14 RV Parks near Frederick, Maryland

We stayed in their brand new pull through sites with concrete patio and hand laid stone fire pits and Adirondack furniture. The site was beautiful. But the site layout is too tight to pull through. Much easier to back in. Entry and exit from sites must be carefully planned because of narrow interior roads, tight turns, steep terrain, pot holes, untrimmed trees, and interior road layout. WiFi was super duper Uber slow. T-Mobile service was 1 bar. Rate above reflects fact that 3rd night is free. However dog charges and per person resort fees are still charged for 3rd night. - univmd

I selected this park because it was little more than an hour's drive to DC and the Smithsonian, and there are few decent campgrounds any closer. I generally choose to camp away from big cities. The staff was very helpful and friendly. However, Harpers Ferry KOA was a disappointment, especially given the resort pricing I had to endure. The campground itself, only slightly larger than the parking lot in front of the office, was basically a gravel hill, divided into tight, barely large enough sites, with such poor drainage that the week's spate of showers littered the grounds with perpetual puddles. The power supply for my site was poorly located, forcing me to use an extension cable. When I arrived, and when I left, the campground was mostly empty, except for a few units parked in a row apparently reserved for long-term campers. But that week bracketed Easter weekend, when the park was packed to the gills! There was so little room in the sites that campers plunked their play equipment down in the lanes, so that when I returned from errands, I had to wait on the site-holders to move the equipment out of my way. Clearly it's a popular park for weekenders and holiday campers, who can return home to brag about roughing it. But for a traveler like myself, who lives in his RV in constantly changing locations, this is not a park I will choose again. When I return to the Smithsonian, I will look elsewhere. - Jim Fulton
Nov 2017 - $45.00
We booked two sites online for our favorite area of the campground that is wooded. When we checked in we were told that part of the campground is closed for the season so we were assigned sites in an open area with many other campers who were there for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was like a parking lot. Cable TV and wifi reception were poor. Rate shown reflects a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" campground deal. We would have been even more disappointed if we paid the full rate for sites we didn't want. - ms5002h

Nice park and close to Gettysburg NP. Utilities were good except wifi was very weak at our site. New gravel has been put on many of the roads and they are in good shape compared to our last visit a few years ago. - RayN
May 2018 - $1.00
The campground is clean as were the showers. We have been here before and really liked it. The staff is great and really friendly. Some of the dog breeds they allow are a concern even though they have a leash at all time requirement. We did not want our small dog in with the very large and barking dogs in the pet area. One thing that detracts from this campground is the derelict campers parked at the storage area near the pet walk and the derelict campers up at the business near the entrance of the campground. Also a detraction, there appears to be some campers which may be workers/permanent residents that are unkempt sites. While the site was just long enough for our 36' fifth wheel, there was not enough area for our truck. We had to park in the back of the fifth wheel and were partly in the road. - sassien24502
Sep 2017 - $10.00
We arrived late at night. Found our registration in the late arrival holder outside the office. As we arrived at our site some fellow campers came over to aid in backing into the site at night. Nice shaded site with full hook ups. Very helpful staff in and outside the office. Large clean pool was very inviting after walking around Gettysburg all day. Overall a great stay. - Bower72
Dec 2017 - $35.00
The site was a mudhole. The roads highly confusing and once down a lane, hard to turn the rig. Most sites are Park models or trailers, so there is little choice. - DustyBob
Oct 2017 - $79.00
Trying to stay near Frederick MD, my usual favorite campgrounds were booked. Weekends in Oct are popular and we booked late, but we were able to get in here. I see why now. This campground is very tight, there were trailers within inches of the roads/stop signs throughout, and its a very uneven campground with all kinds of hills and valleys. The roads are very narrow bumpy paved, some gravel. Most of this place you can hear trucks thundering by, as its really almost right next to Rt 15. It is also full of permanent sites with sheds and junk thrown around. The "bathhouse" was a little tiny building, looked like cabin, 2 bathrooms, 2 showers. No hot water in one, and no paper towels to dry your hands except for the am we left. The only dumpsters were at the entrance and we were far from that. Glad we weren't staying a long time, would have had to keep hauling trash in our car. The only thing good about this campground is it's close to Gettysburg, but so are several other campgrounds. Glad we checked it out, but will never stay here again. - letsgorving
Jul 2016 - $64.00
Our site is right beside a major highway. We were NOT told that at the time of reservation (in my opinion this should be disclosed at time of reservation).
Prior to arrival and at time of reservation I asked if sites are level multiple times! I was told yes. Get here, front wheels are off the ground. I asked to move sites. So they gave me 3 other options. All too short for us and even more unlevel (for our 40 foot motor home). I see at least 20 sites that would have worked for us that are open, and have been open our entire stay.
Most sites are not level.
Grounds are un-kept. Grass is up to my shin. Were told their lawn mower is not working (no excuse in, my opinion when one can hire landscaping help).
Sewer connections are uphill; therefore not draining properly.
Bathhouse is not air conditioned or heated, not even ventilated. Semi clean.
Some permanent sites are unattractive ("junky"). Others are well-kept.
Had to pay in-full at time of reservation, no refunds. Now I see why! Lesson learned!
Thankfully we are out and about being tourist and not at the CG often. We will not return. Found several other campgrounds nearby that looked like a better fit for us. - JohnsonFam
Apr 2010 - $15.00
We stayed here with our Stockade group. There are only two large open field sites available. We stayed at site 1 which is closest to the bathrooms. There is a water spigot near the restrooms but there are no shower facilities. Each site has a fire ring, picnic tables, and a nice new BBQ and a large wooden cooking type area built next to it. It even has hooks for your lantern. The rangers were nice and came out to check on us a few times and the park is great. The disk golf course and hiking trails were a big hit. We would stay here again. - Cfamily
