Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 5 nights in a site for big rigs. The site we had lacked gravel. The park is going for the green look and maybe that is why the sites were all grassy. If it had rained our grass pad would have been a mud pit and we would not have been able to get out. Is it that hard to put a little gravel down on the dirt? On the positive side because of all the grass there is no dust, which means not having to wash the coach after our stay. It is a very clean rv park (one of the cleanest we have been to). We had to pay an extra fee for checking in early. When you stay for as many nights as we did, I do not believe they should charge an extra fee for checking in only 90 minutes early ($45). Our satellite worked great here as our site was in the middle of the big open field. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk, however beware of their dog policy. Under no circumstance can you leave your dog alone in your coach or trailer, not even for 30 minutes. If you do....and you're caught, you will be kicked out. If you are looking for a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax... go here. We enjoyed our stay, but because of their dog policy I do not think we would ever go back. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a peasant campground with nice grounds, but I can see no reason for it to cost so much! We chose it for the location and decided to just pay up, but were hit with even more charges. When I called they said it would be $60 plus tax and I didn't notice when I registered that my base charge was $65. We arrived at 11:00am and had to pay another $25 for early arrival, which no one had mentioned when I made the reservation. The site looks level, but we still had to work a bit. The bathrooms are clean but rustic and dated, and the showers cost 25 cents for 8 minutes. That's kind of a slap in the face after the huge cost to stay here! The power is just 30amp and a little weak. They have WiFi, but it only works at the office. For this price, they could install another router! They have things for recreation and the sites are nice, but I would certainly not stay here again!! It would be nice at $35-40! We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The traffic in Wiscasset is horrible! On Friday afternoon it was backed up for miles in either direction, and there's no other way to get through it. We wanted to eat at Red's since we had heard so much about it, but the lines were terrible!

Overall Rating:

Our first time here and the experience was great. This is one of the cleanest, most attractive RV parks we've ever been in. Instead of being crowded into a line of campsites a mere few feet apart, our campsite was roomy and our closest neighbor 40 or so yards away. The sites are tastefully sited so that one can have a view of the tidal basin, shade, open sun or whatever one wants. We had full hookups. The staff is friendly as well as our fellow campers. Some were in RVs, some in tents, some in motor homes. Pricy but worth it. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Wiscasset downtown just a couple of miles away. Camden is 25 miles north on Route 1, Rockport 15 miles. There is a superb seafood restaurant in Woolwich - 5 miles or so south on Route 1 called the Taste of Maine. Don't miss it.

If you're after rustic sites and a beautiful view this park is for you. There are not a lot of sites for big 5th wheels or motor homes. It's mainly for tent and small trailer camping. We camped in a 32' 5th wheel and, to get to our site, we had to maneuver past some bushes and low hanging limbs. Our site was on grass. The facilities were located on the left side so we had to pull in and then back out when we left - but it wasn't bad. The view was spectacular. The campground is up on a hill so the river and tributaries were beautiful. They have a very nice large salt water pool so it was good for kids. My only issue was how inconsistent the power was. We knew going in that they only had 30A so we were prepared to only run one air conditioner at a time. However, I don't believe the service was a full 30A as the air conditioner compressor kept cycling off when demand was high in the park. We hit the heat wave that was in the NE so a couple of days it was near 90 with 80% humidity. Definitely needed A/C to work properly! With nothing else on the microwave took 6-7 minutes to boil a cup of water. We survived but at $90/day with no cable, WiFi and inconsistent power I don't think the value was very high. There were beautifully shaded sites for tents and small trailers so if that's what you're using it may be worth it to you. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

BEWARE!! Infested with ticks!!! Sewer sites have less privacy than a WalMart parking lot. We took the dogs for one walk around the property and both dogs were covered! They were dog ticks, but still - totally disgusting. If you know you have a tick problem, be responsible and post signs or spray. A tick once in a while is nature, but this was a bit much. Needless to say, my wife and I couldn't sleep cause we had the "heebee geebee's" all night. My wife actually found a tick hanging out in my beard on the way home. We picked this campground based off of reviews and recommendations from others, and I have to say I am REALLY surprised. Our site was in a field, 10' away from our neighbors- in hindsight we should have asked for a non-sewer site, those sites looked a lot more private and wooded. Additionally our neighbors had a dog, (you know the little cat-ish rat dogs with "small man's syndrome), who was off leash the entire time (against the rules we were told no less than three times when checking in. We are responsible dog owners, we play by the rules and make sure our dogs behave. We were nervous the entire time that this little rat dog would provoke one of our dogs who are much bigger, and we would have a situation. Additionally the dog across the way, also a little Napoleon was a yapper! The owners just let him yap!! Needless to say, after one evening we had enough, packed up and went home without even checking out. $55 down the drain.... you win some, you lose some. I hope this post helps others out... this is an otherwise really nice campground with nice facilities and views. Field sites are like camping in a parking lot! Only camp on those sites if you spend the whole tim inside your camper, or if you like your neighbors- like family. Sites are almost close enough to read your neighbors paper over their shoulder from your site. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Travel Trailer.

One of the most beautiful campground views we have seen. The property is very well kept with adirondack chairs placed throughout the property to take advantage of gorgeous views. Most sites have a spectacular view of the inlet on Montsweag Bay. Would have rated this CG a 10 based on view alone, and for smaller units, this CG is a true gem. That being said, only a few sites can really accommodate a 5th wheel or large unit. Our "pull through" site 2B was really a pull-in and back-out site, so awkward to get out. The site next to us (1B) was long enough for a larger unit but very challenging to pull in or back out because of tennis court. Our site was full hookup but no 50amp and no breaker on power post. No cable but several channels through our antenna. No internet/wifi. We stayed for 5 nights. The ladies bathroom never had paper towels or a way to dry your hands. The showers were $0.25 for 8 minutes. There was a nice saltwater pool. The CG was very peaceful and quiet except for occasional sound for small airplanes taking off from nearby small airport. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Yes, it's expensive, so it's up to you whether it's worth it or not. We paid $75 for our site and loved it. The women that run the place are very friendly and helpful. Great to deal with, and their dogs are really nice pooches. The campground is geared mostly for tents, pop-ups and small trailers. Our 34' TT was on the large side, but there were a few sites that could accommodate us. Most of the sites are very spacious, especially compared to other private parks, which is why you're paying more. There are some really nice tent sites that are all by themselves. The campground is built on a small hill that rolls down to the marsh and the bay. Most of the sites have spectacular views of the marsh/bay, where you'll see deer, eagles, osprey, etc. What we really like about the campground is that they have kept it rustic, and keep it very well-maintained. There is a dirt road all around that is perfectly smooth. The bathroom/shower building is very simple, yet spotless. There is a saltwater pool (very nice), tennis courts, rec building, canoes and kayaks to rent (watch the tide). Some sites have no power, some 15A, and a few have 30A. Wi-fi at the office only is good, and Verizon service was good. There's a supermarket right around the corner along with other shopping. We hit the Montsweag Roadhouse for drinks - great place. Dogs are allowed. We were in site 17 once (shady). Easy getting in. Getting out took a few twists and pulling into site NN. Good thing there was a small MH there that was pulled up enough to give me some maneuvering room. We were in site RB, too (sunny). Again, getting in was easy, getting out required pulling into a site across from us. One thing that rubbed us was the guest fees. We had friends stay with us one night with their daughter, so that was another $30. We understand the need for guest fees, but $10 apiece was a bit much. There is a great campground to hang out all day in and never leave. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We have been staying here for approx 9yrs. You are always greeted like family by the owners. They are truly happy to see you and want you to enjoy every minute of your stay. It's quiet, clean and the views are breathtaking. Pet friendly and serene. Chewonki is our "happy place" and we choose not to go anywhere else when we camp. Once you try it, you'll want to come back, I promise! We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Travel Trailer.

After a horrible experience at a nearby campground we where lucky to find Chewonki Campground. It is a little more expensive and worth every penny. The owners 2 sisters could not have been nicer and made us feel like we were home, they even offered us leftovers for dinner.

The sites are huge and private with amazing views, we had a hard time picking a site. It was quiet and very relaxing. We have already booked another stay next month. Our favorite part was the salt water fed pool. Very clean well maintained, the nicest and most private camp ground we have ever stayed in. Its a must you will not be disappointed. Beautiful setting. The sites are tiered and hard to pull out of. Had to back up plus it rained so it was very muddy. The women running the campground are awesome. We "heard" that they are revamping their sites to be more accommodating. The pictures on their web page are a tad deceiving. But still awesome. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was possibly the most beautiful campsite we have ever had. It was huge with a wide open view of the tidal river. Lots of birds in the patches of trees and bushes left standing between sites. This campground is quiet (we were the only people there for most of our stay). Nearly all the sites are large and grassy. You would likely have problems pulling out if it had rained a lot. There is not much to do and pre-teens and teens would likely be bored but it would be fine with small children. We plan on returning. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Absolutely beautiful place. Folks are very nice, especially one gentleman. Great " nature walk." Peaceful and pristine. All hookups worked well and site was mostly level. Word of warning: if it has rained and you have a rig that is of any size, you may have trouble getting out of your site. Worth the worry, but be warned. Beautiful place. Sites are huge and ideal for smaller rigs, pop-ups, and tents. Rated this a 10 because of the size of the sites, cleanliness, peace and quiet, attentive staff, great saltwater pool, pet friendly. Ideal place for people looking for a "state park" feel with all the advantages of a privately owned campground. Negatives are that there are limited spots for big rigs (tight corners too but not impossible to navigate), very limited Wi-Fi if you need it, and pay showers. This is our second year attending and would highly recommend. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park and most RVers would not have any issues here. However, we did not find it big rig friendly. The low trees and turns were very tight. There are only about 7-8 sites that are actually able to accommodate a large rig; more than 32 feet. Wi-Fi is only available at the office area. The visitor fee is extremely high, 8 dollars per adult and 6 per child even if they only visit a few minutes. The two sisters that run it are very cordial but firm and run a tight ship, which makes the campground nice for all. We stayed over one week and watched them work diligently all day long. Once a site was vacated they were there within 10 minutes, mowing, trimming, raking and preparing the site for the next arrival. Bathrooms are the cleanest I have found but need a bit of updating. We liked that soap was at the sinks. One can kayak but it is difficult at anything but high tide. If you have kids, there are not a lot of activities but plenty to do in the area. Pool is extremely large and is salt water. They do have strict rules but that makes it quiet and enjoyable for all. We camped at Chewonki Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
