My first time in a Maryland state park, so I wasn't prepared to decipher the 16 different camping prices, depending on electric/non-electric, state residency, Golden Age membership and the day of the week. Not sure what formula they use that causes most of the rates to end in 74 cents, payable only by cash or check - not the most convenient when the campground office is closed. To the ranger's credit, he did tally the fee box for the night and insisted on bringing me the $0.26 I overpaid. Only eight electric sites on the Acorn Loop, and we were lucky to snag one that wasn't reserved on a weeknight. Bathhouse looked very new and was fantastically clean. Sites are heavily wooded and quiet. Weak Verizon 3G service. We camped at Susquehanna State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Site was very shaded, and probably the most secluded feel of anywhere we've camped. Camping pad was nice and level, although the driveway was slightly sloped. One of our bunk ends extended beyond the pad into the woods, which was just fine by me. Nice amount of space in between sites. Short walk to bathouse, through the woods behind us. There were also several, very private, "walk-up" type sites for tents.

Facilities/Overall Park: Bath house was immaculate; by far the cleanest I have ever seen in a campground. Must have been recently renovated. Deer Creek day-use area was nice; had a big playground and a few pavilions. Picnic area was an open field with very little shade, and the amount of goose poop was unreal; like walking through a minefield. For that reason alone, I don't think I would host any events there. There is a little fishing pond there, which my husband and daughter enjoyed. We hiked back to the campground from here, which was a nice easy-to-moderate trail. The beginning was pretty rough for me, since I was wearing my infant son while navigating an uphill trail, but it quickly evened out. There are also plenty of areas to stop along the road in the campground, with access to the creek for wading. The water felt great, but the bottom was rather pebbly. There is a historic area in the park, with a working grist mill, mansion and other little buildings to view. Not really my thing, but was pretty neat. The views of the river are really nice from here. We camped at Susquehanna State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Stopped for crabs on the way home at Price's Seafood in HdG, which is a small, local-yokel type of place. Food was good, service was alright. You can view the water from their deck, and their parking lot had plenty of space for the PUP, which was great!

Overall Rating:

The sites were large and flat and each had it's own grill. The bathrooms were cleaned several times a day and were always very clean. My kids enjoyed playing on the large play areas and fishing at the pond. Next time we will try the river. We were very happy with the park and the park rangers were extremely helpful. We will be going back. We camped at Susquehanna State Park in a Tent.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at this campsite while doing our house search and we will likely never stay here again. Though our campsite was nice, number 23, others were not. Some campsites that were not in the Acorn Loop were literally on the side of the road, you had to set up your tent facing the main road. Bathrooms were not cleaned all weekend and there were 2 showers for the whole campsite in the Acorn Loop. You showered with bugs since there is no vents, the door didn't close all the way and nobody ever cleaned it as far as we saw. This campsite did have nice hot water in the showers but the sinks had 2 separate faucets for hot and cold so if you tried to wash your face at the sink your hands got really hot from using only the hot or really cold from using the cold. The office is a shed and you cannot buy anything besides wood which was very expensive for the amount you got. We camped at Susquehanna State Park in a Tent.

This is an old state park. The few sites with power are short and can be hard to get into. There are a few long sites without power. It is nice to be near river for both boating and fishing. The town of Have de Grace just 4 miles east is very interesting. We camped at Susquehanna State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2006 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Even by the sparse standards of Maryland state parks, the facilities at this park (and most particularly the campground restrooms) were rather antiquated, there is no camp store or nature center, and planned activities were virtually non-existent, thus eliminating almost entirely any sense of a distinctive campground identity. On the other hand, some of the sites were both spacious and private, firewood is available for delivery to the campsites, there are a number of scenic hiking trails (not always well marked), security was both apparent and effective, and the Susquehanna River/Deer Creek offer an abundance of recreational opportunities (our kids loved swimming and wading in the creek, a popular, "at your own risk" activity unmentioned on the campground's website). We camped at Susquehanna State Park in a Tent.
