We had a pull thru site that was not even graveled. Fortunately there had not been any recent rains. The site was laid out very awkwardly in that the electric was far to the rear of the site and shared between 2 sites. The sewer was far forward. Our RV has the electric in the rear so that was not an issue, however, the RV next to us with the more common electric in the middle of the unit on the street side needed two extension cords to connect. I needed an extension on the sewer line to reach. If you stay at this park I would highly recommend walking your site before accepting it. The staff made up for it in the great customer service they offered. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice staff. Old worn out campground. Sign says "new ownership, new experience". No indication of latter. Needs lot of $$$ and attention. Surprising at some of the places that KOA allows to be in system. Too many other superior places around. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:
Its in St Ignace, so there is alot of tourist things to do. We stayed the night on our way to Wisconsin. I was disappointed with the condition of our site, and how muddy it was, but I have to say that I was very pleased with the way management handled the issues we had. They moved in on the problems right away, and did a great job of taking care of us. I will stay here again if necessary.

Lots are tight but deep. The actual parking area is elevated gravel as where we parked it was dry mud where the picnic table goes. Wife used the shower on the day we left but there was no hot water. She told the desk and they said they were aware of it. A hot water heater went out. We left for breakfast and came back. Upon our return we saw a plumbing truck there. We liked the quick response on the hot water problem. The mini golf was extra when it should be included for campers. The pool was clean and neat. To some the restroom/shower areas would be outdated but I liked it as it took me back to camping when I was kid. Also are people there to critique the interior design of a campground or to answer the call of mother nature. Paint the room purple as long as the toilets flush and are clean. One problem was the electric was way back on the site and the water was on the other side in the front. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived unannounced after hours and the delightful hosts, who live on site, were more than willing to be helpful and give us time to answer any and all questions we had. We found the facilities to be extremely clean. The campground was totally quiet. We appreciated the pull thru site and ample walking space for our poodles. They are working on a new dog run which will be huge. Excellent cable TV. We definately will stop at this KOA on our next visit to Michigan. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

When I explained my frustration to the lady at the desk about trying to find a suitable site, she said "This campground was built 45 years ago. Not for todays campers". The campground is from 45 years ago. The sites are horrible. We booked a backin 30 amp, but the site that we were given had trees blocking us from opening our awning. The lady at the counter politely gave us 3 other options. We drove around twice and still did not see the other options as a suitable option, either the site was oddly small for our 31 foot RV or the hookups were spread too far apart or, again, the trees were blocking us from opening slide outs or the awning. We asked about the Pull Thru or the other backin sites and were told they were $13 MORE a night because they were 50 AMP $53/night). We finally decided to upgrade to a 50 AMP backin for $13/ more a night, but after our KOA discount then it wasn't as bad. The pull thru sites looked worse. The backin site that we selected had the electrical on the right side, the water spicket in the back and the sewer hookup on the left side near the front of the RV. Thankfully all of our hoses reached but we had cords and hoses everywhere. We stayed here for the "free shuttle". The "free shuttle" is provided by the ferry, so we really could have stayed anywhere else to get the free shuttle. Rusted dangerous looking pieces of metal in the playground. I couldn't even let my toddler play on them. I wouldn't stay here again because they need to lower prices to justify what you get, they need to put money back into the campground, they need a new playground area and they need to cut down and remove some trees to make the sites work better. This should not be a KOA. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Park large and shady.People constantly pulling through empty lots for shortcuts to their site.Numerous people changed sites because staff have no idea what sites are like.Dead trees all around should be felled.Washrooms dated and taps turn opposite to turn on and off.Car parking at washrooms prevent RVs from getting around park on check in and leaving.Playground next to dump station. Not much room to turn at dump station which was overflowing and muddy. If two or more RVs are trying to dump you cannot leave until they are finished as exit road is too skinny. This is a larger KOA but you wouldn't know it when you pull in; lots of sites in the back. We stayed over the July 4th weekend, and the place was packed, so might be some of the problem, but if you know you're going to be packed, bring on the help/staff. At check-in, the staff was nice but no one knew the park layout, which direction to pull into sites or what side of the sites the utilities were on. No one led us to our site. We walked it first because the directions from the staff were so poor. We unfortunately booked water and electric only as full hookups were unavailable. My poor(er) rating on this KOA is because we had to use the bathhouse more frequently then we would've if we'd had full hookups. The bathhouse (men/women) in the back was constantly a mess. Toilets were failing to work/function constantly. Someone complained and help came, but you never knew whether you'd get functioning toilets or not. There is no VISIBLE staff (i.e., golf carts). We met the "owner" and he drives around in a truck, but so do most of the other guests here, so unless you KNEW he was the owner, there is NO VISIBLE staff working here (other then the office/bathhouse from time to time). The interior roads are dirt (gravel long gone) and is dusty. The sites are gravel, level and somewhat long (fit our 5'er and truck). Low weeds are plentiful, as is the dirt. No grass. WiFi comes and goes, like in most KOAs. There are lots of shade trees, which probably helped in being more quiet then most parks. Convenient to St. Ignace. Small pool for such a large park. For such a large popular KOA, it's hard to understand why so few full hookups sites exist. There are 145 RV sites, only 44 are full hookups. On the other hand there are 62 tenting sites, which brings to the bathhouses trying to serve 207 sites many with 4+ people per site. Overwhelms the facilities. Hence, if we had full hookups, we'd not have had this issue. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:
If you're going to Mackinac Island, the Arnold line is far cheaper and more pleasurable ride. More typical to the old ferry rides, then the high speed fan tail ferries. If time is important to you, take Star Line, but if not, enjoy the 30 min. ride on the Arnold. In fact, you can get a 2-day roundtrip on Arnold for less then a 1-day trip on the Star Line.

This KOA is on the main road and only 7 minutes to the Star ferry to Mackinac Island. Roads are gravel and when it rained they got messy. Sites are dirt and gravel. Some shade, but when make reservations just tell them you want a site for your satellite. This park is much larger than it appears on arrival. Many secluded tent sites and 30 amp sites behind the bathhouse. Lots of places to walk the dog, but no off leash area. Staff helpful. Utilites were good, but placement was odd. Water and sewer hookups were everywhere. (Our sewer was by front DS, and water was by rear PS- so bring extensions.) Little road noise. Lots of campfires at night so there is some smoke. If coming back here we would stay here again. Location for the island ferries is great. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Bakery next door with farmer's market. There are 3 ferry co's within 10 mins. Arnolds & Sheplers have larger boats but are slower than Star Lines which get you to the island within 15 minutes (& the crew was great). Multi day and bike tickets available. Try lunch buffet at Grand Hotel (pricy but great). Note you need a jacket and tie for dinner. Try a lunch at the tea patio in the old fort. It has a fantastic view of the town.

We stayed for 8 nights through July 4th. Sites were spacious. Some shaded. Some open. Stay was very pleasant until the park started filling up for the July 4th weekend. Almost all sites were occupied - and tents were everywhere - with 2 just a few feet from the rear of our 5th wheel. I've seen pictures of Woodstock back in the 70s that weren't as crowded as this place. But, no one got too wild, and quiet time was observed. The office staff were very helpful with area information and called for the shuttle service to the ferry for us. Would stay again, but not on a holiday. The very helpful people who run this park saved our bacon. We had reservations at another CG in town and once we saw it, we decided to go elsewhere. Our GPS informed us that this place was the nearest and gave us the phone number. At the last minute, and at the tail end of the local auto show, they gave us a 50A pull through site with a spacious lawn. No cable TV - they have cancelled it. WiFi is slow. It is a little spendy, as are many KOA parks. Other than that, it is a serene and woodsy place to stay - we like it just fine. We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

First of all, the staff was amazing! Very accommodating! The sites were level and a few were wide enough to accommodate the slides on our large rig, but unfortunately the good stops there. It was raining and the roads were slushy. The area near the dumpster was like a swamp! The electrical hookups were very OLD and we had to switch them off and on several times before they would work. And Wi-Fi!? They may SAY they have it, but I was never able to get it to work. Additionally, the dumpsters were so full you couldn't fit your trash in them for 2-3 days! We camped at St Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA in a Motorhome.
