Overall Rating:

This campground is an excellent location to Portland, Brunswick, Freeport and coastal activities. It has easy pull thrus with spacious sites, friendly staff, a nice pool, playground and large dog park. For the cons, there is no cable tv, the sewer hookups are on a hill so you're trying to dump uphill. It's really a bad design. The road into the campground is dirt and has a lot of pot holes. They try to keep it graded but it gets full of pot holes very quickly. They need to pave the road in. Roads inside the campground are the same. There's not a lot of landscaping or anything that makes this park very appealing. We've stayed in a lot of KOAs over the years and this one is really towards the bottom when it comes to facilities and aesthetics. They are cutting corners and it shows even down to something as silly as the thinnest toilet paper I've ever experienced in the bathrooms. For the price, I would try another park in the area if I'm back this way. I didn't try their wifi. We used our Verizon and ATT hotspots and used a booster for better speeds. W/out booster Verizon was 20d/1.35U, ATT was 2.52d/.67U. With booster Verizon was 43d/3.18U and ATT was 12D/1U. OTA channels were pretty good, major stations and others came in well. We used a laundromat in Brunswick (Sunshine Center) which was very clean. The dryers worked welland it had average pricing. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

Most of the sites, including ours, were bare dirt. Laundry facilities were at office which is a long way from most of the sites. Very nice fenced dog area that is grassy and shady. People in the office were very nice. Store was well stocked. Pizza delivery was available on Friday night. Very crowded with families and young children on the weekend. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Freeport is about 15 minutes away. There is a small area for RV parking in town. Plan to get there around 9 or earlier on weekends to get a space.

Very large open area for Big Rig access. WiFi worked great. The only complaint is the dust! This is a very nice park, but the dust generated by any and all vehicles is overwhelming. The sites are very long and level with a lot of grass, but it is hard to sit outside when, every time someone drives by, you are covered with dust. Either pave the streets or treat them to keep the dust down. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed four nites in Class A, along with 2 other RV'ers. Full hook-up. My site, had to maneuver to hook up water and sewer. Friends had no problem. 15 minutes from Freeport, home of LL BEAN. Nice town, lots of places. LL Bean has 3 or 4 stores including an outlet store. The outlet is located across street, along with the other normal outlet stores. After Bar Harbor, will return for a few more days. Very nice and helpful people. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

Naked BBQ and Tuscans were very good places to eat. Next time we go to Naked BBQ, we will split a dinner. Ribs were delicious, but we brought 1/2 of each dinner back.

Very enjoyable stay in Maine. Relatively central location. Secluded. We stayed along the tree line, which I preferred to the pull-through sites in the middle. Firewood was available at the camp store. We had visitors that required a nominal charge for entry. I would stay there again. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Centrally located. Very close to Freeport (20 minutes), Portland is about 40 minutes and Georgetown about 60 minutes. Acadia National is a bit more of a drive, but doable as a day trip.

This park is located in the country about 6-7 miles from Freeport. We had a long pull thru with good utilities and an open sky for dish located in an open grassy area. Something not always available in the Maine woods. My only complaint would be lack of signage coming from the interstate the way our GPS directed us. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

LL Bean is a must in Freeport and dinner on the balcony at Linda Bean's Maine Kitchen was great people watching as well as good Maine seafood. A trip to Boothbay Harbor with lunch at the Tugboat Inn overlooking the harbor was delightful. It is still the off-season here, so things are not too crazy-in a couple of weeks, not so much, I'm sure!

Overall Rating:

This is an excellent KOA located close to Freeport Maine and is well maintained and very clean. Roads leading to the park are marginal, at best, and need to be navigated very carefully (obviously Maine needs to put some money in road maintenance). Campsites are either in the open (pull throughs) or in the woods (typically back-ins), some have dumps but all have electricity and water. When making the reservation you can choose what type site you want--obviously cost of the site is dependant on the amenities. There's a lot for kids to do with train rides through the campground on weekends. WiFi is inadequate for a park this big. I could always log on but sometimes the signal was so slow everything timed out. Verizon coverage was poor but OTA Television was great. We enjoyed this KOA so much extended our stay three days. Highly recommended. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for two nights. They advertise pony rides and blow up slide. When we arrived they said the slide only is blown up Wednesday's and Saturday's. The pony rides? She didn't know when they were if they were doing them. We were charged more than we were quoted and had issues with refunding the differences. The internet was off and on. The dump station was backwards and you had to go out of your way to use it the correct side. For a KOA, it was not up to the standard we are used to. Customer service was terrible and they never apologized for the mix up.

I would NOT stay here again. If you advertise "fun" activities for the kids, you should either note on your website when they are or not offered. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Everything here is hunky dory. Large roomy site, huge dog park, bags to gather dog waste, the best brick oven pizza on Friday night. The only draw back might be that it is a ways to the interstate. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed mid May and many functions were not yet running, like pool and nightly functions. Gate was broken and not repaired in the 3 days we were there. This was not far from our home and we were running our new coach through its paces. Despite no pool or other amenities and 40-50 degree temps, they still charged $6/each for my brother and his wife to come see the coach for 2 hours and have a burger with us. Woman at office was unwavering in collecting the visitor fee despite the lack of services available. The previous 2 KOAs we stayed at in the prior week waived any visitor fees as they were just getting up and going for the season. They have a decent store and were friendly but the visitor fee thing was a real negative since we were nearly the only non-seasonal unit there. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

This place was cute and you could tell the owner put a lot of effort into the grounds or the people that stay there care about their surroundings. We stayed in front of the playground and you could see cute decorated areas. If you stay there, you will know what I mean. The owner was wonderful to talk to! He has inspired us to be campground owners. The store was really cute with lots of items for sale and a log cabin feel. There were some potholes coming in. I wish campgrounds would get those fixed. We ran into worse ones at other KOAs. Maybe it's a KOA thing! You are very close to Freeport downtown and downtown has RV parking! We just loved this area. He has ponies too and he is going to have a little farm setup, maybe next year! How great for kids. We had no issues with the WiFi. The dump station wasn't fully working because they had a problem with the water line when it froze a couple of nights before we arrived. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

Out of town, but easy to get to. A nice quiet rural setting with spacious sites and clean facilities. We were there after most schools had started so did not have a lot of children. I can see that as being a bit more busy during the season. There were many children oriented activities like a barrel ride and pony rides. The pool was busy as well. Laundry facilities were ok, but stairs had to be used to transport laundry. There was also a card entry gate, which I felt was more an inconvenience than a safety feature. Breakfast was available on the weekends while we were there which was nice. Privacy was good, wifi was good, 50AMP power with no problem. We would stay here again and would request a back in under the trees. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Motorhome.

This was our first time camping in Maine, and it was a great experience. The campground feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, and took a while to get to from the highway, but overall convenient to Freeport and the Casco Bay area in general. Campground staff were very friendly, and there were a lot of activities the weekend we were there. Site was backed up to trees which provided just enough shade, but the site was muddy as the previous occupant had used a very large mat which killed the grass. I would return to this campground. Our second stay here. We like it a lot the first time so we return. Half the campground is opened with no trees and half is wooded. Lots of activities for the kids and there were plenty of kids around. One note is that the activities are quick so if you miss the start of something it could be over when you get there. We tried the pizza Friday night and found it to be very good, nice to not have to cook after the long drive and traffic we had. Like this campground and the area so we will be back.
