This state park is a true dry camping experience. No water faucets near the road to fill your tanks and no threads on the faucets to connect a hose. The staff was very friendly and the camp host checked in with us as we were setting up to see if we needed anything. There is a kitchen for washing dishes. The campsites come in a variety of sizes, no problems finding a space for our 32' travel trailer. Campground is located at the base of mountain, great for a day hike.

The access road is a pretty steep gravel road. We had no problems but used 4 wheel drive as a precaution. We camped at Aroostook State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Many local sites. Traveling up from Houlton, look for the largest scale model of the solar system along the way.

Since all the other reviews were a couple years older or more, just confirming that all prior information is still accurate as of August 2015. We just stayed there and the park was clean, well-kept, and very quiet. It was full on Friday/Saturday, and nearly emptied out on Sunday morning. Mostly tents, with a few popups and only a couple travel trailers. No hookups, no fill or dump station (water spigots do not have threads for hoses). Electric outlets available in bath house or kitchen shelter for emergency charging. Very peaceful setting and would stay here again without hesitation. We camped at Aroostook State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I just returned from this state park, and I can definitely say that it is now my favorite. The sites are large and private, the bath house spotless, the rangers all friendly and helpful, and the kitchen shelter is a really nice touch. We were there during the week, and there were, maybe, six other campers in the whole park, but on Friday night it just about filled up. It is a small park, with only 30 sites, and is very quiet and peaceful. On Saturday morning some of the staff hosted a coffee social, which was fun. They rent canoes and kayaks for use on the small, but pretty lake. In the middle of the night I heard a loon calling. All in all, a very special place way up in "The County" in Maine. We camped at Aroostook State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Very nice place. Rangers are super helpful. Sites are nice and large. Website descriptions are right on. Beach is just a short walk. One warning - there is no dump station. We camped at Aroostook State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a small state park campground that caters more to tents and pop-ups than to RV's and motorhomes. That being said, there are several sites large enough to accommodate larger fifth wheels and MH's. No hook-ups of any kind. The campground entry road (1/2 mile) is steep and a bit rough, but the distance to the campground is short. The campground is heavily wooded and shady. In addition to outhouses in the campground, they have a very nice showerhouse with five rooms. Three of the rooms contain showers, sinks and toilets, and are large enough for a parent to use with children. The other two rooms (also quite large) have sinks and toilets only. The showerhouse was spotlessly clean. The park is on a beautiful lake, and rents canoes and kayaks very cheaply. There are some good hiking trails, including a climb of Quaggy Jo mountain's South and North Peaks. Maine residents pay $10 plus tax, while out-of-state pays $20 plus tax. The town of Presque Isle is only about 10 minutes away, and offers all services and shopping that one might need. We camped at Aroostook State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2006 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Located 5 miles south of Presque Isle with over 700 acres. Maine’s first state park. There are 30 sites in the woods with water and a washroom near the first sites. There is no electricity. The bathrooms have been redone. Very interesting – there are at least 7 private bathrooms with a shower stall and wash basin (great for families with small children). Very clean. There is a place to swim on a fresh water lake with a place to put in a boat. A quiet spot to camp with privacy in the woods and the drive on route 1 from Presque Isle or Houlton to get there is beautiful. The best part about this campground is that they have one of the nicest group of rangers working there that greet you at the entrance and offered all sorts of help and assistance. They drove around during the night and day to see if anyone needed help. There is a playground and 3 hiking trails up Quaggy Jo Mountain, which in the winter some of them are used as cross county trails. We camped at Aroostook State Park in a Motorhome.
