Very friendly helpful check in guy. We were overnighting. Loop A is the only area with electricity, and our back in wood beam bordered site was level with good gravel, picnic table and lantern poles. Other A sites were not as level and some needed trimming back of tree branches that would seriously scrape backing in motorhomes. A very nice clean bathhouse with hot showers. Did not visit the other loops or the other park facilities. Fee was $29 plus a mandatory $6.25 transaction fee. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Motorhome.

Love this place. Quiet, very clean, great recreation opportunities. In the country but close enough to civilization to get items needed. The restrooms and showers are kept exceptionally clean. There is a great lake for swimming, boating (no gas motors though) and fishing. Wonderful hiking trails. A beautiful golf course is onsite and a casino is nearby for those interested. The only negative to this location is they don't have any sewer hookups but it is a state park and they seldom do. The do have a clean and convenient dump station at the campground entrance. They also have reduce rates for senior 62+. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The campground is clean as is the showers, and restrooms. The camp site is spacious & mostly sunny. The s1ite is conveniently next to the trail access for the beached lake, bathrooms, camp store, and scales & tails building. The hiking trails, aviary, and casino are short drive distances away. Park staff frequently passes which is reassuring. They make sure everything stays on the gravel pad! To discard trash you need to exit the main gate to dispose of. Water is adjacent to the site which makes toting water easy. The beached lake is shallow yet deep enough to swim and often has a lifeguard on duty. There is a dog swimming area and boat rental is next to the swimming area. Day visitors do not pay anything to spend the day with you at the campsite or use of any of the amenities, the car tag and access is free. This site does not have electric. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We had camped at Rocky Gap many years ago before the Casino was added to the park. The park is still lovely and the Casino crowd doesn't seem to use the hiking trails too much. The campground is quite a distance from the Casino, lodge, & restaurants (about 2.5 miles away via the lake trail) and has it's own beach and boat rental facilities along with a small snack bar. Our campsite was spacious and heavily wooded with electric hook-up only. Water faucets are available throughout the campground. The site was a bit sloped but not too bad. Swimming was very refreshing after a 5-mile hike around the lake. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped at Rocky Gap for 10 days with friends. We've stayed here at least once a year for the past 9 years. We love going to Rocky Gap. The sites are well spaced out and provide plenty of trees, foliage, etc. Surprisingly we didn't see the Camp Host this trip, but the Park Maintenance crew were readily on hand if you needed any assistance. Although we experienced a lot of rain this trip, Rocky Gap had a lot of activities available for the kids in our group. The bathhouses in the Ironwood loop were redone about 10 years and are still holding up fairly well. The Maintenance crews were cleaning the bathhouse at least 2-3 times per day which was nice, especially with the amount of rain and mud. They do offer a dump site which is located just outside of the entrance. I do agree with other reviewers that it can be difficult to use it prior to entering the campground. We have a 30 ft travel trailer and the u-turn area to make it to the dump station prior to entering is very difficult. We stayed in site 252 on the Ironwood loop and there were no hookups. Both the bathhouse and water spigot were fairly close and easily accessible. Campsites vary in size but again are well maintained for a State Park. The only negative was trying to back into our site, which had a very tight turn but other sites were more open. Our loop was the closest to the Casino and on Saturday night, we enjoyed listening to the concert being held at the Casino. It wasn't too loud either. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Aviary is an interesting and fun activity, especially for kids. For a dinner out, try "The Girls R Cookin" in Flintstone. Good food and affordable prices. You don't even have to hit the interstate to get there. On Sunday (Memorial Day Weekend) they had an all you can at Pancake/Sausage breakfast for a small fee.

Confusing signs. When you get off exit, DO NOT follow signs to State Park. Follow signs to Campground instead. Otherwise you will end up in State Park instead of campground.

No warning signs. DO NOT try to use the dump station before entering gate. The u-turn is too tight for big rigs!

Our surge protector said that there were slight grounding and reverse polarity issues at our power pedestal.

Checkout is 1 PM. Strong AT&T signal. Do not arrive at dark, no lights.

Something for everyone, lodge, spa, dining, casino, golf, hunting, hiking, beach, etc. Great park for friends to get together. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Motorhome.

This was our first trip in Maryland's Western Mountains and we found it quite beautiful. This State Park also includes a large casino resort hotel, but this was far away from the campsites and not noisy. We did agree with others that the signs for the campgrounds needed more signs. Coming down the hill, toward the resort, the campgrounds are to the right. As you travel to the end of the lake, there's a neighborhood up ahead, and a large parking lot by the lake. They need another sign telling you to keep driving into the housing area. The campground turnoff is further down. We were looking all over the parking lot for it before I disconnected the car and discovered it. Although we saw a few big rigs, we wouldn't recommend this for a large rig. We had a 40 footer, and in the Ash loop, space 9 was a great one, and we were in 15 which took everything we could do to get in and out safely. Lots of room once in the pull out. Very dark and heavy trees all through this camping area. With the beautiful lake nearby, but not visible, I wish they had some nice open campsites with the big views that can be had in this valley. Trash is deposited at the gate in huge dumpsters with stairs that climb up to the door, that compress the garbage and require you to turn a key to unlock the doors. Don't know what kind of bears they have here, that merits such a fortress dumpster. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the Ash loop (site #2), which was quite level. Sites are fairly private with a lot of trees between most sites. 30 amp only, several water spigots throughout the loop, dump station at entrance. Nice trail around the lake and up on the mountain. Firewood bundles available for $6. We came for the hiking and the casino which is IN the park, about 5 minutes from the campground. Currently the bathhouse in this loop is out of commission due to a lightning strike. Very quiet park even though our loop was full. My only complaint as the camp office opened 15 minutes after they were supposed to, so there were about 12 people waiting in line to check in. Easy access off of I-68. I plan on staying here again. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have spent several nights here each year for the past several years. We stayed in the Ash loop, which has 30 amp electric. Water fill stations are located around the loops with a bath house in the center. If you will need to refill your fresh water tank during your stay you may want a site closer to the water fill stations (the campground map on the MD DNR website shows where fill stations are in relation to individual sites). Most sites are deep, wooded and generally private. The campground continues to be a great option for families with plenty of activities, including the lake (swimming, fishing, boating), hiking trails, playground, nature center and aviary. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the Ash loop, which has 30 amp service. Most sites have at least some shade while others have a lot. There are water spigots throughout the loop and a dump station near the check-in hut. Several of the sites could handle any size unit. I wish this park had full hookups. Our RV is 40' long. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a great state park. We had no trouble maneuvering our 40' 5er to our site. Typical amenities for a state park where there is no water or sewer hookups. But that was fine for us since we were looking for a quiet getaway. There is only one loop that has electric so we opted for that since we were there for a few days. Very clean, very nice deep sites. With a larger unit you have to choose carefully but there are a number available for large units. Beautiful beach, bathrooms were fairly clean. The hiking trails are really good with spectacular views. It is a great place for families as they seem to have activities for the kids throughout the summer. We were there during the week so there was little traffic and no activities. The entire staff was friendly and helpful and surprisingly knowledgeable about RVs and what site may be most appropriate. We definitely recommend this park and will most certainly camp there again. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice campground for an overnight stay while traveling through. It's a bit busy getting in and out, as it is co-located with a resort golf course and a new casino. The signage for the campground could be better. Hint: Turn right at the first road off the highway (away from the golf course and casino) and past the park office. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the sites were spacious, level, and private, and the bathroom/shower facilities were clean and well designed. There are trails from the campground suitable for walking the dog. Note that this is a no-alcohol campground, but if you are discreet and act like an adult that should not be a problem. We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Paid MD Gold Pass rate. If you are a Senior it is worth the $10 to get this pass as we saved more than $10 in one night. Nice level site. Only problem was we were not given a gate pass and no message was left at gate when they closed. Luckily another camper let us in so we could get to the site we already paid for. Would definitely stay again as very easy off-on from I68 We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in a Motorhome.
