It's a pretty park with many mature trees. They are making quite a few updates. The one bath house in the park is new with very nice, private showers - some with toilets. The negatives outweigh the positives though. Many sites are very uneven, and I couldn't get my trailer completely level. Also, there is no playground, although the campground was full of kids. People were literally stumbling down the streets drunk our first night. There were many vault toilets which could be smelled a couple of sites away. Overall, we were not impressed and won't be heading back. We camped at Proud Lake Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.Undo

Great stop for a state park. Only hookup is electrical however, but the showers were great and restrooms clean. We camped at Proud Lake Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

This park is not that great. It is clean, but the sites are mostly sunny. You definitely do not get the "camping" feeling being here. The beach was the biggest disappointment of all. It is basically a grassy area that had a small patch of sand put there. The swimming area is marked off with buoys and it is small. The bathrooms were clean but there was NO HOT WATER AT ALL. Their electrical outlet would not support the amount of electricity that my pop up camper needed to run lights, fans, etc., so it kept overloading. Not the best experience. We left a day early. Sites are big and campground clean. The reason I gave the mid-grade was the bathroom. They were not clean and there was no hot water in the shower. I know it is a state park, but bugs everywhere all the time is too much. People were nice. The roads were in good shape for a state Park. We camped at Proud Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.Undo
This is a fairly nice state park. The sites for the most part are fairly large but some are wide and not to deep. The bathhouses could use an updating but where kept clean most of the time. There are two bathhouses and several vault toilets throughout the park. The bathhouses close November 1st as the campground is opened all year. There are horseshoe pits, basketball court, volleyball court and a playground area down by the beach. Not the nicest of beaches mostly grass and not much sand. The lake has very good fishing and there is a canoe rental for canoeing on the lake and Huron River. Very nice canoing river. Over all the park is usually very quiet. The fire rings are large and can hold a good fire. Most of them are placed away from the campers depending on how you set up. Lots of nice hiking trails for those who like to hike. We camp here several times a year and find it a very enjoyable experience. We camped at Proud Lake Recreation Area in a Tent Trailer.Undo
Unfortunately, this was the only park available in close proximity to a family member residing near Detroit. We do not usually stay in state parks, however, we decided to make a reservation at the welcome center as we entered Michigan. It took many hours to get through to make the reservation. Upon arrival at the park, we were charged $96.00 for only 4 nights. We had no water or sewer for our motorhome. We had to move our motorhome 3 times to find a site that would be near the electric hook-up. We were charged extra fees because we were not Michigan residents, and these fees included daily park passes (one for each day) on both the motorhome and our tow vehicle. After traveling over 10,000 miles over a 6 month period, this was the worst park we ever found. We wrote
to the State of Michigan complaining of the park but, of course, received no response. There were only 4 showers for over 100 campsites. Hazardous fire pits were only a few feet from our motorhome. We assumed no one would be stupid enough to start a fire near the rear of our motorhome (and gas tank); however, we had to report such a fire to the ranger. We were told that such a fire was allowed in the State of Michigan, and he could not ask the people responsible to put out the fire. Needless to say, we will never visit a Michigan State Park again! We camped at Proud Lake Recreation Area in a camper.
