Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Eden Springs Campground & RV Park in Benton Harbor, Michigan, may well be one of our favorite small town parks! We are spending the month of August 2018 here and have found the venue quiet, well maintained, friendly and inexpensive ($375 for a month). I do not expect the prices to stay this low now that it has been "discovered". They are working on adding an updated restroom, dog park and other facilities. The sites are large, level and spaced far apart from each other. We pulled in with a 42' rig, pulling a 28' hybrid trailer (total 70') and easily pulled into our site without having to unhook. We had enough space to park a jeep in front of and and in back of the attached rig. The sites are designed so that no camper or RV faces a sewer connection. All of the hook ups are centrally located between two sites, with each rig having their driver side towards the hookups and their awning/entry sides facing the opposing side. Each site has a gravel space between them that could be traveled through, though campers all set up picnic tables, chairs and campfires there so practically there is no egress, thus privacy. This camp has the best WiFi of any camp we have ever stayed at. Some spots offer OTA TV and satellite reception. Ours did not as we chose to have a full tree canopy. Most of the sites offer full hookups with 30/50 amp service. The camp manager provides fire rings and picnic tables as requested, so if you need either, just let her know when you call. The RV resort is about 10 minutes from St. Joseph, MI and multiple rural wineries in the area (a favorite pastime for my wife Audrey). St. Joseph's is a small town located on Lake Michigan with excellent food, event venues and a lovely white sand beach The town of Benton Harbor itself once was booming city/community, which has come into hard times, but we did not have any problems traveling around that area. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

10 minutes from St. Joseph, MI & rural wineries. Behind the camp is a now mostly abandoned religious enclave called the House of David which was started in the late early 1900's (Google it!). Some interesting architecture & several restored mansions for the 5 remaining members.

Stayed 4 nights. Wifi super fast. No amenities but I still liked staying here. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Roads were gravel and dirt. Table and fire ring are available but we didn't ask. The park is attracted to a very old amusement park that has a small train that you can go for a ride but on the weekend. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

On the weekend the Round Barn winery has great music plus craft beer. Went to Warren Dunes state park of a swim and a walk in high sand dunes. The Piers at St.Joseph are a nice walk as well as the village. Two breweries The Livery and North Pier Brewing are worth a visit.

The roads in the area outside the campground are very damaged with holes so be careful.

This park has an interesting history you can read on their web site. The campground is old and dated but the new owner is trying to bring this park back. It could be a nice park as there are lots of mature trees around. Most sites are pull through with side-by-side utilities. It is convenient to I94. There is a large mall about 2 miles away. No cable but we were able to get the satelitte to work. Wifi worked well. Verizon was good. We did not have a fire ring or picnic table but the owner offered to bring them over. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice place for a short stay. Not a lot of amenities at the park. T-mobile phone service was good, in park internet service was great. OTA TV got 2 channels and satellite service was not available due to trees. They did charge a one time fee of $5 for a "pet fee". We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Huge shade trees, large sites, congenial hostess, fascinating history... We enjoyed walking our dog through the abandoned park area with its interesting buildings, fountain, railway tracks, steps, and paths. Renovation is underway. The landscaping is lovely. WiFi is excellent. We chose W&E only, our site was grass. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Easy to find, reasonable rates and the staff here is awesome. After that, sites are not level, they all seem to be buddy sites, our site was one in the "fire lane" and we almost got run over by people driving through our site a couple of times, people used the lane to walk through all day. Verizon signal was OK, AT&T was better and sat signal is possible at some sites. The wifi worked very good for us. The history of the park is pretty cool but you need to be there on a weekend to learn anything about it first hand. Benton Harbor may have a bad rep crime wise but we felt safe our entire stay. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

If campgrounds were rated like hotels, this would be a 2.5 star hotel with a 5 star rating. No pool and very few amenities, but clean and friendly. Internet was strong and cell service was good, Verizon. Place was charming and staff friendly. About 10 mins from the beach in St Joe. This was a one night stop for us on the way to Detroit. Access to the park is about 2.5 miles straight off I-94. The managers are very friendly and helpful. We had a blowout outside of Chicago and had the tire replaced after we got to the park. The manager offered to help me put the tire back under the rig on the spare tire holder. We found the park very quiet and the residents kind of stayed to themselves. Interesting to walk around the park and see the little train tracks and amusement park. No dog park, but plenty of room to walk the dog. We did not have time to venture around town but seemed to be plenty of restaurants and a mall. The configuration are shared power pole so your neighbor's door faces yours. I am running into more and more parks like this. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an old park that has not been updated. Showers were very old, crude and disgusting, paint peeling on walls, electrical extension cords lashed together in the restroom for lighting. Poor lighting overall in restroom. Gravel roads and dirt sites, very dusty. Utilities were poorly spaced, old and outdated. Cannot recommend staying here. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Eden Springs Park, owner at Eden Springs Park and Campground responded to this review

Thank you for your review. Your feedback informs me as to what should take priority as we update and renovate various aspects of the Park. One shower has been re-tiled, though all of the showers are scheduled to be re-done with tile. Sorry, we got very busy with customers this summer, so now we are back on that remodeling job. Wishing you safe travels.

I spent 2 months, Sept 11, 2016 until Nov 12, 2016, in the camp ground while working in the area. I found the campground to be very nice. I didn't have any problems. The history of the campground is interesting. The manager was very helpful and friendly. I will stay again next time I'm in the area. My rate was $375.00 per month. This is a nice campground run by very nice people in an area that we love to visit. It is also a campground that is being brought back from a state of neglect. The new manager is working diligently to address the maintenance issues, mainly the bathrooms. The showers had peeling paint, insufficient hot water and poor drainage. They were already working on those showers when we stayed here so I feel confident that these issues will be addressed quickly. In fact, we are already talking about when we can come back. The sites were very large and well shaded and fairly level. The utilities could have been better marked. There was a large cement brick to keep us from running over the sewer line. The Wi-Fi was free and speed was adequate. We had no problems with cell phone coverage with AT&T and Verizon. We stayed here on July 4th and it seemed that everybody within 100 miles stopped by to see the fireworks display in downtown Benton Harbor. That made for a very noisy night. However, we did not hear any fireworks within the park. Which tells me that management was very proactive about telling campers about the noise and we very much appreciated that. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We had originally planned on staying here for 2 months due to its price, but once we arrived, we saw a few "flaws" in our plans. There are A LOT of feral cats in the campground park, and the cat spray can be overwhelming at times to breath. We had taken a spot in the rear, as the other spots were too close to other RV's for my taste. The spot in the rear had plenty of room, even if another one moved in next to it. Our first night there, we not only heard, but felt the vibration of a stereo bass by the neighbors outside the park. They have it so low or whatever it is that makes it thump and vibrate, and just sit in their yard doing that 3-4 times a day--and sometimes at night. Not only do you put up with that, but non-stop barking dogs tied out on the other side of the fence and more thumping stereos that drive up and down the road. Within a week, we were very disgusted. We moved our RV up front to get away from the thumping stuff, but the cat urine is smelled on and off everywheres. A woman who lives in there, feeds them, which keeps them coming around daily. We could still hear the stereo, but the vibration wasn't felt up here. We weren't even in our spot for a day, and while we were outside, the person who lives in his coach was screaming obscenities about killing kids, blowing up playgrounds, ripping up rapists. Very vulgar and alarming. This went on for an hour, and I did report it to the manager, who was busy at that time making popcorn for the train rides they have there in the amusement park they have been restoring forever. She told me he was probably singing to music. I walked off. Call it what you want. There wasn't any music that was loud coming from his place. We decided to leave. The manager is new, doesn't know much about RV's, but is very nice. The area is very high crime though. Not worth risking staying in this area. We heard guns being shot our last night there. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This area is VERY high in crime. One of the "residents" here is questionable on his sanity (he likes to scream inside his place alot of vulgar disturbing things), a lot of poison ivy around the place, but the new manager is nice and trying to learn about campers, and the trains are actually fun to ride that are right there. No security--easy for people to come and go. Don't leave the park at night. Not safe.

Very nice campground. Lots of large, shady, pull through sites. Even though only 30 amp service we never had a problem with everything on. They have a small railroad that they are restoring. Restroom/showers are being remodeled. They have a large tent area for groups. Will be back. We camped at Eden Springs Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
