Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

$10/night for a lakeside site with the federal Senior Pass. Sites away from the lake are $18/night ($9/night with a federal Senior Pass). Reservations are available no less than three days in advance for about of the half the sites, so don't try to reserve the day ahead. The campground host let me know that a lakeside reservation had cancelled that morning, so I could have that site. Sweet!! My site had sunny lakeside benches and a sandy lake bottom ideal for wading. Parking on my site had a pretty steep slope up and then down. Fortunately, my rig is short and I could park on the crest of the hill and be level. Most other sites appeared to be reasonably level. There are some gravel sites and some paved sites, also two walk-in sites. Most sites are long enough for even the biggest rigs. Vault toilets. There are are water spigots scattered around the campground. No hookups. There is a dumpster. No cellphone service. The area flora was a mature a forest of fir, beech and maple. Most sites are very shady. The sites are well spaced for privacy. The campground is about 10 miles south of Munising for gas, food and ice. Half the campground was closed after Labor Day. The other half closes at the end of September. I was here about a week before they closed for the season - just a week, or so, too early for good leaf peeping. The campground was mostly empty. I'm pretty sure I heard a Sandhill Crane one morning. We camped at Petes Lake Campground, Hiawatha National Forest USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a boat ramp, fishing pier, picnic area and a swimming beach (no life guard). There are a couple trails in the area for hiking. The Bruno Trail, a 10 mile loop, goes past a number of pretty lakes. It had been a wet summer, so the mushrooms and other fungi were out in abundance. There were fisherman on Petes Lake every day I was there.
