Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here the middle of July. It got pretty hot. It was the week before the fishing tournament. Pretty quiet until thurs when the fishermen came for the tournament. Rather than back in we nosed in so we could look out at Lake Thunderbay, a Nature Preserve. Only had electric hookup but dump station & potable water was available. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We were here after the Labor Day weeekend and the only campers. I would think during the height of tourist season there would be more campers. We stayed here to tour the NOAA faccility & take the glass bottom boat tour of shipwrecks. We chose a site overlooking the water and saw the swans in the distance. Electric only in this section. The front appears to have some sites for electric & water. We filled our fresh water tank at the area where the dump station is. 2 sources of water, potable & non there. It is quiet and a very short commute into downtown. I did get Wifi when we first arrived & checking in at the office but after that no. Put the antenna up and pulled in several tv stations. The only negative is the proliferation of Canadian Geese that eat & leave theri goood size product behind. This is not the first campground that has this issue but you must watch where you walk. Only cash or check is acepted for payment. I do not remember the site only that it was in the back overlooking the water so I will put 1. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the main camp area that runs along 11th street. This area has two rows of electric posts. Each post serves two sites for a total of four rows of campsites. Each site also has two 30 amp outlets available. Most sites work as pull thrus, but many sites have trees in unlikely locations (right in the middle of what should be the pad). We made the mistake of setting up in the row farthest from 11th street thinking it would be the quietest. That row has a gravel road running in front of it and there was a lot more traffic than you would expect with nothing happening at the fairgrounds. That raised lots of dust forcing us to keep windows closed all the time. We would have been better off in a row closer to the main road. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Excellent location for bicycling throughout city of Alpena. We camped on the back side of fairgrounds with our motorhome facing serene wetlands with a great view of a beautiful sunset, swans, geese and ducks. Paved bike path ran right by our parking spot. Very quiet, spacious, very few other campers. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

This campground was an unexpected gem. The campsites are all around the perimeter of the fairground. The best ones are at the back alongside a wildlife sanctuary along the Thunder Bay River. You can see swans swimming in the river, it is very lovely. The campground offers only electricity. There is a source of water at the dump station. The sites are mostly level. The fairground is along a bike path that goes through the town. We biked to the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center and the glass bottom boat shipwreck tour in about 10 minutes. They only take cash or checks. There is a very nice laundromat in town down by the harbor called Tons o Suds. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Very basic park, which was all that was needed for our time there. We stayed in one of the back sites by the river. The ones on each end are fairly level while the others, not so much. Those sites were pleasant because of the walking/biking path and away from the traffic noise; however, if you need to be by the bathrooms park in the front section. We stayed there to visit the Great Lakes Heritage Museum and to take the shipwreck boat tour. Both were fantastic. Strong Verizon cell/MIFI. A couple of miles from Walmart. Would stay again. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

I gave this county fairgrounds a 4 star rating because the sites were very nice, we had a view of the lake, and there was an excellent bike trail right behind us. The sites are level and the electric is great. This county fairground has a lot of sites to pick from, but we loved the sites with the view of the lake. The caretakers are very nice and very helpful. We would return here to this county fairground campground. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Truck Camper.

We spent a week at this campground at the rate of $110. Regular rate is $20 a night for less than 7. Water is available before you go to your site as well as a dump station. This is a typical Fairgrounds so we were treated to the first viewing of the Alpena 4th of July parade as they assembled at the Fairgrounds. We stayed in back along the river and weren't bothered by any road traffic. Care takers very friendly! We had a huge site! Would definitely stay here again!
