On the plus side the one staff member we met was friendly. We asked for a pull-through and were placed in an area where they put overnighters. There was nobody else in the area and we were allowed to park sideways so we didn't have to unhook our toad. On the down side this area was muddy gravel that had not had the trash picked up in quite a while. None of the fire pits had been cleaned and all had cans and bottles or other trash in them. We saw a couple of dogs running free off leash. Our area had been frequented by them and their wastes had not been picked up. We had no desire to spend a second night. - arpijay
Jul 2011 - $31.00
Rate reflects PA discount during the week and full price on the weekend. Had choice of 3 sites and chose one on the hill. Very quiet up there. Lots of semi-permanent RVs. They are local and keep the RV there for the weekend etc.. FHU with 30amp power was OK until the heat wave hit and then the AC's pulled it down too low for me to run mine. Eventually all power was lost in the whole area. Not just the park. Very helpful and friendly staff. I didn't swim in the lake but the wife did and enjoyed it. They had activities on the weekends. There are signs on Hwy.1 on both ends of Winslow Hill Rd. Easy to find. We visited lots of towns, Acadia and Bar Harbor from there. Made a good base camp. - Fulltime 5er
Jul 2010 - $35.00
The people were very friendly. There were a lot of seasonal sites in the trees, but we saw few people; I assume they only come on the weekends. We were allowed to pick our own site. The set up was nice with many sites around a huge field that was being readied for a bon fire. The was no directional sign on Rt 1 to the campground (owner working with state to replace it). Paved road leading up to the park with gravel interior roads. Price was high, but expected in this part of the country. - RV-Fulltimer

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about writing this review, because Sandy Shores is a hidden gem that very few people know about and because I don't want to tell anyone it's here so I can keep it to myself. Let me begin by saying that this is a private Co-op park but some of the individual site owners have opened it to seasonal and monthly renters. The rate shown is the seasonal rate divided by 180 days. The park operates from the beginning of May through the end of October. It's located on South Pond which is an approximate 600 acre fresh water lake. There is a boat ramp and dock. The roads in the park are crushed stone and the sites are large and grassy with plenty of shade trees. There are two bath houses with restrooms that are lightly used and very clean. There are also two clean laundry rooms with very reasonably priced machines. The swimming pool opens as soon as the cool Maine spring permits. You can also play horseshoes, shuffleboard or tennis. There is a clubhouse that contains a full kitchen, a game room and library exchange. Yes, the park abuts a railroad spur. The train comes by about once each week during the day to drop off and pickup 2-3 bulk cars at the concrete plant. It is very quiet here. This is Mid-Coast Maine where there is plenty to see and do. There are a minimum of 6 lighthouses to visit within 1 hour of the park. Any number of state parks close by, 4 miles to groceries and gas, 1.5 miles to a farm stand and fresh fish is everywhere. There is a reason they call this vacation land. Shh, try not to tell anyone... please. - freckles1219

Lake Pemaquid CG is a huge place with many features: beaches, boathouses, a store, playgrounds, etc. It is very family-friendly and there were lots of kids riding around on bikes and playing various games, swimming, eating ice cream, and generally having a good time. The upkeep of the entire facility is so-so. The main paved road is hard to tell from the many dirt roads because the paving is in poor condition. There are lots of trees and some grass but it isn't particularly manicured. The water is lovely and because it isn't the ocean, it is not too cold to swim in.
There are many seasonal campers and they are scattered around in the CG. There are a variety of sites and there's probably one to suit anyone's taste.
There was one area (near us) where a noisy group of seasonal campers seemed to gather every night to have a fire and drink and make way too much noise. This is a beautiful location and probably ideal for families who like outdoor recreation. - virginianola
Aug 2016 - $43.00
Very family oriented park. If you don't have kids you won't want to stay here. Free WiFi is only in one building that is locked all the time. Poor AT&T signal. Pool and spa area overrun with kids. - AMM
Aug 2016 - $39.00
This is a huge park as RV parks go. The park is on a lake but the beach is not particularly nice, most campers use the pool for swimming. The playground is very good for the kids by offering unusual activities like a swing bridge and a small zip line. The camp store and snack bar operate well. Since the park is so large, it lacks the personal service that you receive in a smaller park. Weekends are hectic since the park is full, things quiet down some during the week.
The check out is somewhat awkward; you have to stop at the office to receive your deposit on the gate pass and there is no place to pull your rig over to the side. It can cause a bit of a bottle neck.
WI-FI is weak and only available at the rec hall, no cable TV. AT&T is very weak. We were able to obtain satellite TV from our site. We stayed for five days. - Nautilus

Our all time favorite campground. Perfect if you like quiet and the most beautiful sunrises and night sky ever. Counted 9 satellites in one hour last night. Not really a place for kids although there is a pool and there is no store. WiFi is ok but no tv. Weekly stays minimum but lots to do in the area and plenty of resources nearby in Rockland. - Alan S
Aug 2016 - $55.00
My wife and I have been camping for 20 years, starting with tent to pop-up to hybrid and finally graduating to large travel trailer, and most of the joys we have experienced have been in the friendly people we have encountered. However, the Saltwater Farms Campground was, without a doubt, the most unwelcoming and unfriendly campground that we have ever visited. The staff went far beyond being unfriendly -- they were downright rude. In addition, the seasonal campers there acted as though we were intruders. We spent more money to stay at this campground than we have ever spent anywhere, yet we had the most unpleasant experience we've ever had at any campground anywhere.
This all goes beyond the fact that the "amenities" (and I do use this term loosely) were minimal to non-existent. For example, the campground advertises that they have WIFI, however, you'll need some luck on your side to get it to work since it didn't work about 90% of the time. Try not to use your microwave and AC at the same time. Also, we were told that we would probably be able to get 2 over-the-air TV stations, however, again, no such luck. So, notwithstanding having no internet and no television (yet spending $378 to stay here for a week), this still would have been acceptable in a campground that made us feel even a little bit welcome. However, this campground did not.
This is the first campground review we have given, however, we felt compelled to give it this time as this campground was such a major disappointment to say the least. We would not recommend it to anyone who enjoys a friendly atmosphere in a campground. - Washington Hogwallop
Jul 2015 - $52.00
We stayed here to attend the nearby Rockland Lobster Festival. Our spot was closest to the river, so our views were great - unobstructed, wide-open views of the river in the distance. WiFi was pretty much unusable. Our AT&T cell service also was marginal (1 or 2 bars of 3G), but that's nothing that the RV park can do anything about. There is a long gravel & dirt access road in and out of the park, which means that our car was always coated in a layer of dust, and the park won't let you wash your rig or car, so you've been warned. No cable TV to my recollection, but we could pull in a couple of stations over-the-air. It was a peaceful setting, just nothing special. - coffeetime

Advertised as big rig friendly, it is not. The entry road very rough with pot holes and tight turns with low overhanging trees make access undesirable. The dump station available is on a pull through with a sharp turn and a steep hill on exit. - Northern Star 3934

Stayed for 4 days/nights. We had a water site, and it had an awesome view of the lake. No problems with power. No sewer at the lake front sites, but we knew that when we made the reservation. The owner came by and pumped out our holding tank when asked. The pump-out fee was very cheap!
They have an entertainment room that we never visited, but there was often a flurry of children activity during the day.
No problems, and clean facilities. Oh, if you mingle with your neighbors, you might get Lobster for $2.50 a pound.
We would DEFINITELY come back again! Very quiet! - Bob Mac
Jul 2016 - $42.00
Owners were really nice. Gave us a site close to the swimming beach and playground. Had our 6 year old granddaughter with us, it was very convenient for her to run over and play. My main complaint with the site is that it was grass, and wet/soggy from recent rains. This made it impossible to use our leveling jacks, even with boards placed underneath. Sites are small, but there was no one in the adjacent sites, so it was okay. - Michigal
Aug 2014 - $48.00
This campground has some of the best on-the-lake sites in Maine and a nice beach. But that's where the good features end. Biggest negative were the showers and bathrooms. Stayed one week and bathrooms/showers were too few and very poorly maintained. Clogged toilets, no TP. On a very busy weekend, nothing was cleaned. Access roads would be difficult for larger rigs. Overall poorly maintained and not attractive. Most sites are seasonal with personable campers. I would go again for the lake and sites, provided I had my own shower and toilet, but the lake sites do not have sewer connections. The owner is pleasant and hard working, but appears overwhelmed based upon the conditions of roads, sites and lack of organization and landscaping. The desk person needs training on serving customers and making them feel welcome. Generally would not recommend, compared to many nice CG in Maine. However, in a pinch and without plans to use toilet/shower it can be acceptable. - Robic

My rating isn't higher just because the shorefront sites are kinda close together. But this was a great place to stay, very quiet, nice people, great fire ring and table with a view (from our site 12). Sites vary a lot of look at Google Earth and the site map to choose. The sites along the water have a great vista over the water. The price was good compared to many other campgrounds in Maine (which to us were expensive compared to the western U.S.) - chinookgeo
Jul 2017 - $34.00
We stayed at Lobster Buoy Campgrounds in July 2017 and I can say to us this was a hidden gem. It was by far the quietest campground we have stated in. We were just steps from them ocean. It is a smaller family owned and operated. There are some rules that someone going there would need to know. 1st is they do not allow you to run air conditioning or generators, but with the ocean breeze we found that we didn't need it at all. We had 15 amp electric and water. We needed the extension cord to reach the pedestal. The sites were not the most level that have seen but we were able to get level. They believe in old time camping where people need to entertain themselves. They do have their own beach that you can fish or kayak from. The other campers were mostly people that come back year after year but everyone is so friendly they made us feel like we knew them for a long time. - GaryMaryanne
Sep 2016 - $35.00
The only thing I can rave about is the ocean view. Spectacular.
The sites are only 30 amps.
In the brochure you get when you check in, it tells you about all the things they will throw you out of the park for, such as, no a/c, electric heater, generator, what types of cords you must use, no more than one dog (we saw several people with two)' and that's not the complete list.
Although they tell you they try to keep rates low, they could weed whack around all of the ramshackle trailers in the park and around the buildings to make the place look more appealing.
$25 charge if you dump when you arrive and then a free dump every three days even if it's your blue tank. They reserve the right to inspect your drain hoses too.
The straw that broke the camel's back was when you got to the shower, then and only then you find you have to pay for them too and there is nothing that says how much they cost or how long they run.
I don't believe we will be returning. - User3255

New owners took this campground over in 2017. It's a very nice wooded campground yet open spaces. The people checking you in are super friendly and very accommodating. Take you to your site, etc. they also own the other campground on Route 1. This is much quieter and yet still close to the Camden area. Highly recommend. - Ohioan
Sep 2017 - $36.00
Park was okay; site level and everything worked. In trees and the cable is very limited, satellite not possible in most sites. Quiet. Friendly hosts. If I stay in the area again I will try to get in Camden HIlls State Park. Sites are spacious and some are satellite friendly. - z32k12
Aug 2017 - $45.00
We enjoyed our stay at Camden Hills very much. It's a nice, neat and clean park. There was plenty of room between our RV and the one on the utility side and just a little less room on the social side. I didn't feel closed in. Our site was grassy without areas of dirt or mud. Utilities were very close to the woods (got chigger bites setting up and getting our bikes off the back of the RV). We didn't use cable even though it was available. We couldn't get satellite due to too many trees (nice and shady). Cell service (Verizon) was good so we hot spotted because there wasn't Wifi. It was quiet and comfortable but lacked some of what you'd expect for $45 per night. The park is within a couple miles of Rockport and Camden. Beautiful ports! The epitome of Maine! - jomark

Oct 2017 - $35.00
The owners are the most involved and motivated campground hosts we have met. We loved our stay here and know the next time we come it will be even better. As others have said, there are many recent improvements to this campground. The only difficulty we had was that our 30 amp power was pretty weak so our internal protection would disconnect over about 25 amps due to voltage drop. This is a wooded and natural campground, not a resort. They do have a pool but if you are used to resorts then you would probably want to check out Camden Hills. We love this property though because of the clean restrooms, outdoor cedar showers, and beautiful harbor views from the overlook. Our site 56 was good for our 40' rig and was easily leveled. Full tree cover. Verizon coverage good, AT&T unusable. Campground WiFi is strong and additional cost. The benefit is that not everyone there is using it, so it isn't bogged down trying to stream cat videos to every iPhone in the campground. You do actually get what you pay for. - leemhicks
Sep 2017 - $44.00
Park is back under private ownership finally! New owners very helpful and very ambitious in plans for improvements. We saw lots of tree work being done and revival of the ocean overlook where lobster bakes were held in the past. Look forward to going back next year. - Maine-iacs
Jul 2017 - $50.00
This was the second year we had stayed here during the North Atlantic Blues Festival. We had reserved pull thru site #5 after walking around to pick a site last year before we left. In general the sites are a bit small and close for larger trailers and coaches. Site #5 offered a small plot of greenery on the front side of our camper giving us a bit of extra space. Length of the sites was adequate but not spacious for our 35 foot 5'er. The location is terrific. They are right on the ocean with cabins and tent sites that nearly overlook the water. Pull thru sites were on the front side and close to Route 1. There was a lot of traffic noise. My wife showered in the rest room. They were free and clean and this had been a busy weekend (near capacity). I noted that the roads in the campground were tight. We had challenges a couple times getting in and out due to parked cars. We were there for a festival weekend so this probably is not typical. - BluesmanG
