We always stay here when visiting Detroit as it is the closest park. There are no private parks in the area. The State of Michigan reservation site is very user friendly and includes a photo of each site. Many of the sites are quite unlevel but all are paved. 30 amp electric is not reliable and be sure to bring an extension cord as it is a long way to the electrical box. Sites are large and the only time it is busy is on the weekends. No water or sewer but dump station is clean & easily accessible. We are a 45 ft motorhome and had no problem maneuvering the campground. Please note that it is not located on Gale Rd as indicated. The campground is located off Teggerdine Rd in White Lake (not Waterford). The beach is located on Gale Rd and is a mile walk from the campground. A State of Michigan Park sticker is required. It is the best place to stay when visiting the area. We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Sites are $19 per day plus $48 in fees for out of state residents. We had to pay $31 for an annual pass for our toad (or $9 per day). Then another $9 to get our motorhome in and a $8 reservation fee. No fee for same day reservations at the CG. So most of the local folks just drive up for a site. This gives the park somewhat of a first come, first served for site selection. In our 12 day stay, the CG never filled. The only threaded water connections are at the dump station. The water inside the campground loops are not threaded. We had no problems U-turning back into the dump station upon arrival to fill our tank. People working here are very good, we were able to extend our stay and were allowed in and out to fill our propane tank. TV via batwing was mostly good, Verizon cell and broadband were the same. Overall a nice stay in a good area about an hour from downtown Detroit and The Henry Ford attractions. We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Buck Shots at the corner of White Lake and Andersonville roads was a good place for sports and a bite to eat. Lots of nice animal mounts inside, deer, elk, bison, etc.

This was a good campground for seeing the greater Detroit area. Most of the sites in the west loop are in the trees and very private. We chose site 44 because it was more open. Glad we did because Verizon both cell and 4G struggled inside our rig. The campground was never full even on one of the biggest weekends of the summer, Woodward Ave. Dream Cruise. Everyone was extremely polite and quiet. At night on the weekends it does get a little smoky from the campfires; thank goodness for A/C. The showers are individual with plenty of hot water. The restrooms were always spotless. Sites do vary in levelness so pay attention to what the website description says. A previous reviewer noted that the electric box is close to the pad on the west loop and far away on the east loop. A significant reason to choose the west loop (numbers 1 through 94) with an RV and A/C. The rate was $18 per night. $8.00 reservation fee. Out-of-state: $30.50 non-resident pass good for one year at all MI parks. We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Park is the closest location for visiting Detroit and the surrounding area. Website shows pictures and description of each site which allows you to determine the type you prefer. As a 45' motorhome with 2 satellite dishes we prefer no trees and these are available. Power does not appear to be a true 30 amp service (very old) so take care when trying to run more than 1 a/c. Trees need to be trimmed along road to prevent tall rigs from brushing limbs, but not impossible to pass. Very quiet and large sites. Price is $18, but you will pay $30 for out of state vehicle pass. We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

The park was excellent. There are two circles to the park. The lower end of the park with lower space numbers have the electricity very close to camping spaces. Higher numbers you will need a very long extension cord to reach electricity. The park was clean and well shaded which means leaves all over (it was the fall) and apples on the ground in the upper areas which smelled like rotting apples (again it was the fall) It was a beautiful park. Well kept, kid friendly, very clean restrooms. I would stay here again without hesitation. I ranked it a 9 because there wasn't anything 'extra' but for a place to camp it was great. We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Tent Trailer.

For being as close to civilization as this park is, it truly has an outdoorsy feel. The shaded sites, one of which we had, were extremely private. The campsite was essentially carved into the woods, there was no sight of neighbors on either side. Paved and level pads for the camper were very nice. The sites are a bit on the smaller side, but I personally enjoyed that, made it feel more rustic. The paved roads are a bit narrow, so I can see how bigger rigs may have a problem. One large motorhome had a shaded site, and just barely had enough room to expand his slides. The sunny sites would alleviate that problem I would imagine. Bathrooms were a bit older, but were kept quite clean. The shower facilities also were older, and had some bug issues, but all in all weren't terrible. If you're looking to camp in the woods, this is the place to be! We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
