We stayed for two nights with another couple, who had the adjacent site. Our site was HUGE, level and easy to get into. The roads leading to and into the campground were easy to navigate. Our site was away from the water, and we were happy to be were we were. The sites on the water were much busier and noisier. It's a very popular campground and were happy to have the "quiet corner." The campground hosts greeted us and chatted with us for a good half hour - very pleasant and helpful. We swam in the lake. The water was clean, though very shallow at the beach so you have to walk out a way to get to deep water. There is no dump station. The hosts told us we could dump at the Bay Furnace campground, 10 miles away, which we did. This was in the opposite direction from our next destination so a bit of a nuisance. We camped at Au Train Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This park is a gem in the wilderness. Quiet, beautifully treed sites right on AuTrain Lake. Nice little Songbird Trail Hike through the woods. Clean rest rooms. We took our canoe out on the lake and caught perch. Would definitely return. We camped at Au Train Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

No showers at this park... Open May 15 thru October 1 Fees Site Fee $16 - Federal Recreation Passes (Golden/America the Beautiful) are accepted. Some of these sites are reservable. We love this campground. Very shady remote but if you have Verizon you may get cell service. Vault toilets but clean when we were there. Very friendly hosts. Not many fish, at least we have not caught many, but a beautiful lake and real real pretty in the fall. Stayed here many many times. We camped at Au Train Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a concessionaire operated campground within the Hiawatha National Forest on the Upper Peninsula. Considered "primitive" but sites are nice, private with lots of room. Water pump available at entrance. Vault toilets, no showers. Toilets are very clean and kept that way by the camp hosts. Whole park very clean, no trash seen. Lake front sites available, some with access to launch kayak or tie up boat near your site. Firewood for sale at camp host site or can use the "down and dead" rule. Generators allowed but not after 10pm. Paved road. All sites are shaded as you are in the forest. Very relaxing. Fishing in lake allowed but need license. Fire rings at all sites. Camped here for 4 weeks. Will go back there again. We camped at Au Train Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
