We just returned from our 3 night adventure. Mother Nature tried to throw us off but we didn't let her. The park is very nice and clean. Site 62 was a beautiful site but it is a VERY windy site when the wind is coming off the lake. The direction of the wind went right toward where the campfire ring is. The restrooms and bathhouse were kept clean and I saw staff cleaning a few times a day. We stayed during the week and we never waited to shower when we were ready. At the shower house they have an outdoor sink that you can use to wash your dishes. There isn't a playground but with a beach site like we had the kids didn't even notice. The beach is rocky going out into the water so next time we'd bring water shoes of some sort. Due to the weather, the waves of the lake were too high most of our trip to let our younger kids swim but they still had fun. The wood they were selling in the park for $6 was wet. We bought our wood at the lumber yard in town for $10 and got a much larger bundle of dry wood. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Tent.

We entered this park without a reservation. There was no one at the gate but there was a yellow phone to connect to a reservation center. They could assign us a site or we could go in, pick an empty site & come back to the phone. When we went in & picked our site, we came back & the site was "unavailable". There was a campground host, who was out. There were no maps to show where to fill up with water or where the trash was. Paved site pads are only at the waterfront sites and are super short. Most sites are just a patch of grass. We were told a ranger would come to collect the daily fee, but that did not happen. We had site 50 & the view & beach access were remarkable. The bathhouse was very modern with individual rooms for showers which was very nice. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Travel Trailer.

It's the beach that makes this place special. Otherwise, it's an ordinary Michigan State Park. The beach is wide, clean, and expansive. The water temperature during our mid-July trip was 70 degrees. The one modern restroom / shower house was always busy so occasionally there was a brief wait for an open shower but they were nice: single / family occupancy with privacy. The facilities were reasonably clean but with the building being right off the beach, it would be nice if there was an additional cleaning around dinner time because for those of us that like to take pre-bed showers, there was some sand and mud (not a big deal though.) The park has (one) mile-long hiking trail and that's about it. There's a small playground near a second, public access beach but not one in the campground; perhaps one will be installed where the old shower house was, across from site #193. In addition to the old shower house being removed, so has the water spigot at that location so disregard any maps that show otherwise. Firewood can be purchased in the campground at $6 for a fair-sized bundle and there's also a vendor who makes evening visits that will deliver to your site larger bundles ("rick"?) for $30. There is a nice canopy of trees throughout. The thing that left us less than impressed was the site arrangement. True to Michigan State Park form, there's no real pad for your camper, so many people set up any which way, which resulted in less privacy for others and lent itself to large groups and parties, particularly on the weekends. It was pretty ridiculous on a Saturday night with tons of cars parked everywhere and loud noise until just after midnight. We wish Michigan State Parks would better identify where and how campers are supposed to be parked in order to prevent this. Otherwise, there tends to be some campers that are partially set up in other people's sites. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There adjacent town of Harrisville is very small with just a couple of restaurants and gas stations, but there is a Post Office. East Tawas is approximately 30 miles south but worth a drive and has plenty of shopping, as does Alpena which is about 30 miles north but not as pretty. This is a quiet part if Michigan so expect to slow down your pace of life a little.

This park is well run, clean but busy on the weekends, especially in the beach area. They have beautiful waterfront sites, but good luck trying to get one as they are booked months in advance. Michigan state parks force you to buy a passport to get into the park, which puts the camping rate up from the normal $23.00. Michigan campground designers appear to have the poorest designs as they have placed a huge new restroom right on the beach, it blocks the view of the water, not to mention it occupies 6 or 7 campsites that would be waterfront. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is how you treat campers! Nice spacious, treed site with grass and fine gravel pad. Older but clean bathrooms and showers. Awesome beach area, guy drives around the campground selling very reasonable priced firewood right to your site! Sewer pump out hose is already connected to the dump station. Don't need to get yours out, makes it a bit quicker. Just a few little things that I noticed. Staff and management work harder than other places we been to. We not only acknowledge this: we appreciate it! We stayed at site #26 and would highly recommend it. A bit of a walk to the bathroom and a bit longer to the beach but paved bike path behind our site made it easier. I've been to quite of few Michigan State Parks over the years, but this is one of the best! Negative is the town of Harrisville, cute but not much there. Alpena and Oscoda about 30 minutes drive in opposite directions, have just about everything you will need. No doubt we be back! We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful campground. It is located right on Lake Huron. Some sites are small, but the campground is wooded and gives you that camping feeling! I would definitely recommend a lakefront site. This would have made all the difference in our trip. The lakefront sites are amazing. The beach is beautiful! It is very shallow, which was nice for the kids because they could go out forever and it would only be up to their chests. There is a playground and 2 bathhouses that were kept very clean. There is no store on site, but the town is within 1 - 2 miles and has a gas station, an IGA, a dollar store, a pizza place and an ice cream shop. We will camp here again next summer if we can get a lakefront site. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This is one of the best state park campgrounds in Michigan. We liked the large sites and the lake access. There are lots of trails, some that go as far as Harrisville so there is a lot to see either walking or riding you bike. We have 3 dogs and were able to walk them anywhere in the park without problems, which was nice. One must realize that in most Michigan state parks there is no water or sewer hookup, but, outside of that the park is great. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We found this park to be well laid out with many sites on Lake Huron and several pull-thrus just inland. Pull-thrus are large but trees can be a problem, we found it easier to back into our site. Roads are paved but somewhat narrow with fairly tight turns for larger rigs [we have a 40' Class A] but we had no problems. Like most State Parks no water or sewer, but 50 amp at many sites! The dump station is in a odd location requiring a some tight turns or a lap around the campground. A good place to base camp from to explore the Au Sable River and Huron National Forest. The town Harrisville is quaint with a nice marina. Reservations can be made on the Michigan DNR website. We would stay here again. We camped at Harrisville State Park in a Motorhome.
