9 RV Parks near Ionia, Michigan
Aug 2016 - $41.00
Park suffers with lack of maintenance. Many things have small problems which make the overall stay less than desirable. Power bad in hot long holiday weekends on this string. Keeps blowing the main 100 amp breaker. The campground manager makes up her own rules as she goes. Some people are allowed in with a certain breed of dog while others with the same breed are denied. Pool is big and nice but closes early if the manager wants to go to bed early or kids get too loud and it affects the owners weekly geriatric country music jam that never changes and campers don't go too anyway. Events are run by seasonal campers and lack planning and execution. We stayed all summer and won't return till the park is under new management. Just look at their web site. Rarely updated with no activities listed. There is little or no maintenance budget at they have a hard time attracting seasonal campers. Grass goes un-mowed. Gravel pads flood and have weeds growing through them. Park suffers with a bad reputation in the town of Ionia and people don't want to work there. Wi-Fi rarely works. Don't post a bad review on their site or it's immediatly removed. Rates went up to $41 a night last year and $3,150 for a 6 month seasonal. This is a lot of money for what you get. Park is Ok for an overnight stay but definitely not a seasonal. There is a reason that other parks have huge waiting lists and this park has tons of availability except on holidays. Buyers beware !!! - netcomdude
Aug 2016 - $41.00
We have stayed here before and were disappointed this year to find that the sites have not been taken care of as we remembered. All the sites and roads are gravel which is fine. However, many of the sites and raod edges are overrun with grass and weeds to the to the extent that for some, it is becoming hard to differentiate between the gravel and adjacent turf. Drainage after a rain also appears to be a problem with standing water.
All the facilities such as the pool, office, etc., are beautiful and show excellent care and presentation. Staff at check in were very helpful.
I hope they can get back on track with the grounds keeping and drainage. We shall see. - DavidO

Best thing about this place was the nearby town of Ionia, MI, with some interesting, old architecture and a still-surviving old downtown. Although the structures at the park (pool, shelter house, camp store/office, bath house) are clean and newer, everything else here is just 'average'. Gravel interior roads, sites were formerly gravel, but our site was mostly just grass, and an average distance from the neighbor's site. There is very little shade, but they do have some trees that will mature.
They did have an ice cream counter, which was nice on the first night, but on the second night, we went to get a little treat about fifteen minutes before closing and the lights were off inside, and we heard the clerk announce to some kids that they "should not start playing video games, 'cause she was gettin' ready to close", so we took that as a sign that she'd already washed the ice cream scoops, too. Also, it was clear they didn't have any inside firewood storage, as when I asked if they had any dry firewood (it had rained buckets), I was soundly laughed at; shame on me for not knowing that they store all their firewood UNCOVERED.
The place looked to be 50% seasonals (some VERY nice, some not so much...), and mostly locals, at that; lots of driving in and out by same vehicles. There are a LOT of kids, as the park sort of caters to that. On the plus side, cable is good, 4g LTE on ATT is good, good water pressure, the park is close to shopping, local restaurants, has easy access to interstate, interior roads are wide. So, weighing the good and the bad, it's just sort of 'average'. - fastalker64

Very friendly management. The lake is very nice and well maintained, with lots of people swimming in it, and a very cool lighted fountain in the middle for nigh time enjoyment. Close to the highway and easy to get to, but once you're there it feels like you're a long ways away from anywhere. A good wholesome campground. - 2gaycampers

We have stayed here many times as it is a little over an hour from home. The campground sits off Sessions Lake which is a small "no wake" lake making it great for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. There is a nice two-slot boat launch. They rent canoes and one person kayaks. The beach is nice, however the wild geese can sometimes make it a mess. There is a bath house located at the beach also. The recreation area also has a picnic area along the lake with a nice fishing pier. There are nice hiking trails that encompass the lake and surrounding area. Last year they finished resurfacing the main road which was terrible prior. The campground also has an equestrian camping loop. All sites are spaced well apart and have nice cover with the sites in the lower loop having more shade. There is a two-slot dump station at the campground entrance. All sites are paved, with 20 and 30A electric, fire rings, and picnic tables. There are central water spigots located around each loop. There is one bath house with (4) showers and (1) HCP shower. The water pressure is good also. The bath house is relatively clean and the rangers come mid day to tend to it. We were in site #12 this last visit, but have been in many different ones over the years. Some have more room than others. I haul a boat along and they are not concerned if you park vehicles or boats on the grass. Ionia is just six miles down the road where there is a Walmart, Meijers grocery, and many other establishments. Overall the recreation area is pretty quiet as it is five miles from I-96 and there are no large cities close by. - Uncledon
Jul 2014 - $19.00
Site 45. Stayed here with another family over July 4th weekend. The park is nice and appears to be well maintained. The camp hosts had a list of events planned for the kids which was well received by the four children camping with us. That all said, the park has some problems. First, and most annoying to me, the firewood sold at the ranger station ($5) was so wet that it was almost un-burnable. Second was the lack of rule enforcement by the rangers. There was lots of noise after 11:00 PM, the posted quiet time, as well as many campsites with more than two vehicles which caused for very congested camp roads. There were barking dogs all night and people shooting off fireworks well after midnight (sign posted saying "No Fireworks"). It's sad that such a beautiful location is ruined because it's so poorly managed. It is unlikely that we will stay here again. - Brewstar
May 2013 - $19.00
This campground is set way off the road and provides a very nice country setting. A variety of different lots to choose from. Many of them shady and private. We took advantage of the hiking trails and really liked the part through the woods and over the creek. The bridge was out on the trail, but I think it just made the hike more fun. The beach has improved with much better sand than the previous year - although it is a distance from the campground and you will probably need to drive there. There were a lot of fishing boats on the water and people seemed to be reeling them in. There is also a horse campground too, so if you like horses take a walk through there. The playground has little to offer with only swings and a sandbox. The bathrooms were clean and the showers appeared to be too. Roads were paved so decent bike riding with a mountain bike trail. People were very friendly and most were local. - focchick
Jul 2016 - $38.00
When I called to make the reservation 3 weeks prior, the person I spoke with was impatient and rude. Come to find out, it is really a "Seasonal" occupied campground, andd they aren't too happy to have us weekenders. And the Seasonal sites are a mess! We arrived late afternoon on Friday 7/22, it was 92 degrees. We had a nice private and shady site (110). We connected to the electric and water, within 20 minutes the power (A/C) shut off, my husband (an engineer & electrician) restarted, this went on a few times. He called camp maintenance to look at it, they said it was us (funny, has never happened anywhere else). 45 minutes later the power for the entire campground went down for 2 hours. Good we had a generator. We have a small dog, had planned to see area but could not leave her in the RV without A/C. We decided to go for a swim, pool was being shocked because it was so nasty. A/C worked enough to sleep on 30 amp (paid for 50 + the add $2.50 a day if you're going to use A/C, really? yes, really). We left first thing the next day. I really thought it would be a lovely experience, Christian campground on a lake, no one was kind or helpful, no one was friendly, not even the campers. Disappointing. - GR Peggy
Sep 2011 - $36.00
Sites very narrow. Paid regular price with no discounts offered and many amenities already closed before end of season. The water at this campground is awful, has awful metal smell and taste even after filtration. Most campsites were permanent resident campers with many in need of repair. Free Wi-Fi is 20 minutes only then $ after that. The entertainment for the evening was the drive by of the numerous golf carts. We would not stay here again. - McNutt
Jun 2010 - $35.00
Christian family campground, nice folks out in the country. Very quiet with mostly seasonal people except on the weekends when it gets busy. If you are looking for a nice family camping trip, this is a good place. - racomarley
Jul 2012 - $32.00
We booked our family vacation here based on their website, which promised so much but delivered so little. Campground smelled of dead, rotting meat. Pool was green but was promised "We're working on it." Electrical boxes worked sporadically. Dog waste from previous campers not cleaned before we arrived. The worst though, is the customer services. Their brochures highlights activities available telling you to get more information at the office. When I inquired at the office the girl snottily said "Did you get a brochure at check-in?" I answered yes but I had questions. She tells me "to go read it again or I suppose I could sit here and recite it for you." When we complained to the manager he admitted to hearing the conversation but he states his hands are tied, the owners are aware but won't change. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to spend your hard earned money and time! - Vanroller68
Jul 2010 - $35.00
Whoever put their glossy brochure together should get an award. This is an old worn out campground with the bare essentials. The main pool was green when we arrived, but we were assured it was being attended to. It is no longer green, but it is now 11am, and I have yet to see anyone cleaning or testing it in 2 days. So far I have been here 3 days, and they have yet to clean the site next to me, as there is garbage still on the site. They are skimming the edges of false advertising. If you are looking for a campground with all the bells and whistles, this is NOT it. - eener11
May 2010 - $32.00
They have many activities that you don't normally see at a campground. These include canoeing & tubing on the Flat River, horseback rides and a 9 hole golf course. Since I stayed on Memorial Day weekend they also had a number of special activities for the kids. Most of the sites are very large and clean with no pads but most sites have a nice grass surface. They have 30/15 amp electric, water, fire pit and picnic table at each site. No Wi-Fi is available but Verizon cell and data service was good. I did the canoe float down the river and an hour horseback ride, both were very enjoyable. While the roads are dirt and a bit bumpy I had no problem with them going the posted 5mph speed limit. Problems I had include there were constant low voltage problems (temps were in the mid 80's and the campground was full) and my Surge Guard shut off at least a dozen times on my 2nd day. While they are located on the Flat River, there is no way to easily access the river upstream so you can float down to the landing stop, you have to take their bus, for a fee, to a drop off point a number of miles away. They could provide a spot upstream that could be walked to if they would just turn the far end campsite into an access point. Quiet time was not enforced with loud parties going on until after midnight. Even though they had a camp store close to the camping area you couldn't make reservations for their activities, you had to drive close about a mile to the main office. The firewood they offered for sale was close to worthless, it just wouldn't burn. As much as I really wanted to like this campground the negatives outweigh the positives. I doubt that I will return - HobbyTalk
May 2015 - $32.00
We've stayed here in our trailer & now in our 5th wheel. These folks are friendly & accommodating. The community is also very family friendly.
The riverside sites can not be beat.
We book many of our Holiday Weekends here. - jbgrace
Jul 2011 - $28.00
Very clean, grassy, peaceful, quiet & well maintained. They even spray nightly for mosquitoes. Lots of seasonals at this park, and all that we talked to were very friendly. Not a lot of frills here, but if you like good old backwoods camping like we do, then this is it! Currently there are no showers, but we see the construction happening to build what appears to be a nice large shower facility. Check-in was fast and easy. The fire pits are all positioned on riverside, with plenty of distance from RV. We will definitely come back soon. - 2gaycampers
Aug 2009 - $27.00
The sites along the river were very big and well marked. Each had a fire pit and picnic table. The sites were grassy and well maintained. They do not have any showers or flush toilets. They do have a small playground and a small above ground pool. There aren't many 'extras' at this campground, but if you like to sit next to the river and fish right at your campsite this the campground for you. Very quiet and relaxed atmosphere. They did advertise a pool table, ping pong table, etc located in a rec building, but that building was never open when we were there, I am not sure why. Overall an enjoyable stay. - redheadmichigan
Aug 2010 - $27.00
Do not let the pictures on the website deceive you. This is not a picture of where you would be staying unless you are a seasonal camper. We stayed there and basically we were camping in a large yard. There were hardly any shade trees. The 'heated' pool was freezing cold. The women's shower was ice cold. There is not a beach on the lake, just a small spot with some of the seasonal campers pontoon boats are docked. There was a very a small dock to fish on but the lake was to shallow and very weedy to fish off the dock. I would not recommend this campground to anyone. - redheadmichigan
Apr 2017 - $33.00
Not full hook up, old pool, overrun on weekends. Old bathroom/showers, 30 amp only, 2 dump stations, only 1 operating. This place needs a serious update/ overhaul. Staff are friendly! A 2 star rating at best. Safe, yes, needs serious updating. - Good citizen
Jul 2015 - $33.00
Paid, but did not stay, left Shortly, office closed. Restrooms 1930 style and filthy. Light was one tired yellow fluorescent full of bugs and spiders over the filthy sinks. Could not see in toilet area, too dark. Paint peeling, stink. A few Seasonal die hard folks all hard wired and plumbed, so they could care less. This type of place gives RVing a Nasty name. Roads are Chuck holes and full of mud everywhere, hilly ground,no level spots. Has not been maintained in years. Run, don't walk away from this place. The rating in the Good Sam book has to be for the golf course or else one of the reviewers wasn't seeing correctly. - Oldfart
Sep 2013 - $30.00
This park is nothing to write home about, but it served our needs for a visit to the Grand Rapids area. There was a fair amount of confusion over site boundaries, and it seemed that other campers were scattered around the park in a rather disorganized fashion. Getting level in our site was a bit challenging, but do-able. - CaptainNemo
Jul 2007 - $26.00
Recent new owners turned a "drinker's haven" in to a family oriented campground. Few amenities, but very quiet. Little bit of a drive from the expressway, but it was one of the closest campgrounds to Lansing, MI that had availability in short notice. - The Ketters
