This is an older park with lovely trees, big sites, and lots of grass. The interior roads are narrow enough that you have to keep your concentration up, but they are doable.
We have been here 4 times and never been disappointed. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but it is close to the Renaisance Faire, our reason for visiting. They also have a huge indoor pool that is even heated, a big plus for the family we were camping with. Nice playground too. The Internet was actually usable most of the time! - UTTransplant
Jul 2016 - $34.00
Very pleasant staff, both in office and throughout the grounds. Close to Minneapolis, and really has as many sites packed into the acreage as possible. The sites are a bit close, but the location served our needs for the short stay. Overall a pleasant experience. - jwlbal
Jun 2016 - $40.00
Nice office staff, stay only if you can get one of the deluxe sites, they are very nice. Our site was very small and could not believe they called it a pull thru. Sites are packed together on any piece of ground there. Okay for a night or two if you want to visit the Mall Of America. No cable and it`s hit or miss on getting TV . - ottosprings
Jun 2016 - $30.00
The park is not bad, but I think it is overpriced for what is provided. Rate is the average for our stay, including the PA discount. No channels on the antenna, no cell service and no wifi in the campground. Wifi was available at the office, but the office is not that close to the sites. I hate it when parks advertise wifi, but are not specific about where it is available. I think being in the valley is what prevents antenna tv and cell service. The park is very quiet. Vast majority of campers appear to be seasonal. Sites are back ins. Electric hookup is the old fuse type panel. I hate plugging in and not being able to turn the power off before inserting the plug. Water hookup was a weird straight up vertical connection. People are friendly. No fenced dog run, but plenty of walking spaces available. Appeared everyone picked up after their pets. That was good to see. If you want to see Minneapolis, it is an hour away. If I had my own sat tv and hotspot, I would rate this place a 5. Regardless, I would not stay here again. I think it is too expensive for what you get and the rural location. If you're looking for a quiet place and don't care about tv, wifi or cell service, you might like it here. - TH travelers
Sep 2014 - $27.00
New owners now have the campground, purchased it a little over a year ago. Very gracious hosts who provided all the info we needed of the local area. Nice peaceful campground situated in a small valley and surrounded by some very old trees. Would recommend this site if you are in the Le Sueur area. - neilmcb2002
Aug 2014 - $11.00
Rate based on Escapees discount - got two nights for $22 total! Sites pretty level, quiet, beautiful trees, plenty of room. Limited services might be just the overnighters. Maybe seasonal get more amenities. Not sure how previous reviewer got sewer and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is available only in office or right outside. Practically no cell service. Dump station available. Men's bathroom and shower clean and very acceptable. Very pleasant staff. Not much to do outside park but Minneapolis is about 50 minutes away. High rating based on the terrific price. - Wheelbarrows
Apr 2017 - $21.00
Rate reflects the April weekly rate. One of the only parks open this time of the year in the Twin Cities area. We were certainly not disappointed! Very reasonable weekly rate, here is a discount available on the daily rate with AAA or FMCA. Very clean park overall and well maintained. Utilities worked great. Had clear satellite TV reception, good Verizon (7.75mps down) & AT&T (9.82mps down) Data connections, never tried park wi-fi. Free shuttle to casino, and fitness center. Very friendly and helpful staff. The only thing missing is a dog park, but there is plenty of places to walk along sidewalks. Will definitely stay here again! - dmkimm
Dec 2016 - $30.00
Open for the Winter! Surprising number staying the winter judging from the pink styrofoam and hay bales around the motorhomes and fifth wheels. Store is stocked and staffed, gas pumps on site and complimentary jump-started motorhome at minus 10 degrees. - NanciRV
Aug 2016 - $40.00
Simply one of the nicest parks we've stayed in in the 3 years of travel. This is adjoining, and owned/managed by, the Casino here.
The park is about a quarter mile from the Casino and thus no noise/traffic issues. Spaces are large, level concrete arranged so that you pull through and your immediate neighbor pulls in the opposite way. On a raised concrete area is your own modern pedestal with all hook-ups. The neighbors is on the same, just down from yours.
Each is separated by a large, luscious and meticulously maintained grass area with a BBQ, fire ring and table. Trees are mature and well spaced.
The management is super friendly and helpful. The store area has a good supply stock.
We definitely will stay here again if in the area. - TPDBOB8687
Sep 2012 - $34.00
From the pictures and description on the website, we had high hopes for this campground. Upon arrival, we were put in a campsite where the hookups for the water and electric were broken. So we had to move to a different site, after we had already unhooked and setup. The part of the campsite closest to the river resembles a gypsy camp. There are various makeshift tents constructed of tarps and chicken wire. There are loose dogs running around. Broken down cars covered with tarps. The bathrooms and showers are infested with spiders. The stall doors have so much rust on them that the bottoms are falling off. The toilet paper was always empty in a least one of the stalls. In the stalls that did have paper, the toilets were plugged. The pool looked as if it had not been cleaned for a very long time. There were cars racing in and out of the campground at all hours of the day and night. I would not recommend this campground to anyone, let alone campers with small children, as they would not be safe. It's really unfortunate that this campground is not properly maintained, as it could be quite beautiful and it is in a superb location. Needless to say, my family and I will not be staying at Shakopee RV park again. - MNCampingFamily
Aug 2011 - $12.00
Everything was subpar. Starting with being quoted three different rates for camping by an employee, to being told conflicting information as to sites available. Our second day we had to move to a new site due to our campsite being used as a bike ramp and social drinking area. We were told we would have electric, but there was no access from the tent areas. Loose dogs were in and out of our campsite: leaving waste in our site the owner did not attend to. The park seemed to think the only issue was noise of dogs but we had issues with the shower house water temperatures being too hot or lukewarm, the pool was not being heated, the bathroom and shower house doors did not always shut or lock due to rust. We were so dissatisfied we chose another campground to go to. The owner was unpleasant and tried to change our nightly rate to say "we owed him" when his sign on the wall said "two persons/1 tent= $300/month." We stayed a month, were okay with paying for the month but wanted the $300 back for the month we weren't staying. He tried to tell us that you couldn't take apart the payment to get a refund at all for canceling. Then at the mention of a lawyer and the Better Business Bureau, he handed me two hundred and said, "There, a good compromise, look forward to having you back next year." Seriously? There are many other campgrounds in the area. I have found many nicer and more professionally run choices. I will not be staying here again. - gypsysojourner
Jul 2011 - $40.00
When we arrived, the entry area was so full of vehicles, you couldn't pull an RV in there. So we parked the RV at the nearby restaurant. After running the gauntlet of smokers outside the office door, we were told our site wasn't available, but they would give us a different site (with sewer) at no extra charge. A "really nice" site. Not very welcoming or friendly. The road to the site was horribly pot-holed. The roads are very narrow, and one parked RV had his awning out into the road. The site was extremely unlevel and muddy. When we got to the site, we saw why our original one wasn't available; 75% of the sites are flooded! It's on the Minnesota river, and it was apparent that most of the sites had been flooded at one point. There was very little gravel to park on and very little "grass" to walk on. Parking the towed vehicle was a challenge. While we were here it rained even more, and the water got to within 10 or 15 feet of our rig. This reservation was made in April, and no attempt was made to contact us to let us know the situation at the campground, nor was anything said at the time of checkin. Overall, what sites were available were very narrow, very run down looking, very damp due to the heavy tree cover. We would not stay here again. There are other options within the Minneapolis/St Paul area. - cobragt23
May 2015 - $15.00
3rd time I've stayed here. Mosquitoes are ferocious in June, but that's typical for Minnesota. Previous review is spot on. It's a convenient, clean, quiet, nice place to stay overnight. Watch the speed bumps! - Corno1
Jul 2014 - $15.00
This is a Municipal Park located on Buffalo Creek on the south side of town. No Reservations. Motorhomes/Trailers pull into a sand and grass parking area. Sites are not marked, campers pull in and set up. Services are Basic. Dry camping with electricity. Sites are Electric only. One 50 amp service, four 30 amp receptacles. No fresh water fill. Dump station costs $4. Park has a challenging 18 hole Disc Golf Course, swimming pool with water slides, softball diamonds, baseball park, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, wild animal zoo, and bicycle paths. The only amenity that has a fee is the swimming pool. The bicycle path leads out of the park and continues for 6 miles to the town of Plato. This park has many other activities (music in the park, civic festivals, etc.). Park is quiet at night and is frequently patrolled by the local police. Some highway and train noise, but not enough to be objectionable. Lots of room for kids to run. I have stayed at this park the last 5 or 6 years, and have always had a pleasant experience. - J. Downer
May 2017 - $46.00
Nice park, close to Minneapolis. We stayed in Site 31 (Pull-Through) and it was satisfactory but tight to other sites. All sites are gravel so it's easy to track in the dirt when wet. - N8MD
Aug 2016 - $47.00
Sites are on the small side for the price. Especially sites 7 and 8. Otherwise I think previous reviews are correct. - zDale
Jul 2016 - $40.00
We needed a place to camp in Minneapolis over July 4, and (of course) every campground was full. Town & Country put us on a waiting list, and called a few days later to tell us they had a site for us. It was a newly created full service site in the corner between the laundry room and the pool. The campground was full and hopping with many, many families. We arrived just after the July 4 Bicycle Parade. The campground really emptied after the weekend. The staff were so helpful and great to work with. It was a nice place to stay! - ShoreXplorers
Sep 2015 - $25.00
This is a beautiful, grassy county park on Shields Lake. There are two docks for fishing and a place to launch your boat nearby. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. There are no sewer hookups, but there is a convenient dump. The bathrooms and showers are very clean. They have the best WiFi. Thesignal never failed and we were on the far end of the park. Several antenna TV stations come in well. Less than an hour to the Twin Cities so great place to stay while visiting family and friends. - Jan and Larry
Jun 2016 - $25.00
This a small, quite, family friendly campground. Easy access for kayaks on Shields lake. Fishing didn't turn out well for us; maybe our fault. Nice, short hiking trail. Would definitely stay there again. - Linda V
