If you have a big rig or trailer, this hotel is the closest you can park to El Rosario and the other butterfly sanctuaries. This is a very nice hotel, but as an RV park, it leaves a lot to be desired. They charge like a full-service RV park, but at best you get a little corner of their gorgeous parking lot; at worst, you’re parking in a marshy field. It doesn’t have Wi-Fi (although the Church’s book Traveler's Guide to Mexican Camping says otherwise). In addition, it has no showers and no dump station. But, you can snake a long electrical cord into a hallway of the hotel to get power. In addition, the hotel has two driveways, but you can only pull an RV into one of them. If you use the other, you risk getting stuck. The correct driveway is the one closest to Zitácuaro. Moreover, actually pulling into it requires a very difficult turn off a busy highway, and the correct driveway was locked up tight when we arrived. We had to park on a nearby dirt road, walk into the hotel, and ask them to unlock that entrance. Because access through that gate was so tricky, we had to pull back out onto the highway (going back the way we came), make a u-turn in a nearby Pemex, and THEN pull into the parking lot. We came to see the butterfly sanctuaries, which turned out to be closed because all the roads were washed out and the nearby villages flooded. The very confused staff at the hotel didn’t really have a clue about the sanctuaries: They kept giving us and other guests conflicting information about when they were open and whether the roads were clear. We ended up talking to a travel agent in Zitácuaro, and she explained what had happened. On the positive side, the hotel has a very nice playground and, in general, is totally gorgeous with beautiful landscaping. It would be a fabulous place to hold a wedding or other special event. The actual cost was M$250 pesos per night. The phone numbers are 52 (715) 153-5346, 153-5371, 153-5362. GPS Coordinates: 19.48464 N, 100.36199 W. We camped at Hotel Villa Monarca Inn in a Travel Trailer.Undo
