Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Forest Ridge for four months from May through September 2018. Our experience at Forest Ridge was mixed. The seasonal price is reasonable but comes with tradeoffs. The location is ok, not great (the 20-mile drive to Bar Harbor can easily take an hour in traffic). Views are limited, gravel roads are pot-holed, and sites are gravel/grass. The campground is surrounded by a nice walking trail through beautiful forests. The campground is owned/managed by a family (husband, wife, & son) who seem to be learning on-the-job. Husband and son stay on site; wife works a full-time job and drops by after work and weekends. On Day 2 we settled in, sorting items from storage and gathering firewood (as there was no cut wood yet available) for an evening campfire. We were reprimanded by an owner in a sharp manner and instructed to clean up our "mess". We placed four LED "tiki" lights in the lawn and inquired on what days landscapers came so we could be prepared to remove them. We were advised "at any day or time" due to unpredictable Maine weather. In 4 months the owners mowed our lawn once. We observed others borrowing the mower to do their own lawns, so we followed suit. Electrical service is advertised to be 50 amps. We were astounded when our site breaker blew 6+ times. The owners did not hesitate to demonstrate their annoyance. They blamed us, dropped off a leaflet about responsible appliance use and instructed us to manage better. We reduced usage to a bare minimum and then shortly thereafter, the breaker blew again! A good-hearted neighbor looked and discovered our site had a 50-amp circuit but led to a 30 amp master switch. He replaced it for the owners. We never received an apology or explanation. The husband later admitted to us he is a bad communicator and dislikes confrontation. He told us his wife typically handles customer issues. We appreciated his candor. We hope they hire someone suited to running a campground with all the related personalities and problems. Right now the experience is hampered by an unprofessional management style. If you can, book early and find a campground closer to the Bar Harbor area. Will cost more but you will enjoy a better experience; the type you travel to Maine for. We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Motorhome.

This campground is just outside the town of Ellsworth, but is quiet and surrounded by forest. Gravel roads are rough. Sites are roomy, mostly level, gravel pull-throughs, with grass and large trees. Cable TV and WiFi. Woman who checked us in was friendly and helpful with information on exploring the area. There are a couple of open areas to walk my dogs. We would stay here again. We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Fifth Wheel.

Liked this campground although it was a 40 minute drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The site was level and had some shade. It was near the laundry room and showers. The washer/dryer costs were reasonable. It was very convenient. The check-in was a bit bumpy but the owner?/manager came by later with a nice word and refunded $12 discrepancy between the printed cost and the charge on the office computer. I appreciated his personal touch. Won me over. I appreciate those personal touches. We camped in a motorhome. Very dark and very quiet add up to great sleep. Large pull-thru sites with shade. Best cable and WiFi I've had in campground. Close enough to see all of the areas attractions. We chose this park because it was close to Acadia but still a reasonable drive to Camden. We had a pull-through site that was level and spacious. The park was well maintained and quite. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel welcomed. We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Motorhome.

Having been welcomed on arrival after a long drive with a such a pleasant greeting we settled in on our very nice campsite. This was our first time at this campground and was really surprised by the couple of negative reviews and found they couldn't have been further from the truth in our experience. Our little dog was also welcomed, as we were familiar with almost all campground pet rules this campground was no exception all rules were designed to be considerate of all other campers meaning assurance of a quiet and pleasant stay. We stayed for a total of 7 Days and enjoyed each and every one. We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Motorhome.

About a mile outside of Ellsworth and away from the tourist craziness. Sites were gravel and pull through with water/50/30/sewer and cable TV. Front section sites were unshaded and suitable for satellite users. More shaded sites in the back. Most campers seemed to be seasonal or semi-permanent as there was little transient traffic. Restrooms were very old but well kept and clean...could use bench/seat in showers and more hooks! Pool is a joke. Just a 4ft. deep above ground backyard pool! Park is nothing special at all and not even scenic. Just a place to drop the hook when exploring Acadia and Ellsworth...but everything worked fine and the front office was friendly. Would return again. We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Union River Lobster Pot restaurant is awesome and 1/2 mile away. All the big box stores and groceries are on 1A...go through town and take a right. About 2 miles. DorrSeafood is left on 1A if you want fresh lobster/clams/mussels and fish to cook yourself at decent prices.

They offer many discount options, including 5% if you pay cash. This park is very conveniently located about 30 minutes from both Bangor for large city shopping and entertainment, and Bar Harbor for Acadia National Park and ocean adventures. The park is family friendly, surrounded by heavy woods and is quiet. Owner/operators live in a 5th wheel in one of the spaces so they understand the camper's needs and experiences. The staff is very helpful. We are staying for the season! We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent the summer in this campground (May 1st to Oct 15) for $2400.00. It was a delightful experience and we are looking forward to being there again next year. Tips for other Campers:

The town of Ellsworth is a very convenient staging location. Acadia Nat'l Park and Bar Harbor are just 20-25 miles SE and Bangor is just 25 miles NW. Baxter State Park and the new National Monument Katahdin Woods and Waters are an easy 1-day drive north. This part of the Maine coast is spectacular and very accessible with many small lobstering towns and harbors.

Owners were very accommodating. The day I arrived the owners offered to drive me into town (grocery store and restaurant) located only about a mile from campground. I gladly accepted the offer as I arrived on my touring bike and I was self contained carrying about 70lbs of gear. For anyone bike touring please call in advance to give the owners a "heads up" if you need a ride into town. Overall the experience was A+! Clean restroom, shower, cabin and the grounds were immaculate! Thanks for a quiet night's sleep and a beautiful experience. This park is very clean. The interior roads are gravel and a bit dusty. The sites are gravel with excellent wifi and cable. My adjustable water regulator registered less than 40 psi and had to use the house pump to take a shower. The staff was excellent and offered great directions on where to eat and what to see. The nightly rate was a bit steep for its lack of amenities (only had an above ground pool) and the distance to the Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor area. We made reservations since we were arriving for the Memorial Day weekend, but we really did't need them, the park had many sites available with some seasonal sites taken. The office gave us the Passport rate for a few days even though it was the holiday, nice of them. There are two levels to the campground, the lower level has more trees and some unleveled sites. We were in the section near the front, where the grass and gravel sites are fairly level, and just a few trees scattered around. The Electric and water were strong, the Cable good, Wi-Fi spotty at times, four Washers and dryers in the small laundry area. There is an above ground pool and a very small play area for kids. The appearance of the park is nothing special, but you do have a picnic table and fire pit. This is a good place to stay to get housekeeping chores done, but if in the area again, we may try a different location. We stayed here in a travel trailer. Being away from the crowds, it is a good 45 minutes from Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and to the Schoodic Peninsular. The drives are slow but pleasant. Being close to town, you have good grocery stores, a nice L.L. Bean Outlet, and a variety of restaurants
