If you want a home base while visiting the Mackinaw City area, I recommend this park but only if your RV is self contained. Besides water and electric hookups and a dump station, there are no amenities. There is a men's and lady's toilet but they are pit toilets only. Still, for the prices in this area's other parks, this place is a blessing! The only thing is, there is no office with an attendant, therefore no one to offer any help if you have problems. When we arrived, no one greeted us until we had set there a while, wondering where we were supposed to go. Finally a lady came and pointed out our site. It was quiet at night, surprisingly enough even though located between 2 main roads. About half the sites had some kind of shade, but ours had none at all. Also, there are no "rules for the park" given out so short of other campers politeness you are out of luck. There was one group who had at least 2 little dogs in a cage and they yapped pretty much all day...the owner of the dogs made no attempt to shut them up. Very annoying indeed. The park owners have a pen of chickens behind all the RVs and advertise eggs for sale, which is nice, but what struck me as the ultimate in ridiculousness is that they had a coin feeder mounted on the side of the cage so that YOU could PAY to feed THEIR chickens!! I guess that's good for them if it works! That way they collect money from when the chickens eat and also from when they sell the eggs!! Overall this a a place to park off road with NO amenities. Dump station which was nearly directly behind our site. I would have thought it would be better located a distance from paying guests. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is lots to see and do here in this area of Michigan but all the attractions do have a hefty entry fee for retirees especially. Even so, the views here are gorgeous.

Located approx.. 3 miles off I-75, 2 miles from downtown Mackinaw City, good roads and park well marked with signs. Check in is at the front, and they provide detail instructions as to how to get to your site. This campground has well over 600 sites, which include tent sites, cabins and partial or full RV hook ups. Our site was full hook up, located in the middle of the park. Our site was back in, dirt/grass, and had to level as it dropped off to one side. We had a heavy rain while at park and we went off level due to the wet ground. Sites in the middle have more space than those by the water. Our site also had a fire pit & weathered picnic table. Electric & water located in rear of site, sewer located in the middle. Good roads to walk and bike but be careful when driving as there were kids that would just pop out from side roads. There is a store, pool, bike rentals & you can ride on a fire truck. Trail located across the street that leads into Mackinaw City, about 2 miles. Dog park located at a distance by store. It was the end of the season, park was not full, and plenty of green space to walk dogs. Located on Lake Huron, has private beaches and you can see the Mackinac bridge. There is a cost for Wi-Fi service which was good but did cut out at times. We were able to get satellite at this site but with these mature trees, not sure all can. The park quiet time starts at 10 pm. and provides number to call for excess noise. Park doesn't have laundry. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

This is basically a large field that has been made into an RV park with roads and utilities on sites. Water and electric and a dump station. Pit toilets! But in another city that is a big tourist destination with $40-$50 parks this is a great park! We were here to see lighthouses not for park amenities! We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hookups are 30 amp electric and water only. Pit toilet and no showers. At $20 a night, the value is off quite a bit. However, if you are self contained the location is very good. Sites are mostly level and grass. Big rigs might want to avoid the first gravel road as the trees have grown in quite a bit since our last stay. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a relatively small campground. Sites are grass and level and is close to the Interstate and downtown Mackinaw City. Good stopover for one or more nights, especially considering the $20 price. We would stay here again.

(Contrary to the previous review this campground is not on Lake Huron, but is about 1.75 miles away as the crow flies. And, the camp rate is $20, not $33). We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Shopping in Mackinaw City is a pleasure and has great restaurants and, of course, FUDGE! Candies can be bought in abundance here. Be sure to visit Fort Michilimackinac State Park in town (not to be confused with the fort on Mackinaw Island). Also on the drive east toward Cheboygan is Mill Creek Historic Park (not to be confused with the private campground with similar name).

As others have said with 2 differences. 1. The 2015 price is $20. and 2. There's no clean up after someone leaves or worse, as someone has their dog poop all over and then leaves. Still a good value, but watch where you STEP ! ! ! We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

This park has two outhouses, no amenities, and no perks. However if you want a nice flat spot in a quiet area that's close to everything, then this is your park. The rate for water and electric is almost unbelievable in this day and age. Nice trees provided shade and the owner was mowing when we were there. It you want to pay a lot, go somewhere else. If you want a great place to relax and feel safe this is your park. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

If you are looking to spend a night and not a fortune in a touristy area, this campground is an excellent choice. Good 30 amp solid electric with water and convenient dump station. There are both shade and open sites available. Self contained units would be best as there is no bath house. We stayed 6 nights while touring the area. We would stay here again when in the area. Overall Rating:

This is an older CG with decent hookups, 30 amp electric and water. Both good for our stay. Nothing fancy here, but a solid value for $15 a night. Sites are hard packed grass pull thrus and fairly level. TV via batwing was strong, but with a limited channel list. Verizon cell and broadband both very good. Be careful pulling in, it is a long narrow drive so you want to avoid meeting on coming traffic. But traffic volume is low here. As long as you don't expect much, you will have a nice spot to visit the Mackinaw from. Which is a lot bigger than we expected given its population of under 1,000, so we ended up spending 6 nights. Plenty of food and drink choices in town, but on the high side. For a good alternative, try Clydes Place which has outstanding pizza and much better prices. Take a left out of the CG to US-31 and then 3 miles south to Carp Lake. It is just south of the blinking light on the left. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This 'no frills' campground is perfect for those not needing amenities (pool, playground, showers, etc.) It is big rig friendly and offers the basics - 30 amp electric, water, dump station, good AT&T and Verizon access, and good satellite reception. You can't beat the $15 price. Those of us who are self-contained need more reasonably priced parks like this. It's just a short distance to town and all the activities of Mackinaw City. I'm rating it a 9 because despite the lack of amenities it was adequate for our needs at a fair price. We stayed a week and would return again. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Well-kept and clean, probably because it isn't advertised and isn't near the tourist traps. Payment is honor system. Good grassy sites (about half of them have tree shade), good gravel roadways, some site butt up to the road and there is a bit of road noise (not much, since this isn't on the main tourist road). Each site has a picnic table and grill. Satellite reception is decent. Electrical is 30 amp. There's a dump station and the pit toilets are pretty clean. Very basic and inexpensive place, which is great if you're self-contained and don't want hordes of screaming children or amenities like pools...this is a great home base for exploring around Mackinaw City. From US-23 or from I-75 Exit 337, turn SOUTH on Nicolet Street/Mackinaw Highway; cross over I-75 and go south about a mile. The campground is on the left (east) side of Mackinac Highway at Paquet Road. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Clean and bright pit toilets. Dump station. Fishing stream. GREAT VALUE. 13496 Mackinaw Highway (old main highway), Mackinaw City, MI. We camped at Mackinaw City Campground in a Motorhome.
