A nice state park with full hook-up sites. No wi-fi and no Verizon cell service (need to drive about 4 miles into Grayling). Limited activities, mostly hiking and biking. Nice playground. Well maintained park, without a lot of rules. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We camped three nights in Hardwick Pines State Park and found it to everything we hoped it would be. The trails through the old growth white pines is informative and breathtaking. The collection of buildings, tools, and other history artifacts will be an interest for all ages. Schools from around the state had made the journey for the end of school year field trip. The visitor center is beautiful and a nice place to finish the day after being outdoors. The campground was moved to its current location in 1994 and has full hook up for a number of sites which is a rare accommodation for a Michigan State Park. All the remaining sites are considered modern which had blacktop parking for your RV and 30 amp and 110 hookup. The park is very clean including the modern bathroom with showers. The camp host is around and very accessible. It seemed to be a great family park and with it's easy proximity to Michigan's larger population (an easy three to four hour drive) it filled up by the weekend. The area provides many hiking, and bike trails with a new 6.5 mile trail into the small town of Graying. The State of Michigan DNR has a field office just outside of the park that can provide additional natural information. The Ausable river and it's tributaries offer trout fishing and floating opportunities. The only issue everyone should be aware of is the Grayling (Crawford county) area provide training for the military and occasionally the quietness might be disrupted by the sounds of artillery and rapid gun fire. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here 5 days during the week while school is in session. All sites are good sized and have a paved pad to park on. There is a playground, 2 lakes for fishing and a logging museum with trails to hike or ride off road bicycles on. The whole park is great to ride bicycles on and there is a bike path to Grayling if you inclined to ride. All facilities very clean. Highly recommend this state park for a visit. Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful state park with modern, clean, private showers and restrooms. We enjoyed the ranger-led hike through the pines and the great taxidermy at the visitor's center. There was an event at the logging museum, which we enjoyed. The sites were shaded and private. Highly recommended. I would have rated their service 5 star if they had Wi-Fi. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Motorhome.

One of the nicest parks in which we have stayed. Very quiet, lots of trees and trails, clean showers and restrooms, easy to get in and out. Far nicer than many commercial sites. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Spent four nights here in space #75, which is a pull-through with full hookups (30 amp) and a fire pit. The Michigan DNR has a fantastic online booking system for the campground, complete with photos of each individual site, which was very easy to use. Spot was asphalt and mostly level. The park in general is quiet even when full, incredibly clean, well-managed, and spacious, surrounded by woods with many wooded sites. Very family friendly, dog friendly, and pleasant overall. Only downsides are lack of 50 amp and the fact that there is little to no Verizon signal in the park, and no wifi. It's a state CG, so I don't expect wifi, but not even being able to reliably make a phone call got a little frustrating. That's nothing that the Michigan DNR can fix, however--just be aware when you book that you'll be incommunicado. The park is so nice, though, you won't care. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Motorhome.

Great hiking, and very nice logging museum and paved hiking trails near the visitor's center. Park is large enough that you will need a a car or bikes to go from campground to visitor's area.

Third year here, large pull thru, full hook up and plenty of room for our 40' coach and car. Lots of room on each side, we had site 100. Only negatives are 30amp only and a very sloped site.
Sites and roads are all asphalt. Lots of biking trails available both paved and 15 miles of trails through the surrounding woods.
Would definitely stay again. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice state park not too far off I-75. Campsites are gravel with grass in between. Sites are well spread apart and some are shady, others more open. Wish trash dumpster was not so far away. Only real negative is very poor cell service. Even with Verizon, my calls kept getting dropped. Minimal, but usable Verizon data, however. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Motorhome.

Very interesting logging museum and walk through very rare small patch of big trees that were missed during logging days. Not within walking distance from campground, unfortunately, but well worth driving to.

Excellent place to stay. Quiet. Beautiful. Superbly maintained. Very clean restrooms and showers. Camp host on site to help with any questions. Nearby to excellent fishing and hunting. Cool logging museum within the state park. Fire pits and picnic tables everywhere. Can't say enough good things about this place. So much so, that I posted a YouTube video of it as well. I love this place. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Get your reservation early. We booked 4 months in advance and still could not get a full hook-up. If all sites had 50 amp I could give it a 10. Nice large, level sites with new fire rings & picnic table. Lots of families. New playground equipment and basketball hoop. You must have a Michigan Recreation Pass which is $30 for out-of-state. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground. Well maintained. Clean. Courteous staff. A quiet and peaceful setting. Good size campsites with paved pads and fairly private (many sites are completely enclosed by trees). Lots of trails and biking areas. We've camped here several times and will certainly go back. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground fairly close to Grayling. There is a very nice Visitor's Center just full of displays and information on the area. They also have a very nice little gift shop. AT&T phone service was non-existent in the campground, but a signal can be had in the Visitor's Center parking lot! Many nice hiking trails in the park. We would return here if in the area. We camped at Hartwick Pines State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
