Very nice town park and campground right on the lake. We got a space by calling first thing in the morning but unfortunately couldn't get one on the lake. It appears locals get these sites locked up as there were many with unoccupied rigs just taking up the space. Some of the lakefront sites have a 9-day limit but the rest appear to have no limit at all. Sites in the northeast section are in twos so half have privacy with their doors facing wooded areas and half have another camper right at their door. You take what you can get. There were lots of children running around with typical kid-noise. The worst thing was when a camper inconsiderately set off 15 minutes of extremely noisy fireworks at 11:00 pm, way past quiet time (and it wasn't even close to July 4th). Nothing was done about it in spite of having a camp host on site. The noise terrified all the dogs....our neighbors' dog was lost for several hours after breaking out of his harness and running off in terror. (It wasn't a good experience for combat veterans with PTSD either.) They have wifi but it never worked well enough for us to use it. Our Verizon hotspot worked fine. We loved Ontonagon and the park's location on the lake was so good we would take another chance on the place. Your experience will depend on what site you get and how your neighbors behave. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Visit the Gitchee Gumee Landing Gift Shop in Ontonagon. Very nice place with lots to look at (and buy for gifts or for yourself). Don't miss the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park just 17 miles down the coast.

#65-70 back in, right on lake superior, crushed stone spots. You'll need to call early in the morning the day you're coming to hold a spot, that's the only downside for planning a vacation. I had made a reservation at another campground and cancelled after arriving here. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Did not stay on lake front (too windy)but we were able to see lake from our pit fire. Campground staff was very helpful they even called restaurant to find out if they had grilled fish besides deep fried for us. And Roxey's did. Campsite was fine. We noticed that their playground was very nice, they even had two wheelchair swings--one for a child and another one for adult. Seldom see that offering. They have four disc golf baskets. Wifi worked great. Beach area access was right there and enjoyed watching the sun set both nights. We forgot our flashlight but walk way to rest room/ shower building was well lit. The only very tiny thing wrong was that the outside office building does not light up their directions well for late comers. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We have stayed here before and keep coming back - there is nothing like camping right on the shore of Lake Superior, listening to the waves and watching the sun set over the water. Brought family members here for their first visit and planned to stay two days. They loved it so much we just stayed here the whole week. There are times when magic happens and you get to see the northern lights shimmering over Lake Superior. Stayed up late one night and saw them - what a wonderous sight! They have made improvements here over the past several years, adding new bathhouse, more camping spots and a playground. These are water and electric only sites. Very nice park!! We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a very remote area with not alot of shopping options. Just a small downtown with a few unique shops, some cafes and bar/grills, a coffee shop, a hardware and grocery store. There are four-wheeler trails throughout this area as well as hiking on the beach. There is a sidewalk that goes from the campground all the way to town - about a mile of walking. This part of the UP is a nice destination for fall leave watching. There are some nice state parks within a day's drive also.

As others have said, this is a gem of a campground. Township run, but do not let that deter you. It is by far nicer than many private campgrounds where we have stayed. And the price is unbeatable. We had a spot parallel to Lake Superior. The views were amazing! We stayed 5 nights and I wished I could stay more.

We had site 30 and it was a little frightening pulling in with the soft sand, but my truck has 4 wheel drive. Getting out was a little harder, since a class A decided to pull in next to us and crowded the side closest to where i had to pull out.

There are similarly nice lakefront sites in the "new" section but they are often full. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

One of the best parks we've stayed at. We were on a premium site (each premium site has its own path to the sandy beach of Lake Superior). Exceptionally clean and personnel incredibly helpful and friendly. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Gitchee Gumee Landing- best souvenir shop, laundromat- up for sale and the majority of the washers and most dryers broken and have maintenance slips on them, but the ones that are still working do get the job done.

Sunsets at this campground are incredible. We were going to stay only 3 nights and more than doubled our stay.

This is a fantastic little town CG that we could not find. There is no physical address listed anywhere and our GPS sent us far, far away. If you can get there, you'll find a very cozy small CG right along the lake with water and electric (there's a dump but no sewer hook-ups). The office is staffed on a part-time basis. The upkeep is very good for a town facility that has probably been heavily used all summer. Porcupine Mntns Wilderness state park is only about 15 minutes away. There is a CG with electric-only in PMWSP but it is not as pleasant as this one. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

I considered not even writing this review so I could hog this park all to myself. There are sites on Lake Superior large enough for my 40' rig, 14' trailer and car. We have a short walk through a low dune to the beach. We were able to pull the MH in front-first to maximize the view and minimize the wind on our awning. The manager and his staff are beyond helpful and pleasant. Bathrooms are super clean, and the shower water is hot. If you don't want to break camp and dump, they have a reasonably priced honey-wagon, as they have no sewer. But who cares? There is a lovely nature trail through surprisingly mature woods to walk the dog. And I could go on and on.

The only difficulty is they do not take reservations. Some lakeside sites are 9 day limits, some are sixteen. There are always some sites off the lake available through mid-day, and the equestrian park across the street always seems to have openings. So there is always SOME place to stay here. Once here, you can scout out opening sites and move if you so wish. The 16-day limit is for a particular site, not the park itself, so you can move around and extend your stay. It's worth this minimal hassle.

We are extending our stay here, and would go out of our way to return. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

What a gem! They don't take reservations until 8 AM on the day you plan to arrive. We just showed up early and were lucky enough to get a site directly on the beach that fit our 25 foot Class C perfectly. We were literally 25 feet from the beach and water. In another section of the park there were $30 gravel back-in beach sites for larger RVs. Across the road, the park had secluded sites in the woods, but we thought the bugs could be a problem. We only had plans to stay one night, but ended up staying 3 nights because of the sunsets and stars over Lake Superior. The park has a friendly and helpful attendant from 8AM-5PM and a camp host available 5-11 PM. There is a great children's play area in a separate section of the park. The park was very quiet and a one mile walk/drive to downtown Ontonagon. We thought this park was the "find" of our two weeks in the Upper Peninsula. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

This town park doesn't take reservations, but we were able to call in the morning before we came in and the nice young man managing the park took our RV info and held an appropriate site for us.

We had an excellent view of Lake Superior from our site, and as we were looking west over the lake we enjoyed walking down to the water and watching the sunsets.

About the only negative thing is the location of the utility hookups. They were in an unusual location relative to our unit, but we were able to get hooked up OK.

Overall, we were quite pleased with the park and would gladly stay there again. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

We called early morning and spoke to the host. He promised to hold a waterfront site for us, if one opened up (we figured we could be there in a couple of hours) We ended up in one of the newer premium sites with a great view of the beach and lake. Plenty of shade, slightly un level, but doable. The older section had much more of a mix of sites, more suited to families and big groups. Overall we were pleased with our location. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Would have given this a rating of 10 if there had been water on our site. We had to fill the tank before parking. Beautiful backing right up to Lake Superior. Tips for other Campers:

Syl's in town has a great breakfast with homemade breads and pastries. Had the BEST cinnamon raisin toast ever, hands down. Laundromat in town is terrible. It has been vandalized several times and the old lady that owns it won't replace the bathroom or the carts. She hardly keeps up the machines. The repairman was there when we were there and filled us in.

Just a mile from the quaint village of Ontonagon, this park is right on the south shore of Lake Superior and has several lake front sites (we think the best are #11 and 12). The sandy beach is safe for young and old and alike. Although none of the sites have sewer, the dump station is easily accessible from either direction. Most sites are heavily wooded, but there are a few from which a satellite signal can be obtained. The lake front sites are limited to 9 to 16 days, but very nice sites located just 30 yards from the lake are available for the whole summer. This is a great park. Sites are all "first-come-first served", i.e., no reservations. Camp manager and staff are very cordial and helpful. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Arrived without reservations soon after a lakeside site became available and we had to use 4WD to pull into site because of the sand. The next site's camper was very close to ours with a large family group. The site was in the sand so required 4WD to get set up. Because we had such a great lake view site we had all the traffic going up and down to the beach. We used this location to visit Porcupine Mountains and Bond and Agate Falls. Think we would look around for another park if we were in the area. Definitely needs to have the older section updated. Showers required 75 cents for 6 minutes. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Camped here in mid-July so it was fairly busy, but thankfully we got there in the middle of the week and were able to secure a lakefront site (#26). There are really 4 different sections here. The ones on the north end were grassy and generally shaded. Some water hookups were more than 25 ft. The middle section (where we camped) had about 7-8 lakefront sites, all very nice. There were pull-throughs, but not made for longer RV's. Also some sites were along the country road that were grassy and shaded. The newest section, and probably the most sought after, has 7 lakeside sites only. The new restroom/showers were in this section and were very nice and kept clean. The 4th section was across the road from the other sites and the lake. It contained several sites that were level, grassy, and mostly shaded. The dump station was in the newer section and was easily accessible. Usually one young man ran the office. He was pleasant and usually around the campground area attending to duties. This is a laid-back operation, but they take good care of things. The beach was excellent!!! Nice and sandy and not very far from our campsite (about 50 yards or less). Town was about 1 mile south and there is a sidewalk most of the way there. We walked into and around town for our morning exercise. Porcupine Mtns. State Park was about 14 miles south, but the park is huge so there is more driving necessary if you want to enjoy the full park. Syl's is a good place to eat. There is a good grocery store on the east side of town along M-38. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
