Overall Rating:

We spent 1 week in a 40' motor home. The nightly rate reflects weekly discount. All sites have 30-50 amp electric and a few have water hook-ups. The dump station is easily accessed by big rigs. The bathrooms & showers are a new feature since our previous stays. Each shower is a complete bathroom, with stool & lavatory, & 2 of them are handicapped accessible. The bathrooms are not cleaned regularly & the concrete floors would be greatly improved by sealing and/or painting so they could be kept free of sand. There are no benches in the shower areas. There is an on-site host and the campground is quiet & safe. This is not a resort. It is a fairgrounds with good facilities for those who wish to enjoy the Grand Traverse Bay area. This campground is closed to outsiders during fair week, so check the website for dates. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

A bargain for an overnight stay. Almost wished we could stay a couple more days. Just out of town, electric and water on the outer sites. A couple of shade trees. A little dusty but sites are level with lots of room. Restrooms are not fancy but decent. No other amenities except it's a drive down the street to every convenient store imaginable. Downtown is quaint with lots of tourist traps and restaurants. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a good inexpensive place to stay in the Traverse City area. Full hookups. Easy in and out. Cheap. The place was nearly empty. Twenty minutes to Traverse City, 45 to Sleeping Bear. A bargain. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a great inexpensive place to stay. Very friendly camp host. Hardly any body was around so we picked a back in site along the outer edge with trees. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

Nothing special for beauty but it has 50 amp. water and a level space at least 45 feet long. Not very crowded at all on Labor Day weekend. Just wanted a place to stay as a central point for touring the area and this worked great. No amenities other than $20 a night cash or checks only. I would stay here again if in the area because other parks are double or triple the rate. Outside sites have water interior no. They do have a dump station. I chose an open site for good satellite but some shade does exist. Very quiet area. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

This is just a so so place. It's only redeeming feature is that it is only $20.00 in a city of $40.00 plus parks. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The park roads are dirt and gravel, well maintained and watered to keep the dust down. The site was graded dirt and gravel for parking and grass that is having a hard time surviving. The perimeter lots have electric and water and the interior lots are electric only. There is one dump site. If there are showers or restrooms they are not close by. There are porta-johns on site at this time. There campground closes August 3 for a couple weeks during fair time. Nothing to do in the park but excellent location for tourists. We would stay here again when in this area. Tough to beat the price. Our site was 94 and did have shade in the morning but still worked well for DirecTV. Verizon worked well for phone and internet. We agree with previous comments. Roads were gravel/dirt combination. Site pads were recently-graded dirt. Very dry and dusty. (Thankfully it didn't rain during our stay). It would have been better to let the grass grow to prevent dusty or muddy sites. As for restrooms, there are porta-potties in the campground, however the host told us there are showers/bathrooms available at the fairground; ask the host where.

We did have good satellite and phone reception. The fairground is located about 7 miles south from picturesque downtown Traverse City.

The fairground camping area is a good short-term stopover, provided it doesn't rain. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

While there we toured the beautiful Leelanau Peninsula. Saw lots of cherry trees but fruit was not yet ripe. A visit to the town of Suttons Bay is a must! Great place for unique "touristy" gifts and food. Also in downtown Traverse City the drive along lake Michigan's shoreline is very pretty and the trip up US 37 to Old Mission is pretty also.

Rate is weekly rate. Helpful camp host. Dirt roads, so a little dusty. Would have rated higher but no restrooms. They do have portalets. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects weekly rate. Sites are level, firm gravel pads with grass surrounding the pad. Park is well manicured & maintained. Would have rated higher if the bathrooms & showers had been closer. It is the equivalent of about a 2 city block walk or drive to the facilities. This is a hidden gem for RV folks exploring the Bay & Leelanau Peninsula areas, for those not looking for an RV park with extensive services. We camped in a 40' motor home. This is a basic campground. Nothing special but it is in a great location of visit Traverse City and it surrounding areas. The campground bathrooms and showers are located within the fairground complex. Typical bathrooms clean but we did not use them. All of the sites are back-ins with electrical service. About 30 sites (located around the perimeter of the campground) have water; the rest of the sites do not. You would have to fill your tanks from the water spigots located throughout the park. The water spigots (if you have a site with one) and electrical box are located in the back. You might need a long water hose to reach the faucet. The electrical box contained 20/30/50 amp service and the voltage was good, hovering around 123. There is one dump station within the park. With 113 sites, one dump station is probably not enough. All of the sites are on packed gravel with lots of weeds on them. All of the interior roads are on packed gravel as well. It rained quit a bit during our stay but neither the interior roads nor sites had mud puddles. There is a host on site. It is very quiet at night. Verizon air card and cell phone worked well here. The campground does not have Wi-Fi. It appears that this campground does not fill up except for the week of the fair. We would definitely come back here if we were in the area. We camped with a 32 foot 5th wheel. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Large, level, gravel sites. Easy back in. Convenient location to Traverse City and Sleepy Bear. This is not a destination. This is a great place to park the RV with electric and get out and have fun in an amazing area of the country. Verizon cell/MIFI strong. Would stay here again. Overall Rating:

There 132 level, gravel sites all about 40-feet long with grass between them. There are no curbs or barriers around the sites, so longer rigs can extend into the grassy area. The interior roads are well maintained gravel and the campground area is open with few trees. All sites have good electric (ours was 50 amp) and perimeter sites also have water hook-ups. There is a dump station on site which is easily accessible, but larger rigs cannot readily turn around in the area past the dump station. They can more easily egress by backing up. The hosts are conscientious and friendly. There are two Porta-Potties in the camping area and restrooms and showers are several hundred yards away in the fairground complex. The sinks and toilets are clean and the four showers on the “mens” side are adequate, but could use some attention. DirecTV and Verizon are easily accessed. During our week-long stay, there were only a few rigs there during the week with considerably more on the week-end, but the campground was still less than half-full. This facility is ten miles from the water-front in Traverse City and is a great place to stay if you are not seeking entertainment and amenities for kids. The weekly rate is $120. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

Campground Hosts helpful and friendly. Nice, clean, quiet place to stay. Water hook ups coming to sites by Spring 2013. Hopefully they will also have Wi-Fi. We travel with two retrievers, so like having a large area to exercise them. We camped at Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
