I stayed in the lower and newer, more open area closer to the lake. Sites were large and fairly well spread out with good views of the lake. I arrived before the water was turned on, so I had to go to a relative's house to fill my tanks, but the rangers were working on it and got the water on for the weekend. If you go in early spring or late fall, you might want to call ahead and find out about the water situation as it is turned off during the winter and freezing times. That means no showers or flush toilets during that time. Roads and pads are all asphalt, and the ones in the lower area are especially clean with grass between sites. Verizon signal was weak, but I was able to get both voice and data. We camped at Pinckney Recreation Area (Bruin Lake) in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. Very clean campground with fairly large lots and paved roads. Although I did not use the restrooms or showers they appeared to be clean. We stayed at lot 127 which is on a pretty steep incline therefore I would not recommend that particular site unless you have a really long power cable so you can park perpendicular to the road. Lake front sites cannot be reserved and must be requested at check-in. Lake front sites had very little privacy. Overall this was a nice campground and we will definitely come back! We camped at Pinckney Recreation Area (Bruin Lake) in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: August, 2009 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here with a group of friends over the weekend. The sites were a nice size, we didn't feel that we were on top of other campers. The beach is grassy with shade and the water is shallow enough for the young kids to play in. The campground hosts are top of the line with lots of activities and games available. The showers were passable, the restrooms were clean and the playground was new and large. We will definitely return! The only downfall was the check-in was long and tedious because of an outdated computer system and the DNR Officer had an attitude, but luckily we did not encounter him often. We camped at Pinckney Recreation Area (Bruin Lake) in a Tent Trailer.

We enjoyed our stay at this campground, which with 186 sites felt rather intimate compared to some of the larger ones we'd stayed at on this trip. We stayed here midweek so the place wasn't packed, but it seemed there was enough space between the campsites that it would be nice even when full. There are a number of waterfront sites which are first-come-first-served (worth checking into when you arrive, I believe you can move from your reserved campsite into one of these for an additional fee). As do other Michigan state parks, this campground requires an additional 'vehicle fee' for cars/motorhomes. We'd purchased an annual sticker for our RV at the previous campground and paid $6 for an out-of-state 'toad' sticker at this one. At one point, a polite ranger who was checking up on the stickers knocked on the door to say we needed to pay an extra $6 for the toad...then she realized the amount we'd paid was correct (after I'd whipped out my wallet). We drove to the main Pinckney Recreation Area entrance booth and they provided a map that directed us to this part of the park (about a 15 minute drive away). There are, however, little generic brown camping signs that point you to the campground (we just chose to follow the larger signs to the 'main' park as we weren't sure). Ann Arbor is an easy 25 minute drive away, and we look forward to staying here again if we're in the area. We camped at Pinckney Recreation Area (Bruin Lake) in a Motorhome.
