This is a small camping area that is part of a nice city park. It is within walking distance of the park's beach and playground, a very good bakery, and the downtown. Sites are on the water or just above the waterside row. All are wide and include patio space as well as a wood deck that is covered and a picnic table. All have full hookups and a fire ring. Wood is available at the office. The office person is excellent and knows the area well...follow his suggestions for sightseeing. There is no laundry and there are no showers or campground toilets but the beach toilets are nearby. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Site 15 is not level although all the other sites appear to be level. This site is pretty short and the rear tires will be off the ground if you have a big rig. Bring lots of boards to prevent that from happening. Large plants have grown up around the hookups, so you may need a saw also.

Although this park is over looking a river, none of the sites face the river. Be careful with directions getting here from some GPS units. You cannot get in from Canal Street. That is permanently blocked. As stated in the other reviews, this is a small park all paved in asphalt. One row is next to a road, so expect some noise. Wifi is fair. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

The signage to the office is poor. When you turn in, do not stop at the first building. Go on down the road. The campground is terraced so everyone has a view of the water. Unfortunately it was designed as back-in sites so your windshield is not facing the water. Each site has a covered picnic table and another seating bench. The campground was quiet and we enjoyed our stay. We would camp here again. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pleasant park on the river between Houghton and Hancock overlooking the lift bridge. Sites are adequate in size and utilities, including WIFI and cable TV, worked well. Each site has a bench facing the river and a covered picnic table. Little road noise. This place was built 30 years or so ago when RVs were all trailers, so the hookups are positioned at what would be the rear for trailers backing in. If you are in a full sized motorhome and want to look out the windshield at the river, you will need long hose and cord and lots of sewer hose. The best sites for motorhomes are 2 through 10 as they are up high with no sites between them and the river and they are longer than the other sites.

Sites 11 through 15 will work for large motorhomes, but the river view is obstructed by trailers in the sites below. Nonetheless, it is an excellent park and in a great location for visiting the Houghton area. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful sites right on Portage Lake. All are back-in. Utilities worked fine. Verizon signal strong. Campground Wi-Fi didn't work at site 9. Sites are paved and slope a little uphill but pretty level side-to-side. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table with cover and a separate bench for sitting and enjoying the view. We walked the paved path along the river into Houghton where there are a lot of good restaurants and bars. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pick up the self-guided walking tour pamphlets for Hancock and Houghton and enjoy the architecture.

Go to Calumet. Visit information center, Visitor Center, Theater and other historic sites and museums. It is a great little town.

Get info on the Keweenaw Heritage Sites and visit them.

Go to Copper Harbor, Fort Wilkins, etc up the peninsula.

What a gem of a park! Beautiful well-maintained park along the Houghton canal with covered picnic table/bench at each site. The park is limited to self contained RVs because there are no bathroom/shower facilities. There are also no laundry facilities, but there is a nice laundromat (Loads of Fun) nearby. They advertise free wifi but it never worked for us. Our Verizon mifi worked fine. The campground is located next to a city park with playground and beach. We stayed here 2 weeks and will be back for a longer stay. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

A beauty of an Rv Park, we were right on the water with beautiful scenery, a public beach is right near by. Full hook up on site. It is a little tricky getting into the park with a sharp turn but not bad. The hills in the area are great for beauty. The park is very clean, not for tenting though as they do not have park restrooms and showers. Park supervisor was very nice. We will go back for sure. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sadly, we only had the opportunity to stay here for 2 nights. Not only is this area an incredibly wonderful place to visit, the RV park here was impeccably clean, well maintained, offered all amenities besides showers (you'll need to be self-contained if you want to be clean! Haha!), and the greatest hosts ever. They were super helpful in offering places to visit, and in addition to that, we were able to spend a little time visiting with them and getting to know their stories. Within 2 minutes of pulling up to our spot, both of our kids (16 and 10) said "We're only staying two nights here????" Trust me, had our trip allowed a longer stay, we'd be staying. The playground with the huge slides and sand play area was quite entertaining (for us big kids too!), and there are restaurants and shops within a very short distance. We can't wait to return here. 2000 characters is never enough to explain in detail how much we enjoyed this beautiful park. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a well maintained city park campground, with very helpful hosts. They know the area well and can tell you the best places to visit as well as the best places to eat! Roads are paved as was our level pull-in site. Big rig access was good. There was a little road noise during the day but at night it was quiet. Privacy between sites with grass and a few shrubs. A few sites had shade trees, ours did not. Plenty of space for our towed. All sites overlook the Portage Waterway and have a lovely covered deck with picnic table and park bench, there is also a fire ring. This is only a small campground with 22 sites and the sites are tiered so everyone gets a wonderful view of the water. There are no bathrooms or laundry. Pet friendly but dogs are not allowed in the city park. Wi-Fi was hit and miss and cell was marginal. Food stores and Walmart are just down the road. Houghton is a gem of a historical town, so much to see and do, with some wonderful places to eat, we can highly recommend Joeys Seafood and Grill. There is plenty of sightseeing and the drive to Copper Harbor is a must. We would stay here again. Dropped one point because of Wi-Fi.  We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is our second visit to one of the nicest campgrounds we've stayed in anywhere. Every site has a covered patio deck with a picnic table and bench, and excellent views of the Portage Canal. The campground is quiet, peaceful and we wish our schedule allowed us to stay longer. We would DEFINITELY stay here again. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice city run RV park. Only 22 spaces so make your reservations early. Camp host spent time explaining area attractions as well as location of grocery, Walmart, etc. All sites are back in with covered deck to the rear with bench & picnic table. Sites 1-10 seem to have a bit more lawn area. Sites 11-15 are off the water but have an elevated view of the Portage Channel. 16-22 are on the water but with limited lawn area. We had no problems getting our 40 foot, 4 slide motorhome in site # 19. Stayed three nights and explored the area with all it's fascinating history. Could have easily have spent a week! We will be back! We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bingo! What a great destination park on the Portage Canal. All sites have full hookups with 50 amp electric and cable TV. Most sites are directly on the waterfront and have their own private covered deck, while a half dozen or so are at a high elevation looking out over the lower sites providing great views of the canal. Roads and sites are asphalt. There is a lot to do here besides shopping the downtown area close by. Across the lift-bridge is the sister town of Hancock and access to the upper Keweenaw peninsula towns and villages of Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor, Calumet, Copper City and others. In Houghton the NPS has headquarters for the area and the NPS Ranger III takes passengers to Isle Royale for visits. A favorite passtime at the park is watching the pleasure boats cruising up and down the canal, some pulling water skiers. Next to the park is the city park with swimming beach, children's playground, etc. We booked our reservation for 6 days but extended another 2 weeks. Be aware there are no restrooms in the RV park, hence no tenting. For this reason we gave the park a "9" rating. We definitely will return. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Not much to say except the only place to stay in the area. Facilities are excellent with full hookups at each site and WI-FI is excellent. Recommend reservations at this park as it seems to be full all the time. Lots to do in the area as well - have stayed here before and will stay here again. This is a fairly small park with 22 back-in sites on the shore of the Portage River. The river is quite wide here; probably about 1/3 mile across. The sites have a nice view of Hancock, MI across the river. Each site has a picnic table on a covered deck looking out at the river. Sites are fairly small and blacktopped. They are not as level as we'd like, but by positioning the coach carefully we were able to make it work. Utilities were some of the best we have seen. Wi-Fi was good. The entrance road is very narrow, but not a significant issue. The adjacent city park is nice, but small and no dogs allowed (in the city park), but one can walk along the river for a mile or so past the park. The RV park was full while we were there, and even to get three days we had to move once. Make reservations well in advance! The park staff was very nice and most helpful. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Motorhome.
