Schoodic Woods Campground September, 2018- $25.00 Site B27 Overall Rating: Acadia National Park There is also a Acadia National Park entrance fee but free with Golden Age pass (America the Beautiful Lifetime Pass) This is a beautiful campground that we stayed three nights with an inviting check-in lodge with the fire burning, nice chairs for sitting down using the internet etc. Outside they have a waiting area with benches, bike and pet tie up poles and water bowls for your pets Two loops - A Loop with about 50 sites, twelve of those have 30 amps and the rest 20 amps. A walk in tent area with 9 sites all carry in. The B Loop has 33 sites with w& 30/50 amps. The sites are huge with privacy and as these trees grow there will be even more shade in the next ten years. The bathrooms are clean, clean, clean and new. No showers and the rangers can tell you where to go for fee showers in the area. There is internet at your site but the ones near the bathrooms have better connections. This park is less than three years old. There are bike trails on gravel, roads, sites, dump station, and the lighted walks all around the park with trail signs. Ranger talks some nights. Pets are welcome and even on the free shuttles that go around the area to Schoodic Point and the villages in the area. The park has bags around the park to pick up after your pet.. Great drivers on the free shuttles, you wave them down anywhere and if you want to be dropped off in the villages at a restaurant they will take you to the door as long as its along the. This section of Acadia takes about an hour plus from the Bar Harbor area to get here 17 miles north of Ellsworth then north and it is beautiful. There is a ferry ($) in Winter Harbor that can take you over to Bar Harbor (no cars). Sometimes you can see seal pups on the rocks as you ride around or hike. Bi. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Fantastic newish campground in the Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park. Sites are huge, private, flat, and gravel. We were there during a massive rainstorm, and the drainage was excellent. No mud anywhere. One of the few national park campgrounds that has hookups and is big enough for big rigs. Restrooms were new. No showers. There was a note on the wall with a list of public showers (all very expensive). AT&T and Verizon were both fine. Keep in mind that the Schoodic (pronounced SKOOdic, not SHOOdic) Peninsula is about an hour's drive from the rest of Acadia, which has both advantages and disadvantages. The Schoodic side is quiet and peaceful, but most of the famous parts of Acadia are a long way away, over a traffic choked bridge. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This was the quietest, most spacious, all alone in the woods by yourself feel campgrounds we have ever been to. The only noise you will hear is the fog horns and boats on the ocean. We booked at the last minute when someone canceled. 11 nights in the same spot. B3 1. showers: @ schoodic Marine Center 1.6miles from campground-$4 for 6 min/or winter harbor inn 1.6 miles away for $20 for 45 min towel, washcloth, soap, shampoo. bath at, bottle of water/or another campground 13.6 miles away, $5 per person, $7 a couple or $10 a family. Many people had portable grey water containers they dumped at the dump station. 2. Restrooms: 1 at the hike in sites, 2 in loop b and 2 in loop a, very clean, has sink out side for washing dishes, cold water only 3. Dump-station: at the end of loop b, easy in and out, has fresh water fill there also. 4. My Campsite: B3 electric and water: was on the edge of the woods and had a 155 ft driveway, pull thru. Excellent site. Lots of wildlife. Other campsites in loop b are also large and spacious, pull thru, back ins and parallel park. Loop a are for smaller units (25 ft max strongly enforced) and tents. Water is available in loop A but not at your site. 5. Wifi and cell: They have wifi but it did not work consistently at my campsite, was told it works at the restrooms. att: 2 bars and antenna tv got 12 channels. 6. noise: the only thing we heard at the campground was boats in the harbor during the day. You are spread so far away from each other, we could not hear anyone even talking. 7. Night rules: no out door lights on to include string lights, tiki torches and bug zappers. It was wonderful at night to see the stars without all the light distractions. This is enforced. Someone decided to have speakers outside with music blaring, that came to an abrupt stop also. First campgrounds I have been to that enforces all rules, was a great stay. cons: electric went down when we were out hiking. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

BTW:You are charged a 10 booking fee, and each change will be an additional 10. The hike starting from the group camping area is wonderful, 2 ways to do it, catch a ride back by free shuttle or hike in as far as you want and turn around then drive to blueberry parking lot and do the same. If you start the trail from group camping you can change up the hike by 3 ways, end with anvil, adler and east trails. All are great hikes but East is a drastic downward hike, beware.

Great wooded campground in "The other part of Acadia NP". Very long Gravel pull through site with water & electric, no sewer, but dumpsite available. Great separation with trees & underbrush on each side, fire ring and table. Great base for touring Winterhaven & the Schoodic Peninsula area that most people don't know is actually a part of Acadia. There are a few restaurants nearby & an IGA store, but the big stores are in Ellsworth. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

There are two loops in the campground. Loop A has electrical hookups only and smaller sites. Loop B has pull through sites with electric and water. We stayed in a very long but narrow site on B loop. The campground has nice long, fairly level sites with gravel and a small side patio area with fire ring and picnic table. This National Park campground is about 75 minutes from the main part of Acadia NP on Mt. Desert Island. The Schoodic Peninsula is much less crowded than the island. Bring your bikes as there are beautiful gravel bikes paths crisscrossing the park. The one way road around the peninsula is also wonderful for biking. If you head to the main part of the park, leave early in the day to grab a parking spot at attractions. Otherwise use the Island Explorer shuttle bus service to avoid frustration. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like to hike we recommend the 5 mile hike from the campsite to Blueberry Hill area. You can return by shuttle bus. The LobStore in Winter Harbor has good seafood including boiled lobster specials. In Ellsworth, check out Helen's Restaurant for a Haddock burger and excellent pie. You can kayak in nearby Jones Pond.

This campground is located on the Schoodic Peninsula section of the National Park. This is considered the "quiet side" of the park with Mt Desert Island containing all the famous landmarks and Schoodic being more laid back. The booking window for this campground is 6 months and I got online the earliest day I could book for the dates of our stay. At that time there were only a few remaining available sites. It is located just outside the small town of Winter Harbor. The pull-through sites of Loop B are some of the longest we've ever seen. Spacing between the sites is also more than generous. We can see our neighbors through the trees but there's a great feeling of privacy throughout the campground. The sites in this loop all offer 50 amp electric and water. There's even free campground WiFi. Here's a tip for WiFi - book sites nearer the restrooms for the strongest WiFi signals. My Verizon worked okay, ranging from 1 to 3 bars of 4G and I had no problem getting satellite TV. The campground has a "dark skies" policy. That means there are no strings of LED lights, bug zappers, etc. It also means that you can sit out at night and count the shooting stars and watch satellites gliding across the sky with the backdrop of the Milky Way clearly visible. Take advantage of the dark skies policy to see the beauty of the night sky. The roads are paved and the sites are gravel. The restrooms were always clean. You want to know that there are no showers at the campground. A few businesses in town offer showers for a price. There's a NPS shuttle bus that serves the Peninsula, including stops in the two nearby small communities where there are restaurants, a small grocery, and a few shops - all can be visited without starting your own vehicle. If the campsites here were full hookup, or if, at least, showers were offered, I'd give Schoodic Woods a perfect score. As it is, though, it ranks as one of our favorite campgrounds of all time. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

With no showers and no sewer connection, you better be self contained to stay here for long, but man is it worth it. This is right in Acadia National Park. You can drive or ride your bike down to the rocky waterside and take in the beauty of the area. This is probably the quietest campground we've stayed in. The sites are HUGE and level in the B loop. I didn't really check out the A loop. The bathrooms are clean. This is a newish park so I'm surprised there's no showers at least. The nearby activities are pretty much all outdoor activities with limited shopping so stock up. There are a couple of shops in Winter Harbor and the 5 and 10 store is quirky and fun, but that's about it. Make sure you take the 1 hr drive to Bar Harbor for shopping, dining and site seeing because it's a fantastic little town Connectivity without a booster was also limited. No T mobile and 1 bar of Verizon and 1 bar of ATT with slow data speeds (1d/l). But with a booster it was quite usable. Verizon hovered between 6-15 d/l speeds and ATT was 5+ d/l speeds so you can definitely get by here with a booster. Access in and out was good. Roads are in good shape but be careful with bigger rigs are there are some hanging branches on the side of the road in a few places. The drive inside the park was as good as it gets with wide and easy to navigate roads and a good check in process. Rangers were nice and available if needed. I would not hesitate to stay here again. This is a perfect, relaxing campground in a beautiful area. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a great campground, with very large sites, decent privacy between sites, lots of trees, and smooth wide roads. Our site was a bit sloped and we needed to use blocks under our wheels and jacks to get level, but it wasn't as bad as many other parks we've been to. The campground WiFi worked OK sometimes, but other times it either wasn't showing up or wouldn't allow us to connect. Both AT&T and Verizon had good LTE signal, but were sometimes slow - we'd switch from one to the other when performance was poor. The network of gravel bicycle trails from the campground will let you explore all of the peninsula. One morning we parked our car at the Blueberry Hill parking area at the south end of Schoodic and hiked the ~5 miles back to the campground along some great mountain and wooded hiking trails, then used the free shuttle to retrieve our car. However, there are not nearly as many trails or areas to explore as compared to the main part of Acadia on Mount Desert Island. As others have mentioned, it's odd that a brand new top-notch campground doesn't have any shower facilities, a real downside when staying and hiking for a week when there are no sewer hookups at the sites. You can drive into town and pay $5 for a shower at the marina but we didn't try. We'd return (for a shorter stay) if visiting the area again. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

We booked our stay at Schoodic Woods about 4 months out, and we and our friends were both able to stay a week, although we had to "campsite hop" a bit. We stayed in B18, B2, and B21. The B loop is fantastic for larger rigs. Water and electric only, and as others have said, no showers on site. We looked at the showers at the ferry dock and they were very nice, private, and clean. This side of Acadia NP is amazing. The campground was clean, the access to the ocean was easy, and the views are simply amazing. It's peaceful and breathtaking. Winter Harbor has an IGA grocery store with the basics and a good selection of wine, and the Winter Harbor Lobster Co-op has fantastic fresh, live lobster. They'll even steam them for you if you want. We're hoping to go back, there's too much to explore. One week isn't enough! We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Check out J M Gerrish for delicious, creative food. Excellent soups and breakfast fare. The lobster co-op for that gotta-have fresh Maine lobster. The 5 and 10 store in Winter Harbor - you'll find things you haven't seen since childhood! Hike to the top of Schoodic Point. Amazing views, and several trail options to get you there.

This facility is easily reached and any updated GPS will take you right to the registration station. The roads in the park are paved, wide, and there are no trees to snag your rig. We were in B loop and our site was hard packed gravel, level, and all utilities were conveniently placed. There is excellent separation between sites and ample shade from surrounding trees. Over the air TV channels were spotty and usually worked either early morning or late afternoon. This campground is isolated, stress free but over an hour's ride from most major attractions in Bar Harbor. This is a place to come to get away from it all, hike or bike the numerous trails in the area, or traverse the loop road. Restrooms and entire park are new as of 2015, so kept immaculate. There are showers and laundry facilities in Winter Harbor at a price. We would stay here again. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

In Winter Harbor Chase's restaurant, J.M Gerrish Ice Cream Parlor as well as the 5&10 cent store are must visits. Going right out of the main entrance will bring you to the Pickled Wrinkle. It's a "locals" place that offers good food, many craft beers on tap, and music at times. It's clean and family friendly. Make sure you drive the loop road and also visit the Schoodic Institute and Schoodic Point.

We stayed in site A-38 which was a back-in with plenty of privacy and spacious. Loop A has 20 amp service and water spigots around the camping area. This is an outstanding park only 3 years old and they did everything right except one thing, NO SHOWERS. All sites are level and spacious I did not see a bad site in loop A. Loop A also has some beautiful walk in tent sites. Loop B is all pull throughs and has 50 amp electric and water at sites. As I said in my review last year Schoodic Woods is the alter ego of the Bar Harbor side of Acadia NP, quiet and laid back. Not to disparage The Mount Desert Island part of the park we love visiting there but it is a totally different experience. Which ever part of Acadia NP you choose bring you bicycle for great a riding experience. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This would be an almost perfect campground if it had showers. It's camping like it should be, rather than an amusement park with campsites. It has beautiful hiking trails, sweet biking trails, free shuttles to some of the most beautiful scenery in the eastern U.S., clean and up-to-date everything . . . except showers. Sorry tent campers. If it did have showers, it would be my current standard or gauge for what a great campground should be. It's still near the top and a great achievement by the National Park Service. This is a terrific National Park. Designed and built for the kind of "camping" Americans do these days. We were in the B section. Almost all pull through, able to accommodate the largest RVs, water and electric. The A section is larger and most spots would accommodate large RVs, electric only. This is not the "Bar Harbor experience." There are no T shirt shops, no fudge shops. This is Acadia. Great drives along the rocky Maine coast. Great bicycle paths, great hiking. Great sites for everything from large motor homes to small walk-in tent sites. Park operates a free shuttle all along the peninsula, including the town of Winter Harbor, where there are restaurants and some shopping. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
