Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We have been here 2 weeks and it has been outstanding. We are in site #10 - our back window is backed up to the Atlantic (about 10 feet from the edge of a cliff that drops off to the beach) while the front end faces the inlet to the marinas. With no one parked in #9 we have a 270 degree view. 180 if someone was in #9. It is spectacular. This location has remnants of WWII. There is an old observation tower that must have been used for sighting ships that could be a threat to the coast. There is also what appears to be an ammunition bunker. The concrete slabs are old and broken and cracked - all left over from days gone by. There has been a huge amount of beach erosion that got too close to the RV sites on the point and they had to stop using 3 of them. However there are some sites down there that are smaller and used for smaller RV's. The sites here, 9, 10 & 11 are fine for 40 + feet. There is also beach erosion here, but so far it does not threaten the RV sites. The water & sewer hook ups are on the wrong side of the RV and you have to cross them under the unit. Electric is at the rear. All utilities work fine. Our Verizon signal is good and we used hotspot. There is Wifi, but I wouldn't bother. Too slow. No cable, but wide open sky for satellite dish. The area - the town - is beautiful. If you like the look of 'New England' you'll have it spades here. The houses that line the beach are beautiful and when you cross the bridge there is a couple of restaurants. The Bridgewaye Inn is very good!!. The town of Marshfield has about anything you need in the way of groceries, restaurants etc. Hanover has a Walmart (not 'super'). Plymouth is a short distance (about 30 minutes) and a pretty town to visit. If you want to visit Boston, don't make the mistake we did. We drove in. Big mistake! There is a ferry that runs from Scituate straight to the Boston wharf. That's the way to do it. We would come here again and again. We camped at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Just driving around is beautiful! Great place to visit Plymouth and Boston from. Bring binoculars because you can sit next to your RV and watch seals play out in the water. You can watch the fishing boats and recreational craft. I have spent hours just sitting outside reading. The Bridgewaye Inn is a very good restaurant. My husband says that was best Reuben Sandwich he's ever had and I had a seafood dish that was wonderful.

We spent a week here in their "new" area at the crest of the hill. This used to be their overflow area but has been improved to full hookup. The views from Site #15 are spectacular! No shade but wonderful breezes and clear, clean satellite reception. Quiet, well landscaped area, very pleasant staff, and handy laundry facilities. Great location to get in to Boston, Plymouth, or Foxboro with no hassle on Hwy 3A. We stayed here in a Class A 40ft Motorhome and will definitely return. We camped at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Ditto PawPaw's comments. Electricity is available using the non-used circuit supplying site 10. Site 10 is the priority owner of either the 50 amp or 30 amp circuit and site 11 has use of the non-used circuit. Power pedestal for site 10 shows the 50 amp being used by site 10 and jointly used by site 11 for the 30 amp circuit. Additionally, it is doubtful that our site 11 would fit a unit requiring 50 amps there the 30 amp available suffices. The distance from site 11 to the power pedestal is approximately 35' so an appropriate extension may be needed. If you can stand 15 amps you're in business. However be prepared to make lemonade here and enjoy the views and short ferry ride to Boston.

P.S. #9 is most suitable for B or C model. No "A"s. # 10 & # 11 can handle any rig, however self level is helpful. We camped at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Boston is only a ferry ride away. All the usual Cape Cod attractions are easy to get to. Don't drive to Boston unless you really like lemonade.

As mentioned above - the location and view are incredible. Especially for the price.

Staff is focused on dealing with large day-use visitor population. Campground is not their specialty.

We were assigned a spot on the upper section. The spot was great for our longish TT, but the closed portions of the loop road made it a challenge to get the rig turned at a hard 90 degree angle to get into the spot. We had to have someone move the closure barriers before we could get into the spot.

(Loop road for campground is closed due to erosion causing cliff bulkhead to collapse).

It is a nice campground in an incredible location, but like many military CGs, suffers from lack of maintenance and priority compared to other MWR activities. We camped at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

This is located at the end of a peninsula with a million-dollar view of the River and beaches of Scituate on the West and the Atlantic on the East. Geographically, it is half way between Plymouth and Boston. Utilities are good but the advertised cable connection requires a Cable Subscription. OTA picked up many Digital Channels, and we had good luck with our Tailgater antenna (set on the roof) picking up Dish.

Our complaint is Administration: The staff is friendly, but not knowledgeable when asked questions. They were not sure about any questions asked, and do not enforce Military ID requirements for day visitors, who clog the roads every day, even parking in spots clearly reserved for paying campers. Despite complaining to the manager twice (about the deplorable conditions of the bathrooms), only a token effort was made to clean things up, and obviously no follow-up was made.

Some of the perimeter road is closed and access to the Atlantic side is off limits due to beach erosion and collapsing of the cliffs. If checking in, stop at the side of the road just before the registration building to find out where you will be going, or you may be forced to back up with your toad (as I was). We would come back, and hopefully the administration will improve by the time we do. A plan is posted for eventual stabilization of the beaches, but time will tell if this will be accomplished. In fairness, it will be a large and expensive undertaking. We camped at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Beautiful area. We had a space right on the cliff, but be warned, spaces along cliff do not have 50 amp. Also, connections are spaced quite far apart. Electric and water are near the cliff, sewer is back near street. Need long connections for each. We were able to access Wi-Fi from the pavilion with range extenders. We camped at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
