mt Battie Takeout, is across the road from the park--walking distance. The place is private and beautiful with 30 miles of hiking trails. Reservations are taken 48 hrs in advance, otherwise it is first come, first served. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have been to this state park many times over the years. In the fall after labor day it is first come for sites and the rates drop. There are over 100 sites here and about 45 of them have water and electricity. You can camp in the field looking at the bay or in the woods. Restrooms are clean and there are showers. Mt road to the top of Mt. Battie which overlooks the quaint town of Camden (one of the cutest towns in Maine). Hiking trails lead out from the campground and to the picnic area across the street. We paid close to $27 for an out of state in the off season for water and electric. They had Wi-Fi here as part of the cost. We always stop at the LL Bean parking lot in Freeport for our first and last night in Maine and if we come up the coast Camden State Park for our second night. On the way a stop at the Maine State Prison Store, Thomaston, ME is a must with all their outstanding woodworking. Looking for RV parking in Camden is difficult but the road across from the library has parking on the right large enough for RVs. Just a few more hours north is Acadia National Park. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Motorhome.
