The owners are the most involved and motivated campground hosts we have met. We loved our stay here and know the next time we come it will be even better. As others have said, there are many recent improvements to this campground. The only difficulty we had was that our 30 amp power was pretty weak so our internal protection would disconnect over about 25 amps due to voltage drop. This is a wooded and natural campground, not a resort. They do have a pool but if you are used to resorts then you would probably want to check out Camden Hills. We love this property though because of the clean restrooms, outdoor cedar showers, and beautiful harbor views from the overlook. Our site 56 was good for our 40' rig and was easily leveled. Full tree cover. Verizon coverage good, AT&T unusable. Campground WiFi is strong and additional cost. The benefit is that not everyone there is using it, so it isn't bogged down trying to stream cat videos to every iPhone in the campground. You do actually get what you pay for. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed dining at fresh & co, located in Camden. Very tasty, interesting & quality dishes. Longrain (also in Camden) offers great Asian eats.

Park is back under private ownership finally! New owners very helpful and very ambitious in plans for improvements. We saw lots of tree work being done and revival of the ocean overlook where lobster bakes were held in the past. Look forward to going back next year. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was the second year we had stayed here during the North Atlantic Blues Festival. We had reserved pull thru site #5 after walking around to pick a site last year before we left. In general the sites are a bit small and close for larger trailers and coaches. Site #5 offered a small plot of greenery on the front side of our camper giving us a bit of extra space. Length of the sites was adequate but not spacious for our 35 foot 5'er. The location is terrific. They are right on the ocean with cabins and tent sites that nearly overlook the water. Pull thru sites were on the front side and close to Route 1. There was a lot of traffic noise. My wife showered in the rest room. They were free and clean and this had been a busy weekend (near capacity). I noted that the roads in the campground were tight. We had challenges a couple times getting in and out due to parked cars. We were there for a festival weekend so this probably is not typical. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Owls Head Transportation Museum or come for the Blues Festival. On the coast of Maine, don't leave without Lobster & Clams. If you are a beer geek considered the Rock Harbor Brewery in Rockland or Threshers Brewing in Searsmont.

The park is under new ownership for the past seven months. They seem to be very motivated to correcting many of the shortcomings mentioned in previous posts. We stayed in a 35 foot class A at Site M9 and we had plenty of room. 50 amps and very good water pressure. Our site also was equiped with a new dunp fixture. WiFi was about $2 per day and was so fast that streaming was not a problem. Forget satellite reception if you are located in the woods. We could not pick up any over the air TV signals. Very quiet, and wonderful views of the ocean and lighthouse from the campground overlook. Being empty nesters we very much appreciated that the majority of campers were "mature" adults. No music. No children running around. Real quiet. Very conveniently located to Camden, Rockport, Rockand, and Owls Head. At this time I would not recommend rigs longer than 35 feet. There were areas for tenters as well, but, not too close to the RVers. We did see class B-C , 5th wheels, and towables. Interestingly we encountered no flys and mosquitoes were almost non existent. For RVers and campers desiring a nice quiet place to stay and take in the local places to visit I recommend Megunticook campground. Can the ambience be improved? Yes - and that is what the owners are working on daily. Note: this is a campground and not a resort. It fulfilled my criteria for a campground. Disclaimer: I have no financial incentive directly or indirectly with the owners. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Transportation Museum at Owls Head was excellent. Flatbread Pizza was about a mile north of the campground and was great. We liked roaming around Camden and Rocklsnd. Not much in Rockport. Two to three days of touring is plenty then spend as much time just hanging out and relaxing.

Wonderful campground made even better by the welcoming and helpful owners. Very pretty and wooded. A highlight is the deck overlooking Penobscot Bay and the ocean which is perfect for evening cocktails, reading or just sitting and enjoying the view. It is perfectly located to enjoy Rockland, Camden and the surrounding area. The owners are putting a great deal of work into the campground and it shows. We look forward to staying again when we're back in the area. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed over Labor Day weekend. It was crowded but quiet. Entrance isn't well lit and sign doesn't show in the dark. Easy to miss. Had to unhook towed vehicle because of tight roads getting to site. Heavily wooded and a nice change from other pull throughs where you are stacked on top of each other. Nice wooded trail leading to an overlook for a fantastic view of Maine's rugged coast and outlying islands. Lots well manicured. Lots of cool secluded tent sites. Full timers are removed to another part of the park. We traveled with 3 RVs and we were all together. Checked in to find out that we owed an additional $8 for some sort of miscalculation. Never did figure it out but we had made reservations 6 months earlier because of the Camden Windjammer festival. We did have an issue with a full timer who appears to have a reputation for causing problems with the transients. Mgmt took care of it immediately. He again caused issues with others in our group upon leaving and appears he has worn out his welcome with mgmt and was being removed. Whatever his issue was we didn't let it deter us from enjoying the campground and the local areas like Camden and Rockport. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is loacted right on Route 1 and they have an average size sign at the entrance, but it is unlit at night and difficult to see on this fast moving highway.

The campsites are small and uneven and the dump station is right in front of the main office and you could easily end up in a long line to dump and exit. If you are waiting to dump you most definitely will be blocking the only road through the campground.

The picnic tables are all old and in poor shape. They also charge $12.00 per person for guests. Avoid this place. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Located right on busy US Rt. 1. Decent sites in mostly heavy woods. Right after Labor Day not corwded so feels pretty spacious. Not a lot of50A sites. Some right on the highway, others pretty tight well back in the wood. Best sites are 30A. Could be longer to allow better parking for toads and p/u. Roads are better than many we have been on. Tight but passable for sure. Yes, we would stay here again. Wish they had wi-fi out in the campground. TV good. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here in a 36 ft 5er. At check-in, the girl did not know the size of the site. I asked if it was an angled back in. She had no idea what I meant. Could not fit in spot. We had a very hard time going back to the office. Very narrow roads. She finally gave us a pull-through. There was no room to park the truck. I parked the truck in a site meant for a tent and then got stuck in the mud. No way to put straight out of the pull-through. Had to back out of the pull-through. We were going to stay a week. Ended up staying 2 nights. That tells it all. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The Good: Close to the quaint seaside town of Camden, and it reminds you of a State Park. The Bad: It reminds you of a cruddy State Park, the roads are narrow and rutted. The Bad: The sites are narrow and apparently the people taking reservations have no clue as to what they are doing. I asked for my Good Sam discount and was offered a complimentary bundle of fire wood. No thank you. I'll take the credit. Half of the showers and bathrooms had very old 'Out of Order' paper signs taped to their doors, a movie was showing in a little amphitheater that was so loud I could hear it word for word at 10:00 0'clock at nite. Our site was a real struggle to get into, but it was the "largest" site available for our 38' 5th wheel. When we attempted to move the picnic table to make room for our rig to back it in, it fell apart from rot. We then noticed that not two picnic tables were the same. They must buy them when they are on sale somewhere. It was not a pleasant camping experience for us. Would not stay here again...ever! We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here one night to get off the road on our way home. The campground is heavily wooded, with narrow roads to the campsites. The bath houses are up by the office. If you have a site far away from there, it will be a loooong walk to the bathroom. The campground is on a cliff overlooking the ocean. They have recently fixed that area with up with a bbq, picnic tables and a nice set of chairs overlooking the water. However, when you leave that area you have no sense that you are by the water. Our campsite was level and the utilities were easy to use. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.

Saying they have WiFi is a Stretch. If you want to walk up the hill 1/4 mile to the office building then you can get Internet - it is not park wide. Not much attention given here to regular upkeep - the office building is getting a 'make over' but the laundry is shabby, the once beautiful ocean overlook is overgrown and the general look of the park is low. Pool was empty and in need of some repairs before it would ready to fill and use. Was nice to have cable TV. No one in office when I checked in so I took site #1, finally someone there about 5:00 PM, never saw another 'park' person, manager, maintenance, camp host or anyone. For mid-June the park was 'not ready' for guests. Site was level, hookups good, grocery and fuel close in town of Rockland, very shady park - satellite reception would be iffy. Fellow campers were nice (as always) but the park itself has a way to go to be anything above 'satisfactory' which was being nice. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hilly Gravel streets. Showers and restrooms are in need of renovation. Very shady park. Wi-Fi only available in clubhouse and office. $20 fee demanded for early check-in. Park shows children's movies in evenings. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We were a little concerned with some of the negative reviews, but overall, pleasantly surprised. We have a nice pull through site, and there are very few people here now, so we can walk across the road and see the pretty stream. Further down toward the ocean that same stream cascades over rocks and small waterfalls with ferns everywhere. The view of the harbor is breathtaking, and the area by the water has chairs, benches, and picnic tables. Lots of plantings throughout the area. People were very helpful, and the sites have some foliage between them. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is the first time I've been deceived by this review site. I chose Megunticook based on the 9 & 10 ratings it had here in the last couple of years. Wow. Was that disappointing. The rather high rate per night is based on the "by the Sea" part of the name. Other than that there is nothing at this campground to justify nearly $50.00/night. There is no w-ifi. The campground was all but empty, yet we were put on site 1 which is nearly on Route 1, so we had traffic noise all night. The site was nothing close to level nor were any of the sites. I walked to the water. It is a small deck with a pleasant view and several run down chairs and picnic tables that looked like they would collapse if you sat in them. We were preoccupied with a problem at home or I would have gone elsewhere or at least changed sites. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Motorhome.
