$29 per night PLUS another $7 for day (park entrance) for total of $36 for a state park with gravel roads, electricity only (water available in certain areas) and a dump station, also no WiFi is OUTRAGEOUS! We stayed at the Big Island section of the park. Sites were well separated, but the dust from passing vehicles and other RVs was awful. Restrooms were hugely outdated, and not very clean. I've stayed at many state parks, and this one by far is the most rustic and lust looked very "unkept". I use the word "unkept" as there is dead trees, branches, limbs, twig, etc. EVERYWHERE...I have never seen anything like this and wondered if it was a MN State Park thing? With all the other State Parks we have stayed at, you are lucky if you can find any "starter" wood, branches for a fire. They were always picked clean by the campers. There was a sign at the park entrance that read "No gathering of wood" (don't quote me on the exact) so based on the visual of all the surrounding campsites beings so "unkept", I assume you are not allowed to gather up twigs/branches?? - I don't know. Just very different than all the other State Parks outside of MN. we have stayed at. Aside from this, it looks to be a beautiful area to kayak, hike, or ride your bicycles. There were hundreds of Pelicans in the lake. Yes, pelicans. Dump station and water not convenient at all if you are staying at the Big Island. The area of Albert Lea was pretty and we found some people to play pickleball with! I personally would not stay here again. The pros do not out weight the cons. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great park with lots of activities to do. White Fox campground is easier for RV to get into. While there were plenty on the Island, they were more wooded location that required more maneuvering for trailers. Best part of staying there was the 1000's of fireflies that light up the campsites each night. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice State park with hiking trails, boat ramps, lots of trees and open areas. White Fox campground has more prairie, open area and younger trees while Big Island has huge old oak savannas and a variety of hardwoods. The trees and forest are dense with little change for satellite on Big Island but many campers had air antennas up. There were multiple clean showers with lots of hot water. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

$36 for a state park with gravel roads, electricity only (water available in certain areas) and a dump station, also no WiFi, seems a little high. Park was very clean and sites were well separated. Middle of winter in Minnesota and they had two sites plowed for motorhomes and trailers. Site had electric and water (surprisingly). We were winterized so didn't use the water. Self register and pay. Enjoyed sunset over the lake and minus eight degree weather! We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Park is in need of a make over as bathroom and showers are very old. Sites are nicely wooded with fair screening between sites. Trails are awesome for hiking. Bring your kayak or canoe if you want a real treat. Natural shoreline wih no development on park side of lake. Enjoy! Suggest Jaye Cooke for overall best of Minnesota. Anyone else have a favorite? The site was just an o.k. place to stay for overnight. Our site was a bit unlevel in both directions but manageable. It's about 3 miles off the Interstate but was a pleasant drive. Take lots of bug spray because the mosquitoes were very bad here. The rate include the $5 daily Minnesota State Park charge. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There is a large, clean travel center at the I-35 Interstate exit. The railroad crossing going to the State Park is very rough.

Overall Rating:

The campground is located on an island in the middle of Albert Lea lake. It is nestled under a canopy of trees and is nice and quiet. I would suggest you get a site with electric in the summer since it was a little hot and sticky. There was a few mosquitoes and a lot of long legged spiders, so also bring some bug spray. But overall, a very beautiful campground. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Twenty six per night was for a 30 amp electric site. In addition, there is daily parking permit of $5 or you can purchase an annual MN state parking pass for $25, which is good for 12 consecutive months from the date of purchase. Many recreational opportunities are available in the surrounding areas including biking/hiking trails. Campground is within manageable driving distances for shopping and other activities. Spacing between sites is generous and most sites are level or need only modest leveling. Sites range from full shade to full sun. We received three bars of 4G on our AT&T phone. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice state park. Nice hiking trails and bike trail that goes into Albert Lea. Staff friendly and helpful. Shower house on the island campground is in need of updating. White Fox campground bath/shower house is great. Would have given a higher rating but the roads in both campgrounds are in awful shape with potholes. Trees hanging low and need to be trimmed back. They need to realize that rigs are higher these days and people don't appreciate tearing things off the roof and scratching sidewalls. Non-campers should not be allowed to drive through the campground. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Not all spots are perfectly level, but with a few blocks we got our RV leveled fine. Wonderful wide sites, gravel pads, and good electric. There is no water at each site, but many places where jugs can be filled. Restrooms were modern and quite clean. Great hiking on maintained trails. Two campgrounds: White Fox is good for larger RVs, more open, and easier to navigate. Big Island is tighter, very wooded, sites seem smaller/cramped, but great for a popup or tent. Good firewood $5 at ranger station. Good Verizon 4G signal in White Fox (likely from Albert Lea) and AT&T cell phone had some service too. A very nice place to come! We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This was a lovely park in southern Minnesota. We stayed five nights so we bought the MNSP annual pass of $25.00. The rate reflects $23 for the site and $5.00/day for the entrance fee. There are kayaks and canoes available for rent. The sites are large. We stayed in the White Fox campground, which is closer to the entrance and more open. The staff was super and very accommodating. The bathrooms were always clean and showers were in individual locked rooms, which is always nice. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a lovely park. We stayed in a large, wooded site (electricity only) by the lake. We enjoyed the many hiking (dog-friendly) trails around the park. BUT we were surprised by the total price. Besides the $23 campground fee, we were charged a whopping $8.50 for making the reservation online. And then an additional $5 daily use permit when we checked in. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here while traveling through MN. The lady running the office was incredibly friendly and pleasant. The rate we paid, $22 + 4.68 was for non-residents. We had intended on staying on the island itself, but the lady wanted us of the massive mosquito population, and recommended the new one. It was very nice, bathroom/shower rooms were big and clean. Spaces were nices and large. Loved the park. If we ever travel through again, we would definitely stay here. But bring the bug spray! We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This is another great Minnesota State Park Campground. The spaces are larger then most other camps. I enjoyed all of the different wild flowers. The sites are easy to back into, and pretty level. I will be staying here again. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
