We had an ocean front Site right on the water. What more can you say? The campground is very clean and neat with friendly staff. There is a dump station and clean water. We camped at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in a Motorhome.

Fine beachfront camping. The beach is mostly rounded stone, with limited gray sand. When we visited the surf was high due to a recent hurricane. Expect a strong breeze most days, no shade, and if you are in one of the waterfront sites you may get salt spray at your site. There are even steel tie-down rings at the waterfront sites, although you wouldn't need those except in case of a tropical storm, and then campground would like be evacuated anyway. Waterfront sites are hard to get and need reservations far in advance. Good centrally-located bathrooms and showers. This is a popular campground. Out of state rate was $17 and Mass. residents pay $15. We liked it but the salt spray caused some rust on steel parts of our trailer. We camped at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first trip to Horseneck Beach. I chose a site close to the water spigot and also right next to the playground. When we arrived the site was a pull-through and very unlevel. I used 4 1/2" of wood and had to drop the nose of the camper all the way to the ground. Almost all the other sites were level. I was able to hook my water hose to the spigot that was five feet away from the camper. There isn't any shade here and with the wind we weren't able to put out the awning. My kids loved the beach and riding bikes. We rode to these old bunker towers that looked like they were from WWII. My daughter liked collecting seashells and my oldest son and I went on a bike ride on the "Healthy Trail" which is about two miles one way through the dunes. At night the sky was so clear we could almost see every star. My wife saw two shooting stars and the satellites were like airplanes. We would definitely go back again. We camped at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in a Travel Trailer.

This campground has about 100 sites and one row is right on the beach but most sites can if not see the ocean definitely hear it. Sites are pull through and can fit big rigs. No electricity but beautiful views with 600 acres of barrier beach and salt marsh. The beach at the campground is rocky but a short walk away or bike ride away one can find the public beach which is beautiful – a 2 mile long beach which is breezy all year round which makes it good for surfing and wind surfing. Great birding area one of the best in New England. Also a short bike ride or drive away is a fishing pier which is beautiful with the waves crashing over it. It is a beautiful area and we had a site right on the beach with great sunsets and rises and a clear, blue sky with temperatures in the 70’s in October. One needs reservations here for the summer and in the fall for the beach row but even on Columbus Day weekend one could drive in and get a spot in the back without a reservation. Bathrooms are OK and campfires are allowed. Nice and peaceful but could be noisy in the summer with a lot of kids. Make sure you check closing dates for any campgrounds in New England because most close at the end of Columbus Day weekend We camped at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in a Motorhome.

Horseneck Beach State CG is on the ocean. This is dry camping only and definitely not for everyone. There are water spigots throughout the CG to fill your tanks. At most, not all, of the sites you can reach the spigots with a water hose. We needed 100 feet, but in some sites it could be much more. There is also a dump station that is open 24/7. There are currently 32 sites on the water or across the street from the water, which are scheduled to be closed starting in 09. The park is under going a renovation, but the new configuration has not been decided yet and will not be ready for next year. You park parallel to the street on asphalt pads, right next to the street. This means anyone walking around at night talking or making noise will probably wake you as did the obnoxious female teenager screaming and talking on her cellphone outside our bedroom window after midnight just like it was 2:00 in the afternoon. Another negative are the very noisy construction generators that some run from morning until night. Quiet-time is from 10:00pm. to 7:00 am. On multiple days during our 8 night stay we saw dumpsters overflowing with trash around the smelly dumpsters. There are two new bath houses on the public beach which is a short walk from the CG. Since this area is known for large waves and a dangerous undertow, the public beach has life guards. The CG has people on 24 hours. Being a state CG, the rules state that there is no alcohol allowed on the property. None of the CG rules appear to be consistently enforced. This may be a rare occurrence, I don’t know, but on our last day we had a measured 10 ½ inches of rainwater in our site. A lot of tents were flooded in the CG. We were told there was a lightning strike prior to our arrival that wiped out the electronics in several motorhomes and several cars. Since the ocean water is the warmest in Massachusetts, despite the negatives, we will try to get a site here next year. There were only 3 big rigs here during our stay. We camped at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in a Motorhome.

This state park is one of the few true oceanfront campgrounds in Massachusetts, but it is
not for everyone. There are no hookups, only widely spaced water spigots. There is no shade. It can be very windy off the ocean. The campground itself is not very pretty because it is open scrub with a few sand dunes. The bathrooms are grungy, but we don't use them. Some campers can be a little rough. The staff is not particularly helpful and does not regularly enforce the rules they have. You may have to put up with your neighbor's generator noise -- there are no generator hours except for quiet hours. Oceanfront sites go fast, and reservations (through Reserve America) are necessary mid-June through mid-September. However, all sites are no more than a 5 minute walk from the ocean and beach. But its still our favorite campground in New England because of the beach and the ocean. The views are expansive, the beach is 3 miles long, with large dunes on parts of it. There is usually a good surf running with large waves. The beach is great for walking at low tide; too rocky at high tide. Swimming is often good in the coldish water, but beware large waves and undertow on rough days. There is a causeway out to an island with beach roses blooming in June and early July. There is quite a bit of bird activity in May and June, including nesting Piping Plovers, a protected species. Sites are paved/gravel pads off a paved road -- no sinking in the sand here! Sites are end-to-end, not side-by-side, creating more privacy. But there are no trees or shrubbery between sites. The town of Westport features old houses, stone walls and fields. There are several good restaurants (not fancy) including the Bayside with a view of the ocean and fields. We love it! We've visited several times a year for the past 5 years. We currently have a 33' motorhome which fits well on all the sites. We camped at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in a Motorhome.
