Great campground but the geese were bad. I had to rake campsite before I could use it. They even poop on the picnic table. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

When planning our trip to the Upper Peninsula, I pictured a quiet campground in the middle of nowhere. We gravitate toward state parks for this reason: scenery over amenities. However, upon arrival, we found it was quite busy. It was out in the middle of nowhere, as we wanted, but it was completely full. A full campground is just fine, but the way this park is designed (or lack of it), made it a parking free-for-all.

Sites hold multiple tents, vehicles, ATVs, motor bikes, boats, toy trailers, etc. Vehicles and toys are parked haphazardly along the road. We have a 42' fifth wheel, and the way people were lining the narrow road made it difficult to navigate. Trailers were parked horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Each site had a post by the road to designate the site number. Coupled with the trees, and the parking mayhem, it made getting into and out of our site difficult. We asked two neighbors if they would move their vehicles so we could pull out of our site, which they kindly did. There are trees near the road, and one particular tree right on the hairpin curve of the road. Apparently the day before we arrived, a trailer hit the tree, as well as another trailer, while trying to maneuver around the turn. I don't mind flexibility in parking, but this was a bit crazy. Four sites share a power pole, so bring a long cord.

The park itself was beautiful: right on Lake Superior and Muskallonge Lake. The park host (excellent hostess!!) told my husband that recently, the campground opened up to ATVs/ORVs (versus previously they had to park outside the campground). This beefed up business, which was the goal, but all in all, I would skip this park next time. $20/night for 30 amp, plus an $8 reservation fee. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Good showers, very quiet at night, some sites have nice lake views. Very crowded even during the week, difficult to level rig, no camp store but there is a general store not too far away. Very remote. No cell service (Verizon). Electric box on opposite side of rig hookup, glad we carry an extension for our 30 amp. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Clean but only partly open. Upgrades were being made to about half the park. No water or sewer at the site. Park staff were very friendly and helpful. They allowed me to go the wrong way on a one way to be able to park and to depart the camp site. Some turns were too tight for easy travel. We loved the area. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Good park. Would stay there many nights. A little windy at times where you can't have the awning out or camp fire but we loved it. The roads are paved but the pavement is gone in some places. The road to the park is very good, but lots of curves and hills to get there but not bad. The dump and fill station are very easy to access, the boat ramp is good up to a 21' boat, andthe fishing is great. The playground and beach are clean and well maintained. The only things I can find with this park that some people might not like is a its little remote and cell phone coverage is weak. but if you want modern amenities with a park that gets you away from it all then this is the park for you. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

We're rustic campers, but this is a state park we always visit at least once a year. This year it was twice. The campground is between Lake Superior and Muskallonge Lake. There's a path from the campground that connects to the North Country Trail for some excellent hiking. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful location with lake views. Staff was very nice and helpful. This campground was too tight for us in a 45' motor home; some very tight turns with low hanging branches. Even though they said sites were level most were not. We tried 3 sites before we found one that was level enough for us (site 123). It had 20 amp electric, no water or dump on site but it had a convenient dump station and water fill station. There was no Wi-Fi or Verizon cell service. We had to drive to McDonald's in Newberry (about 26 miles) to use the Internet. Don't think we would stay here again due to the tight turns and unlevel sites. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We loved this state park! There were waterfront sites available along Lake Muskallonge and Lake Superior is but a short walk across the road. There was little issue with bugs of any kind. The bathrooms & showers were clean. The Rangers were kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. There was a small issue with cell phone service which seemed to be localized. We remedied it by walking to the lakefront bench where service seemed optimal. All in all, it was one of our favorite Michigan State Parks, so far. The atmosphere seemed one of great family get away, fishing, agate hunting, and relaxing evenings at the campfire. We would definitely return. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of my favorite state parks in the Upper Peninsula. The office is always friendly and helpful, along with the outside staff. Walking distance to Lake Superior along with the inland Muskallonge Lake is a plus. We will be back again as soon as vacation allows in the spring. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is our 2nd state park we have stayed at. We were with friends who had stayed here before and enjoyed it. We prefer to be someplace closer to "civilization" and with more elbow room. It was OK, but sites are too small to suit us. Level sites and the park attendants are helpful. We left here after two nights to go to a park with more amenities. Because we are all from out of state there was the $8 fee for the motorhome and the toad which added another $16 to the price per night. We camped at Muskallonge Lake State Park in a Motorhome.
