Yankee Springs is a relatively large campground on Gun Lake which is a flood control type man made lake. Beautiful and a great lake to ski, tube wake board etc. The campground is an older facility. During our visit the temperatures were in the low 90s. Our 30 amp service continued to cut out to the degree that the second day in I talked to the park rangers about getting my money back. They were very understanding but did suggest that I try plugging into the power pedestal with out using my Progressive Industries power and surge protector. I politely declined telling them I have more faith in the P.I. device that their power supply. A couple of real nice rangers than came by and changed the circuit breakers and plug socket. This seemed to do the trick. If it wasn't for the great service by the three rangers who addressed my power issue I would've given YS a lower rating. This campground lets anything go. They do not seem to limit the amount of people on each campsite, though the Michigan DNR reservation system asks how many people will be on a site. Next to us was a birthday party with over 20-30 people sitting around pop up shelters with numerous kids. At other sites you would see extension cords running all over the place to power all kinds of electronics beside just campers. No wonder they have brown outs when the temps get into the 90s. It a shame because YS has some real nice water front campsites that some folks had their boats tied up to shoreline posts. Swimming in the lake is easy and convenient either at the small campground only sandy beach or anywhere along the shoreline, the water is very shallow a long way out. My wife and I don't think we would return to Yankee Springs, its just to crowded and loud for our camping pleasure. We camped at Yankee Springs Gun Lake-Modern Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

About 6 miles away at the Blue Pointe Inn is the Terrace Patio restaurant on the opposite shore on Gun Lake. Well worth the visit for cocktails or dinner on the patio overlooking Gun Lake or inside.

This park is nice and very quiet for as busy as it is. Fishing has several piers into the lake and the lake is large enough for all boating activities. Most sites were large enough and were arranged so groups can 'circle the wagons'. The only problem was the mosquitoes which were very bad. We camped at Yankee Springs Gun Lake-Modern Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We very much enjoyed our stay and Yankee Springs. The sites were big and wooded, the beach and fishing pier were very excellent. The playground was a bit dated but the kids still enjoyed it. My only complaint was the lack of water to each site. We knew that going in but it was a bigger issue for us than we originally thought it would be. Also I expected parking for my tow vehicle would have been included but it wasn't so I had to pay an extra $24 for a season parking permit. We camped at Yankee Springs Gun Lake-Modern Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nightly rate includes $8 non MI resident fee. This large campground would likely be noisy during peak season, but was very quiet at this offseason time. Restrooms/showers are not yet open. Only a few sites on water but there is a large sandy area for beach games. Has limited waterfront access. Could have a boat at some sites. Has a very nice view across large lake. We camped at Yankee Springs Gun Lake-Modern Campground in a Truck Camper.

We stayed here in mid April, though it was a little chilly, the park itself was pretty empty except for people camping for the same event. The bathroom were clean and park officials where very accommodating. This is a state park and a must stay. We camped at Yankee Springs Gun Lake-Modern Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This campground doesn't have all of the bells and whistles, but it is a great family atmosphere. It has an excellent beach for swimming especially with small children because the water is so shallow. It is a great recreation lake and has many activities in the surrounding area. We camped at Yankee Springs Gun Lake-Modern Campground in a Motorhome.
