This is a city campground. The location along the Chippewa River is very scenic. There are two hiking trails. One trail is paved and wanders past a butterfly garden. The other trail is a dirt trail and follows the river. There is a golf course and a city swimming pool on the other side of the river. Both are within walking distance. The campground has a nice playground. The city website advertises an old schoolhouse which is open to the public. I'm not sure what hours it's open. We were there on a summer weekend and it never opened. There is also a mini golf course in the campground. The mini golf course was recently renovated, but it is obvious that no one does any daily maintenance. There was a lot of debris (rocks, sand, leaves) on the "greens" which made it difficult to play. On the plus side, the golf is free. There are host campers onsite. They were very friendly and helpful. The campsites were level and many had mature shade trees. The roads are paved. There is a train track across the street. At first, we were somewhat concerned by this. Fortunately, the next crossing is a ways down the road, so the whistle was not too loud. The biggest negative was the bathroom. There is only one shower house and it's located near the entrance. The tent sites are in the back of the campground. Tent campers have a long run to the bathroom. The shower house is strange. Instead of the traditional men's and women's sides, there are four or five individual rooms. Some are designated for men and some are for women. Some of the rooms have showers and some do not. The bathrooms were very old and in need of updating, but they were clean. We would camp here again. We camped at Ambush Park in a Travel Trailer.
