This park is all about location right on the St.Clair river. Sites are grassy & close together with little shade. There is a boat ramp into the river and a paved recreational trail called the "Bridge to Bay Trail". You can bike it into Algonac right from the park. There is an $8 fee for online reservations, a $7 fee for a towed car and a $32 yearly non-resident fee for your camping vehicle called the "Recreation Passport". A little expensive for out-of-staters unless you plan to do a lot of camping in Michagan. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lot of big freighters passing along the river very close to the campground. Have fresh seafood right on the river a couple of miles north at AJ's Salt Docks or head South a couple of miles to Algonac and dine at the trendy Catch 22 Bistro that specializes in a flambe appetizer as well as fresh seafood.

Very nice state park that can accommodate big rigs. You can make reses online although you have to look at each site individually to see the length and available power. There are no sewer or water hookups in the park. The St Claire river is within view from most sites in the front loop. Those on the front row of the river are best suited for fifth wheels because every site is a back in and the big rear window overlooks the river. There is another campground in the rear of the park that is within the trees. Very clean and neat. Although the nightly rate is low, non residents have to buy a park passport for 9 per nite with a max of 39 plus $7 for your tow. Marine City and Algonac are both nice towns with good restaurants. There is a ferry over to Canada in Marine City. Very pleasant area and watching the passing freighters are fun to watch. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

Great watching the freighters and other boats on the St Clair River. If you are not a Michigan resident and if you tow a car behind your motorhome, you are looking at some high prices. Riverside site is $29, toad is $7, non resident entry fee is $9. The only water fill up is at the dump. Kind of inconvenient. Lots are mostly shady with a gravel surface, and have a fire ring and picnic table. Power seems good. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

If you are into watching freighters. .this is the place to be..up front and personal. ....They pass very close to your park location. Our all time favorite camp ground. Just wish full hook up was available. Electric only. Would highly recommend the first two rows if you like sitting at your campsite to watch freighter s...I book 6 months in advance to try to get my favorite location We camped at Algonac State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for the weekend of July 29, 30, and 31. Everything was very clean. The park rangers came around a couple times a day. There was a big rainstorm. The rangers came around to make sure the tenters were OK. The lake was clean and I caught several walleyes one of the days. The pumpouts were very easy to use as they had a hookup there so none had to use their own. There is a general camp store within a mile and bait stores as well. Very family-oriented and quiet time after 10:00pm was respected by all campers. We plan to go back again. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

We were there when the boat races were going on but there are stores a few miles down the road and firewood is sold in wheelbarrows for 10.00 a load.

We stayed during the week between two Harvest Festivals and the park was empty. This park is always clean with the biggest activity being watching freighters travel the St. Clair River. Sites are either paved or graveled with power poles close in the rear. Off the pads it is mostly grassy. Would rate higher if there was anything outside the park to do. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We did travel north to Lakeport State Park, Lexington, and Marine City. The Marine City Fish Company has a good menu with reasonable prices and fantastic service. AT&T service is spotty but watch for roaming charges from Canada as you might switch towers without even moving. 8 television stations are available with a couple from Canada.

If you like to watch Great Lakes ships close-up, one of the camp sites close to the river here is an excellent place to do it. Ships coming from Lake Superior, Huron, and Michigan have to pass through the St. Clair River on their way to Lake Erie and the rest of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Roads were paved and sites were mostly gravel, but the view, at least for me, was everything. You can choose between treed and more open sites. Good Verizon service, as well. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

Great view of freighters traveling the river. Very relaxing watching the river activities. Not crowded during the week so in and out is easy.No hookups other than electric but with a short stay that is not a big problem. For longer stays a trip to the dump station is fairly simple. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here several times. It is a nice large state park right on the St. Clair River. Lots of space and trails, both paved and not, to walk and walk the dogs. It is open year round (no running water rest rooms in the winter) and we have staying with 18' on snow on the ground - they plow some sites. It is a very nice and pleasant campground and a good weekend getaway. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

This is still one of our favorite parks. The sites are well taken care of, and the boat traffic is a lot more than last year. I am referring to the large lake freighters that go past in front of your RV. There is not a lot for children provided in the area. Bring your own bikes and other playthings. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of our favorite parks. The spots vary from small to large with some pull-through sites. Electric is 30 or 50 amp depending on site chosen. The river front has a great view of the large freighters on the St. Clair River. Across the river is the Walpole Island Island Reserve that is in Ontario, Canada. There is not a lot of tourist activities in the area but relaxation and scenery are very good. This is NE of Detroit area and is usually very crowded on weekends and holidays. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

The state needs to authorize funding to resurface the campground roads and sites. Also the original bathroom building needs to be rebuilt. It would also be nice too see this this park totally rebuilt like the Sterling Park in the Monroe Mi area. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Motorhome.

A nice park, we stayed up in the Wagon Wheel part of the park. Only draw back is it's far from the freeway. Would return when in the area. We camped at Algonac State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
